  1. How would one say this? Please join us at XX Resort in Riviera Maya Please join us at XX Resort on Riviera Maya Please join us at XX Resort in the Riviera Maya Please join us at XX Resort on the Riviera Maya Our wedding in...same deal, see why I need the correct article? You say in California, on the West Coast, etc., so I'm kinda confused, as in sounds better but on might be correct? Sorry if this is a stupid question, just want to be correct before I send out STD/Website.
  2. PLEASE SHARE PHOTOS - post them when you're there if you can! And please go swimming in the ocean and let me know how that is, as it is one of my main concerns! And let me know what the food/drink situation is ON the beach, if you can! My other concern is location compared with all the sites of Riviera Maya (cenotes, etc.), so if you go anywhere to snorkel or visit cenotes, etc., can you tell me how you managed to get there and price? Also, please let me know if there are any outdoor bar/lounge areas besides the lobby! When are you going? I'm trying to decide today or tomorrow btwn there and Barcelo Maya Palace for my guests for May '08, although I'm freaking and thinking a non-AI could be a better choice. But the non-AIs are more than this place!
  3. I was thinking of having all my guests stay there for my wedding in May '08, although the wedding will be at Al Cielo, off property. I'm debating btwn there and Barcelo Maya Palace - the Barcelo's ocean area is calmer and clearer like the Caribbean, and it is close to my wedding site and sites such as Tulum, but Princess is SO much cheaper! I'm hoping the kinks will be worked out by then. Here are current photos: Picasa Web Albums - Mike - grand sunset ... Other people on the tripadvisor forums posted more mixed reviews - they said beautiful property, good food, nice pools, nice rooms, but lacking all the necessary amenities as of yet, yet somehow it came of a tiny bit more positive than the one guy who posted a review.
  4. I've been to both - Maui in November, and Kauai in February. This is my experience: Maui is beautiful. It is truly a tropical island. You don't have to stay in the tourist strip (or you can for part of the time since all the fancy hotels are there), as there are places further up that side of the island that seem less touristy - and although it is touristy, I went to beaches where there were NO people (find the lava trail...), plenty of opportunities for skinny dipping and the like, and the rainbows and water were gorgeous. Also, the road to Hana was beautiful, the bamboo rainforest was amazing, and that whole part of the island is really cute. I don't know if I just went during off season or what, but it did not seem crowded anywhere. Kauai is beautiful too, but it reminded me more of Northern California, but slightly warmer. Since I live in Southern California, this was slightly disappointing to me, but if you live elsewhere, it might not be. It was too cold for us to swim the whole time, another disappointment, so we basically did a lot of hiking. The hike that starts at the end of Hanalei where the roads ends is challenging and a blast, if you are into hiking (I am). Amazing views. You can also hike in the Grand Canyon of the Pacific - the hike we picked there was also pretty challenging, maybe that is why we didn't see anyone on it! The middle part of the island is a bit more tropical I guess - maybe I just had a negative impression b/c of the weather? I think you can go rafting there on a river. I didn't see any amazing beaches, though there was a beach in the south that seemed more swimmable, and maybe in October will be nicer. The town in the north - Hanalei, is charming and I was ready to move there - it felt like a real place to live that would be perfect for me. I met some transplants from the mainland there. I stayed near Princeville and I agree if you stay anywhere, that is where to stay there (even tho I didn't). Tough decision - but you probably won't go wrong with either! Depends on what environment you want!
  5. thankyou - ok, i'm feeling better...the textures are really what i fell for, hopefully those will show in my wedding photos when i actually get married.
  6. Thanks - I was about to do the whole photobucket thing, but you saved me! I think I'm warming up to the dress on me. I love the dress, I just wasn't sure if it was so me, you know. I had this whole idea of no strapless in my head I think, but I will get over it. I do feel like a Roman mermaid washed up on the beach (if such things exist).
  7. Not sure why they don't show up - I just entered urls after clicking the Insert Image button...
  8. Here are some photos. I'm not super photogenic... Worried it is a bit too romantic for me, although I think it is amazing, and also not sure how I feel about the strapless on me Hair up or down? If up, I think I'd go for a messy updo look, not polished.
