JUSTUSTWO replied to Leia78's topic in Chit Chat Corner!
Looks like you had a great time Leia! -
Welcome back & Congrats. Thats a nice review. Thanks for the info about the PUJ airport. We're planning a trip to DR & now we know what to expect. Glad that everything worked out & you were able to have the reception that you wanted! I just clicked the link for the pics, but you didnt' say what the password was.

Glad to hear that you're having sooo much fun & that you enjoyed your shower! Can't wait to see the pics! Yummmmm...cheesesteaks! You're making my stomach growl!

I didn't book my appt until I got there. I made sure that I did it on the day that I arrived just in case they were booked, but they weren't. My MOH went there with me the day of the wedding & they were able to also do my FG's hair with no problems.

A Little (Lot) of Help Getting Started.....Please!
JUSTUSTWO replied to sportsdog2's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
Quote: Originally Posted by sportsdog2 Hi Everyone: I'm just starting to plan for my December 2009 wedding in Jamaica and could use some help. We're staying at ROR, but have not decided if it will be the ceremony site. I'd like something a little more private, but my FI is fine with ROR. I have a few questions: 1) Other than cost, how did you decide whether to have your ceremony at ROR or offsite? If we have it at ROR, we will go with the "free" package and add other items like more decorations, the steel band, a reception, etc. My other option is offsite with Almarie. I chose ROR by factoring in the costs for my guests, in addition to the good reviews that I got from other brides here at BDW about their experience. The free package for the ceremony & free reception were also important factors. 2) Can I contact Chandlyn before confirming the date to get an idea of the exact price? We have a reservation for 12/3/09, but have not confirmed it as yet. We still have the 90 days to do so. You can always email Chandlyn & give her an idea of everything that you're interested in, from the ceremony, to flowers, decorations & your reception. She should be able to give you an estimate. Just keep in mind since you're not really confirmed & your date is so far out, she may take a little longer to respond to you. You can always check out the Jamaica sub-forum & check out reviews to see if people list the costs of their packages, or for price lists. 3) Has anyone had or attended an Islamic/Muslim ceremony at ROR or anywhere in Jamaica? How difficult do you think it will be to arrange this? I haven't seen this firsthand, but I would think that it wouldn't be hard to arrange this. Just run it by Chandlyn & see what she says. You're really the one in charge of your ceremony so as long as you let her know what you would need, it should be fine. 4) When did you send out your save the date cards? Did you include all of the hotel and travel information with the cards? I'm still waiting on prices from the travel agent and did not know if I should send the cards now or wait until I have the hotel rates. The airfare rates will not be available until at least February. I sent out my STD's as soon as we had our date booked & when I received the hotel & airfare rates. I sent out a letter detailing the rates. But, if you don't have the rates yet, you could still send out the STD's so that your guests know the date & and then send out a letter later, with the travel details. Thanks for your help. If I can get going with the first few items I'll feel much better. Kim Hi Kim, I hope I helped you out a bit. -

Yup, you're absolutely right about renting the tux. What's the price diff btwn the Macy's pants & those from Jcrew? Can your friend possibly use their discount & get the Jcrew pants for the GM too?

A natural linen vs an italian chino cotton. HELP!!! Hmmm...I guess it depends on your personal preference. Do you care that the colors are going to be different? If you guys don't care, then let the other guys get the linen pants and your FI can go with the suit. Your FI is the groom, so him looking different won't matter. If you want everyone to match, do you think the other guys will mind spending a little bit more & getting the jcrew pants? Sorry, I don't think I helped! LOL

Congrats on booking ROR!!! Happy planning!

I can't figure out what you really get more with the royal, for the price. According to their website, these are the perks/advantage with the royal package: *Twelve color photographs along with a special photo album and CD *Natural body exfoliation for the bride and groom *Ten percent discount on all spa services for the bride and the groom (restrictions apply) Now, if you're not interested in any spa services, then you could very well just go for the free package & then do any upgrades at a cost. Also, I remember there being some controversy with Michael regarding the 12 free pics. I can't remember if he said they were included or weren't. If you're bringing your own photographer, though, and you're not interested in those pics, you could go with the free package. If you have an idea of what you want your ceremony site to look like, I'd suggest sending a picture to Chandlyn & getting a quote and then find out if that would be included in the Royal package decorations or if it would be extra. That way you can compare pricing & see if its worth it. I went with the free package because I wasn't interested in the spa services & I knew that I had my own photographer. Hope this helps you!

Which had for wedding band?

We are both unsure of why the tradition is the left hand. We know some European's wear it on the right. I told him I don't care as long as he wears it. He! He! But he is worried if it will be bad luck if he wears it on his right. Any ideas? I don't know what the "real" answer to this question is, so I decided to look it up. Here's what I found: WikiAnswers - Why do you wear wedding ring on left hand It actually depends on where you are from and what culture you are from/in. In some Western countries (UK, Ireland, the United States, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Iran, Italy, France, and Sweden), the wedding ring is worn on the left hand. In other countries such as Germany, Russia, India, Poland, Greece, Venezuela, Columbia and Spain, however, it is worn on the right hand. Orthodox Christians and Eastern Europeans also traditionally wear the wedding band on the right hand. Jewish couples wear the wedding ring on the left hand, even though it is placed on the right hand during the marriage ceremony. In The Netherlands, Catholic people wear it on the left, all others on the right; in Austria, Catholic people wear it on the right. In Belgium, the choice of hand depends on the region of the country. Greek people, many being Orthodox Christians, also wear the wedding rings on the right hand in keeping with Greek tradition. A traditional reason to wear the wedding ring on the right hand stems from Roman custom. The Latin word for left is "sinister", which in addition to this sense also has the same senses as the English word. The Latin word for right is "dexter", a word that evolved into "dexterity". Hence, the left hand had a negative connotation and the right a good one. I think that you can wear your ring however you want to. If you really don't care how he wears it, then do whatever makes you guys comfortable. -

Is it worth hiring entertainment at Riu?

I agree with Courtney. Why pay for them to see the same thing twice? Quote: Originally Posted by blurt Hi, I'm getting married at the Riu, I didn't know you could hire entertainment. But when I got them, I couldn't believe how real they looked! The fact that they even smell real is absolutely crazy. No one knew they were fake until I told them. My mom, MOH, and hubby were even surprised when I got the shipment. I could not stop looking at them when I got them. (If you look at my wedding review, in my planning thread, you'll see the pics of the bouquets that I got) I would not have paid what I did for AA, at ROR!!!! And, I would not have my bouquets at home, to look at everyday like I do now It was well worth it to me & a decision that I do not regret.

You may want to check first cuz if they do you can just be in the lobby when your guests arrive & greet them there. I do remember seeing people at the airport but can't remember what company it was.
