  1. Agreed: I might be in, but can also get them in Chinatown for about $3 each. If you can get them for less than this (I believe the last order was under $3), I'd be in for somewhere around 20-30. Cheers!
  2. FYI, from Expedia.com (thought was was particularly applicable to people on here!): New United Airlines baggage policy United’s new checked bag policy applies to tickets purchased on or after Feb. 4, 2008, for travel beginning on May 5, 2008. Customers who purchase nonrefundable domestic economy tickets may check one bag for free and a second bag for a $25 service fee. Oversized bags or those weighing more than 50 lbs. now cost $100 per bag. Items that require special handling also have new prices. This new checked bag policy also applies to travel beginning within the U.S. and to/from Canada, San Juan, Puerto Rico, and St. Thomas. For customers who have at least Premier status in Mileage Plus or Silver status with Star Alliance, there are no changes to the number of bags they can check for free. For international flights (except Canada), checking a second bag will continue to be free and the cost to check more bags or bags that are overweight or need special handling varies by destination. For more information, please visit united.com/baggage.
  3. I agree--mokume rings are gorgeous, but they definitely tend to be pricier. If you're looking for more unusual or artistic rings, we've found the Clay Pot ( The Clay Pot) in Brooklyn, NY to be incredibly helpful. They have a really cool selection of different rings, don't work on commission, and most of their stuff comes from individual designers. They'll communicate over email or phone, and have been really great to work with. As for having other jewelers copy a ring, it can be less expensive. But with rings like these, from unique designers, it doesn't really make as much sense. They're not as easy to duplicate, so will end up costing almost as much while not providing the benefit to the person who designed the ring. (I'm all about supporting individual artisans when I can!)

  5. Thanks, Lizzie. Can't wait to see more pics, as I'm currently struggling to figure out how we want to set the place up come June. Just looking at the pics, though (pretty, pretty pretty!!!), is enough to get us all kinds of excited!

  7. For anyone interested in the "teacher tote" from these guys (same site, Promotional tote bags custom sizes and styles from cheap totes ) -- the natural color canvas tote with contrasting straps--I can now vouch for it. I just went to a conference, and they gave us these totes. Since the website description is lacking, just thought I'd provide couple more specifics: They're good quality cotton canvas, thick, with a snap closure on top and the side pocket is nice and big.
  8. This is all great, but you're making me feel really remiss in my planning! Morgan, you and I have the same date, but I still have no idea how many bags I need to make (our RSVP date is March 15) and thus can't really get started in earnest until we know how many people are coming. eep!
  9. I'd be in for this, too, if you're still taking numbers. I'd probably need between 25 and 30. (I can narrow it down for you before you make the exact order.) -L
  10. Yay! We're staying in Akumal, working with Turtle Bay for our wedding cupcakes and "morning after" brunch, and these pics are just getting me more excited to get there, already! But Jay, I'm curious: I could pick out just about every location you shot, except for one. Where is that wall of candles?!
  11. I agree, love the first pair. Man, wish I knew how to make those!! Where did you get all your supplies?

Yeah...we plugged it in and a $10 fare there, $40 fare home, came out to about $150 with taxes/fees. Those are automatically about $50 each way, varying slightly depending on which airport in the US you fly in and out of. But still, $150 for a round-trip, international ticket is still pretty good. 13. For those of you lucky enough to live in the Austin, TX area, a low-cost airline just started daily flights from Austin to Cancun for as low as $10 each way. VivaAerobus - La aerolnea de bajo costo de Mxico - Vuelos, Hoteles, Renta de autos Think RyanAir, Mexican style! At the very least, certainly worth checking out.
  14. We aren't getting married there (wanted to be on the mainland so it would be easy to take day trips to all the places we wanted to go!), but I did a lot of research before deciding. I've heard nothing but raves about Papillon, and these folks seem to do some great stuff, too: Weddings Isla Mujeres As for settings, we weren't looking all inclusive, so I can't help you there. But I think, far and away, my first choice for the ceremony and party would have been Na Balam. I'd definitely check it out: Everything about the place just seems elegant and beautiful.
  15. Morgan, I'm totally late to this bandwagon, but I'd love some if you still have any left unspoken for! Thanks! -L
  16. Just discovered this little gem on a blog: $3.99 for a template to create these adorable little boxes: Just thought they were too cute not to pass on! (And super easy to make and transport!) They could be used for favors, but you can upsize them and put them next to your cake or cupcakes and allow guests to take their dessert back to their hotel room. Available from A Little Hut.

I'm interested in doing this, too...for many of the same reasons you did: age range of our guests. Did you just book through Grayline's website for all your guests, or were you able to arrange for a private excursion?

We aren't staying at an AI (so no need to keep drinks cold), but our hotel has huge filtered water dispensers in every room. If we gave people bottles to fill every day, they wouldn't have to buy bottled water everywhere we go! Thanks!!

Might be worth it to PM Jenetta (JPMO) to see if she has any photos she can send you. =)
  21. Also, I'm pretty sure Matt and Sol didn't have an arch or chuppah. (Link to the thread with their pics: http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t14377) Of course, they did have the added benefit of Mayan warriors. One thing you might think about doing is delineating the space with tiki torches, if your resort offers them? Maybe? Also, I'm pretty sure someone on here (Jenetta) made a chuppah out of PVC piping. Ahah! Just found the link: http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t1323 Might be worth it to check with her...

  23. We invited tons of his family (his parents are each one of six siblings!) but only a few on my side; my friends more than make up the difference. =) Quite of few of his aunts and uncles can't go, which we expected, so I think that we're actually going to be something like 80% friends:20% family. Maybe a total of about 60 guests? I've always said that our friends ARE our family, and they're totally proving us right. It's what we want, really. All the people we love more than anything in the world, and they're all going to be in one place, with nothing to do other than relax, for days on end. Whee!!!!
  24. Jay, I'm looking forward to seeing the Akumal wedding, as that's where all our family and friends will be staying when we go down for our wedding in June! (Welcome dinner there, too, but wedding itself in Tulum.) Can't wait to see more!!
  25. Hmm, when I was there in 2006 (September), we found a great little taco joint--nothing fancy, just good food and cold beer--right where the road to Coba has a turn off for the nearby Club Med Villas Arquelogicas. If you decide not to bring snacks, or don't bring enough , the restaurant is right outside the hotel's walls.