  9. Can I attach .jpg files somehow or is the only option to put the photos somewhere online and then enter the URL?
  10. Is it normal to freak out about whether you bought the right dress or not after you bought it? I was trying to decide between 2 very different styled dresses and under pressure of the store ladies and my wedding being in 4 1/2 months, made a choice that left me freaking out the rest of the day. You only get to convey one look on your wedding day you know?
  11. Yeah the guy at Fed Ex gave me the form. Maybe I need to speak with someone else!
  12. Maybe a stupid question, but for my wedding site, they are requesting the deposit via Fed Ex, but on the fed ex forms for international fed ex, they require Tax Id number and declaration of contents for customs - which seems weird (and scary) for a check! Is this normal or am I using the wrong form? Has anyone send a Fed Ex envelope with a check in it to Mexico?
  13. Oh one more question - do they allow you to take photographs at La Soie? My mom and sis are on the east coast and it is helpful for me if I want their opinion, and some places are cool w/it, some are not.
  14. Thanks guys! La Soie is not as far away and seems to have an interesting selection of designers I haven't tried, so I'm going to try to go there this week.
  15. the stores are claiming i will be fine and that they will come in march. i hope this is true! one of the designers i'm looking at, amy michelson, is in LA, so maybe that helps? and i have appts today, thurs, and sat to look at dresses so i guess i should just make a decision after that!
  16. Thanks everyone. I'll PM SASSYGIRL and fogdog for their examples. Nespie - That is great that you were able to save $ and the environment! but for me it is more a time issue - in theory I'd love to have beautiful STDs but I'm not sure about the time. And my family would croke if I didn't have paper invites. Its the east coast NY wedding seriousness thing I guess (where I'm from originally). Anyhow, I'll figure it out! amyh - I send out evites for every little party I have and I wanted my wedding to be special. Man, maybe I'll do paper and online STDs? Galit - what you did is SO what I'll end up doing knowing me. I'm too much of an indecisive perfectionist so I either go all the way or um, just get the point across simply . Anyhow thank you all for your quick responses!
  17. Has anyone sent out virtual STDs via email? I would love to send real ones too, but I'm running out of time and feel like I need to at least send virtual ones (and maybe call the few relatives I know who don't use email). Is there a classy way to do this or is it just going to look cheesy? How did you go about it? Create and attach a .jpg file to an email? Or a .pdf file? Or did you use a 3rd party software or website service? Please lmk! I also have to scramble to set up a wedding website to include on that STD email. I saw Ann's wedding website list, but I'm wondering if anyone has a particular favorite that is extra customizable (using only your own graphics and photos)? Has anyone has gone the blog route, and if so, were you able to add an rsvp form into the blog, and if so, did you use someone else's code to add it in to the html or did the blog software easily allow you to do it? Thanks!
  18. I agree with Sharonie - I found that certain necklines and tops look better on me than others even though I might like the others better and I only learned that by trying various dresses on, so it definitely would help you decide on this one even if you don't get to try it on. You might also ask if any stores near you carry Casablanca and then ask if they could get it in, as sometimes stores will bring in dresses from other stores if they know there is interest...
  19. Nice! Are you staying in RM for your honeymoon? We're probably going elsewhere -somewhere with surfing, though maybe not right away.
  20. I think the Blue Parrot is now Playa Palms and they are renovating the rooms? Playa Palms Beach Boutique Hotel | Playa del Carmen, Riviera Maya, Mexico | Home PLEASE let me know what you think of the place, as I didn't get to see it while I was down there. Another cute little place I heard about is Petite Lafitte: Petit Lafitte Resort in Playa del Carmen presented by Turquoise Reef Group It includes breakfast and dinner I believe, but isn't an AI. It is a little further north and new this year, but with the same management as Captain Lafitte something or other than everyone seems to have loved. I have gotten the opposite pressure (towards AI), with around the same size group, and these are a couple of the places I would have considered if I wasn't pushed towards AI, but I didn't get a chance to see either, so I'd love to hear about them from you!
  21. What a weird coincidence - my FI and I are going to donate to Surfrider or Heal the Bay (similar organization that is specifically local to Southern CA) for our favors (in lieu of favors) too!
