  1. we registered about a week after we got engaged just because it's fun. if you're having an engagement party then definately do it soon. if you aren't expecting gifts until the bridal shower then you have a lot of time.
  2. i think there should be a thread of all of the acronyms (right word?) we use on this board. i've been around a few months now and i still have trouble deciphering what the posts say sometimes!
  3. a coworker of mine was married in august in st. lucia and she just changed her name two weeks ago... you should be fine!

  5. i'm getting married at the yucatan in july. we liked it for quite a few reasons: it was just renovated, it more lush than some of the other resorts in playa del carmen, it's very close to town, it's not a highrise complex- everything is low to the ground, there are a lot of really decent reviews on tripadvisor and we really like riu resorts. but most importantly, we felt it was the best option while still keeping a budget in mind for our guests. i've only had to get in touch with the wedding coordinator twice so far and she's been quick to respond both times. i have a couple pictures of the ceremony sites and i also have all of the wedding add ons. pm me if you'd like me to send them.
  6. for the philly brides- i just looked on pierre and carlo's website (in the bellevue) and their site says that it starts at $25.. my sister works there so i'll ask her what the deal is.

  8. we're also having that mid-range of 30-35 people... for OOT bags, i'm just buying canvas tote bags from oriental trading and i'll use an iron on. we bought beach towels on mega clearance from marshall's. they were $3 a piece. we have sunscreen from target's travel section. i plan on buying bug spray from the dollar store. i bought magnetic picture frames from target for 25 cents a piece. i also got coconut shell candles for $1 a piece from target. we're making cds for everyone of all our songs with a customized cd insert that we're just printing ourselves. we'd also like to buy tee shirts but that's a splurge we may not be able to do. we'll also print out maps and mexico information to put in there. for the ceremony i'm just buying fake petals.. i've found a ton of sites that sell them for cheap so i'm not worrying about that. i don't think i'm going to bother with chair covers and ribbons. i'm assuming they aren't metal folding chairs.. haha. i think they are just brown wood, which i am fine with. i'm getting bm flowers, boutenieres, and mothers corsages but only because FI's brother wants to pay for them. for photography, we don't really care that much. we're getting the basic package, and then we get 12 free pics with our wedding package. my MOH's boyfriend is a photography major in college so he'll be taking pictures through out the night. plus, with 35 people there, we'll have more pictures than we know what to do with. riu has a beach party on friday nights so that's my reception. i need this wedding to be cheap, but i don't want it to look cheap.. it's hard to balance those two things...
  9. does anyone know if ALL riu resorts host a friday night beach party? i keep hearing about this and i'm really excited since my wedding is on a friday... but i'm just wondering if it's hotel specific?
  10. you are all so right... it just seems totally crazy to try and do this. don't get me wrong, i would love to go to a traditional irish wedding in ireland because to me, that's an amazing experience... but my own wedding is more important! still feel a tad guilty tho.
  11. so the fiance and i are in a bit of a pickle. friends of ours that we invited to our DW in mexico have just finished planning a destination wedding of their own. we're getting married in july, and two months before that they are getting married in northern ireland (where she's from) in may. we would absolutely love to go and are going to try as hard as we possibly can, but we just don't kow if it's feasible! we're paying for our wedding on our own. i'm only 23 and FI is 24 so we certainly don't make as much money as our friends (they're 30 and he's an engineer), our dollar is so crappy right now and not only that, may is going to be pretty hectic for us with our own wedding coming up. they have very adamantly talked about how excited they are for our wedding and they can't wait... but we just don't know if we can go to theirs!! is it terrible to decline someone else's destination wedding??
  12. victoria's secret is having a killer sale on bathing suits right now- as low as $6.99! i bought 3 and it came to $40 including shipping! i also made sure to buy a white bathing suit to wear while i'm lounging around by the pool the morning of the wedding.

Also i was at Michaels Craft Store and cannot find the corner cutters...i think maybe because i don't know exactly what im looking for? Would someone be able to post a picture of their actual corner cutter? So i can have a better reference? I woudl really appreciate it...also i guess if anyone has one they would like to sell to me? Maybe that is a possibility if you are done with it? lol....not sure how they will work? Where i am goign to get them printed they will cut them out but just straight edges along the dotted line but they can't do edges? Any help/suggestions for me? thanks so much i used regular card stock in the "natural" shade. i thought the white gave too much contrast which i didn't like. my colors were orange and green. i found my corner cutters at target for $1! it was in the stationary/scrapbooking section. i had mine printed at kinko's and cut each one myself. it was tedious but i didn't want to pay to have them cut. i bought a nice fiskar's paper cutter and a good pair of shears and it was fine. here's an picture of my finished product:
  16. Got my dress! I wanted something very light, and simple and elegant. We're getting married in July so it's going to be very hot. Yay!

The Body Klinic
  18. wow that is crazy. sounds like you didn't let it ruin your time atleast!
  19. i love the idea of not having to worry about putting mascara on while i'm hanging around the beach for 2 weeks... how much did it cost?
  20. we booked a junior suite, but with our package we get an upgrade. has anyone actually been given this upgrade upon arrival? it would be nice to receive, but i guess i'm not too concerned.
