I'm a single parent, too - both my son and daughter live with me and visit there dad every other weekend, etc. We also have joint custody - but you still have to get his permission to take them out of the country. Or at least to get them a passport --- do they already have one? He had to fill out an affidavit granting consent to them obtaining passport - the only other option was for him to physically be at the passport office when we applied. I agree with the advice you've gotten from the other girls - be up front with friends and family - they will understand how important it is to have your daughter there. Would you best friend be willing to help with this? -
BM attire opinions needed

I agree ... having them in similar dresses, yet different from your BM dresses would be nice. Especially if you can find something fairly reasonable that they can wear again!!! (That's ALWAYS appreciated!!!). It doesn't even necessarily need to be the same dress --- maybe just the same color. The parasols would be nice if you're planning to have pics at your AHR with them ... -

Jose wants a tres leches cake and I'm trying to shop around to find something cheaper than what the Westin wants to charge, so I'm thinking about having my FMIL email Deena for a quote (since everybody seems to give her lower quotes than they give me)... Wedding cake is $305 **WEDDING CAKE: Rustic (uniced) tiers to be separated by 'branch' pillars*, decorated with artificial and real citrus leaves and a variety of citrus fruits, and completed with some natural flowers (provided by Weddings in Paradise). Top tier: 6" Round (serves 12), Lemon Cake with Lemon Curd Filling Bottom tier: 9" Round (serves 32), Lemon Cake with Lemon Curd Filling = Total Servings = 44 Price = $280 US Strawberry purée (sauce) to serve with cake = $25 USD * Please note that the custom-made pillars would be "on loan" for this event, and we would appreciate receiving them back in original condition as soon as possible after the wedding. Groom's Cake is $91 Chocolate Fudge Cake with Chocolate Mousse filling and Dark Chocolate Ganache outside, the price would be $85. Chocolate dipped/drizzled strawberries are (strictly upon availability of good fresh strawberries) $2 each, depending on how many they'd like. Price reflects three stawberry’s on top/center. REMEMBER --- I'm sure there is a fee tacked on to this price since it is all done through my WC. For us it was worth cutting one check to one person and having her handle all the communication, etc. We thought about having the tres leches as well (because it is my FAVORITE) ... both the WC and Deena cautioned against it since it tends to get soggy and leak if it is out too long ... but, I'm sure the Westin could refrigerate it and wait to bring it out until the cake cutting! Oh - and I know the wedding sounds a little odd ... but I've seen a picture of the "rustic" cake w/ the branch pillars, only it was with apples because it was an apple rum spice cake for a fall wedding - I LOVED it, but wasn't too keen on the apple flavor ... Deena suggested the lemon version for spring. Have your FMIL email Deena directly at the link above ... she might get better pricing!

Jill's cake was amazing and she had like 5 different flavors! Another bride that I know told me that her guests told her it was the best wedding cake they'd ever tasted --- she said they still talk about it! (Tracey's was a fall wedding and they had an apple spice cake with this vanilla rum sauce that you poured on it!). Another perk - Deena is super-sweet - she was super-nice in helping me with all my indecisiveness. Here's the contact info that I have for her: Mrs. Deena Abdiano - [email protected] The website is: Sweet Dreams Good luck!

Hooray!!! Congratulations Tami and Melissa!

Congratulations to both of you! I'm sending warm thoughts and wishing you all the best!!!

Sorry girls - I'm not sure who the vendor is that the WC uses ... and I've been told they don't share their vendor list (I've asked before on a different item and that was her answer --- which I guess is understandable!). Part of the price difference may be the fact that we just want to leave from the reception, ride around about 30 minutes, and then go back to the hotel (which is all pretty close to the plaza in San Jose). I'll let you know if I find any other quotes!

About to blow a gasket. Priest gave away our ceremony time.
coreyphil replied to Maura's topic in Destination Wedding in Cabo
I'm sorry, but I had to laugh at Fr. Jack's email! Are you kidding me? Hooray for FMIL! She's definitely one to have on your side! Maybe we need to send you reminders every other day from now until August to call or email the secretary just to "confirm"? Seriously - I'm glad things are working out! -

Does your face get Red when drinking?
coreyphil replied to angitalia23's topic in Beauty, Exercise, Diet
I definitely get the "asian glow" --- in college my other asian friends claimed that taking tagamet or pepcid seems to help ... I'm not sure why ... and, I can't say that I really remember it helping or not! And, I tried to experiment with different types of alcohol, too. (My friends would say, "Oh, it must be the hops in beer, try wine. Oh it must be the tannins in wine, try vodka. and on, and on ...). I pretty much flush with everything! It's so bad that you can even tell I've been drinking in black and white pictures! As for the exercising Ms. Glenda --- I'm not sure about that one! -
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TAMMY!!! Have a wonderful time at the concert! I hope your day is special and the year is the best one yet ...

Your priest's suggestion sounds like a perfect one. I have a hard time understanding the "technicalities" of the Catholic faith sometimes, but I completely understand why it is so important to you and Jose (and your family). You'll be in my prayers Maura ... I agree with Jaime, it will work out! -
Maura - I can't answer the upgrade questions --- but - we're flying American down on free tickets, too (coach); and, the American Group Reservations rep told me that I will definitely be able to put my dress in the closet. I called because the lady at the dress shop recommended calling ahead and letting them know that I'd be traveling with my wedding dress. The airline lady said that it would be no problem. She said they are always really excited to have brides ... and, if depending on your layover in dallas ... FI and I could always come and take you two out for a drink! (if the layover is short, we'll just have to wait until the next time we're in chi-town) ...

Oh no Maura!!! I can't believe this ... I'm so sorry! I don't even know what to say. You have every right to be furious! OK - here's my knee-jerk thoughts ... if you do decide to have the ceremony at the hotel, you have already thought through the pros --- no transportation, no lost time with Bradley, etc. --- so there are some positives. It sounds like you priest in Chicago is very nice (or at least super-responsive!) - after explaining the situation to him, would you be able to have a smaller ceremony there? I'm not Catholic, but FI is ... and we had to have lots of talks about having my friend (a Methodist minister) officiate at our ceremony. I know that it is really, really important in the Catholic faith to have the ceremony be Catholic ... On the other hand ... should we start making LOTS of fans now? If I remember correctly, the ceremony can be rather long ... so, I would say if you go with 4:30, then I think that having fans and cold drinks for the bus ride back will keep your guests happy! Is your FI ok with not having a Catholic ceremony? Or, can you get a Catholic priest to come to the hotel? -
Other message boards ... not so nice
coreyphil replied to AlmostMrsForbes's topic in Just venting or funnies
I've never been on a forum before, so this was a first ... so I'm spoiled --- everyone has always been SO nice --- friendly and supportive! I loved the idea of sharing great information and great ideas! Over the last few months I get so excited whenever someone hits another big step ... picking invites, their dress, leaving for their big day ... it's like having a bunch of sisters! Ditto - Glenda, your new siggy pic is so cute --- it cracked me up because when I drink I get super-rosy cheeks, too! And, Jaime --- I love that picture of you and martin! It was one of my favorites ... It is just so sweet, you can just see how much he loves you!
