Hi Pouchie, I realize we don't have to pay for the open bar and that beer and wine are included. However, we have now pulled out of renting the disco and are going to be having our dinner and reception at the Plantation 7-11 pm (and having the DJ for the four hours). I know my guests would like to have hard liquour. I would have preferred to only have the open bar from 9-11 pm, but I believe the $10 pp applies to the entire four hours. Correct me if I'm wrong please! I myself, would personally be satisfied with just the beer and wine!
  3. Hello, Thanks for the great response girls! I knew I could count on you!! My wedding is at 4:30 pm, and the dinner at the Plantation starts at 7-9. If I cancel the disco (which I already had the DJ hired for), and moved the reception to the Plantation, I think that would solve all my problems. I'm not really sure I would like to pay $10 pp for the open bar though. That is kind of stretching the budget. Approximately $1800 for four hours including DJ, open bar, and rental of Plantation. Does that sound right? I don't have much time to decide! The wedding is in less than three months!

  5. Hi Ladies, I have rented the disco for two hours following my dinner at the Plantation Restaurant. However, after reading Jerzzygirl's post about it not having very much seating...I am concerned. I was hoping we would be able to have the bride and groom's first dance, make some speeches, etc. However, I don't want 50 guests standing for 2 hours. Do you think it would be better to rent the Plantation for another couple of hours? Can we hire the DJ for the Plantation? We are getting married on January 17th, which is a Thursday so the beach party is out. What are the rest of you doing? I would really appreciate any input!
  6. I'm getting married January 17th, and will be there from January 12th-26th...we just booked our honeymoon at the Sandals Whitehouse and I'm sooo excited! 7. YAAAY! I was so excited to read your review. That's great that everything worked out, and that Chandlyn was helpful! I can't wait to see your pictures!
  8. YAY!! I know you are already sitting on the beach in the hot sun sipping a delicious rum cocktail. Have a wonderful time and make sure to stop and take it all in! Have a great time and relax!!
  9. Hey guys! I just wanted to share my weight loss story...hopefully it will help you out a bit. I decided I needed to lose weight when I became engaged. I don't know about you all, but when I entered this relationship I looked pretty good! But I became too comfortable, and my FH is an amazing cook. He is Pakistani and we eat ALOT of curry, which includes much rice and potatoes. Needless to say, I packed on a good 25 pounds. Since March 2007, I have lost approximately 27 pounds. For me, it all comes down to portions. In the morning, I will have a cup of cereal with skim milk. For lunch, a Lean Cuisine (because it's quick and easy) with a V8 juice or salad. Most importantly, for dinner I will use a side plate to eat off of. This keeps my portions in check. I can fill it up as much as I want, but that is all I can eat. I try to keep my calories at about 1200 per day. It has worked wonders!! As for exercise, I hate it! But I have an elliptical and I try to exercise a minimum of three days a week for at least 20 minutes. I decided I didn't want to push myself, and then end up quitting. In the end a little exercise is better than no exercise at all! And I have it set up in front of the TV in the guest room...I need the stimulation Hope this helps a bit! Cherie

That's what I would do. How do they know the value of your wedding supplies? I don't think they would hold you back because they don't believe you! I think customs are more concerned about larger items than what you have!!
  11. I guess we'll just have to follow the issue in the Jamaica Gleaner. How did you happen upon the article? My travel agent is sending it off to the 'sales people' and looking into it for me; hopefully everything will be ok. I'll keep you posted on what I find out. By the way Mo, did you receive my email that I sent you last week enquiring about your itinerary booklet? If you didn't mind, I was interested in obtaining a copy and of course paying for shipping. Thanks, Cherie

I would LOVE to stay at the Sandals Negril or Sandals Whitehouse but the prices we are being quoted for them will just really break the bank. The Royal Caribbean is affordable, and the reviews for it sound like it is newer and nicer than Sandals Montego Bay. Sooooo... at least we can stay at a decent Sandals and hopefully see Negril as well! However, I am going to look at some of the other resorts you ladies suggested too to see if they could possibly be worked into the budget! Thanks, I will keep you posted! Hey jmhein, We will be staying at the Sandals Whitehouse for one week after our stay at the ROR for our wedding. My TA seemed to have pretty decent prices. I could get her information to you if you like. Cherie
  13. I'm hoping NEPA won't shut down the resort for any amount of time...my wedding is in 3 1/2 months!

Or how about lyrics to a Bob Marley song? He's HUGE down there. Just a few suggestions!!

  19. I just wonder at the conflicting information! It all comes from the same source (Chandlyn), unless getting it third party changed the message, or maybe I misunderstood? Thank you for the offer Lizz, I think I'll let my TA talk to Chandlyn and see what comes of it. Maybe in the near future I may take you up on your offer if things are unresolved?
  20. I'm trying to compare what other brides have been quoted and what we are quoted. For example, Chandlyn quoting my travel agent $50 per head for dinner at the Plantation Restaurant. I thought perhaps there was an additional charge due to the difference in dates, as I knew there was an included menu (thanks Lizz!!). I wasn't sure and just want to be knowledgeable about what I should and shouldn't be paying for!! Also, there seems to be a new price list out for renting the disco for 2008? Does anyone know what the cost per hour? Thanks! ps. My travel agent sent me a huge selection of the bouquets available...would anyone need this?
  21. Hi everyone, but can I ask a quick question? Sorry it's off topic! Has anyone noticed when booking the same venues, and entertainment as others that the price quoted varies? For example, bookings in January vs. a bride getting married in May (possibly due to peak season)? Thanks for any input! Cherie

It makes me wish I had gone with a stronger color rather than light blue! Too late now! I tried to find my dress again, as it's been awhile since I looked but neither my wedding dress or BM dresses are anywhere to be found. I guess I'll just have to post the real pictures in January!
