Happy Canada Day! Hubby and I are both home and pleasantly surprised by the weather - sunny and warm! Spent the day so far (it's 1:08 pm) washing windows and screens in my house and went for a run! Gotta love the mid-week break!

Many questions will be answered about why, the beach, costs.

Welcome! I don't have any pics of this set-up but there was a wedding there when I was at the Paradisus for a week. I don't think it's a popular choice for a couple of reasons. First, it's in the middle of the pool so every other guest at the hotel can watch and there isn't a lot of privacy. Second, it really doesn't suit having more than a handful of guests as the guests actually sit on the bridge leading up to the gaazebo. I hope that helps!

Canadian Brides - Name Change Question
MissyR replied to ~*Kathy*~'s topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
Funny cause I called the government too and got a different answer! Amanda - I did it explicity for the reason you suggested - I was told no, then yes, then it depends on who you get - it was annoying - I waited in line... you know what I mean.. so I just paid and got it done. -

Uh oh! Also, I'm looking for suggestions for photographers. I am trying to decide whether to use one from there, or fly one in. I want most of my pictures to be candid, so I need someone who is good at being unseen so they can get some great shots. I will still get the standard pics of us with certain family members, but I don't want to spend two hours taking posed pics of us with our wedding party. Any recommendations for a photog who takes great candids? Also, how long did you have your photog there for? I am thinking I want someone from when I am getting dressed through to at least the start of the dancing. And one more question, how many of you did a video of the ceremony and who did you use for that? How did it turn out? Ahh! So many questions. Now that my day is booked and I've almost got things arranged for the price, I am getting so excited. I don't think I've slept well in 3 weeks now. Can you imagine when I actually get close to the day We also took a photographer with us for the week (Visual Cravings) so we had pics prettty much the entire day. We didn't go the videographer route. Perla is great at responding as you get closer to your date so don't stress - I sometimes forgot that she had 5 weddings each week..

Fathers Day - What are you guys getting your Dads??
MissyR replied to JOSIE's topic in Random Thoughts
My dad is a die hard New York Yankees fan and it's near impossible to get Yankees gear in Toronto. My sis and I had DH pick up some awesome gear when he was in New York a few weeks back. BBQ steak, some specialty beers and a nice afternoon! -
Canadian Brides - Name Change Question

Now I got married in Cuba and my friends got married in the DR, so I think you should not waste the money having it translated, try to change it first, the way it is. It worked for me and my friends, so give it a try. That is sooo bizarre. I know that government rules are that they are supposed to only accept French or English Marriage Certificates - although I have heard that some cities will bend the rules and accept the spanish one. I know in Toronto I initially tried with just the spanish one and they outright refused. Who knows really? In terms of the apostle - don't worry if it's not raised - some hotels do it differently! -

Canadian Brides - Name Change Question
MissyR replied to ~*Kathy*~'s topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
While some countries have a national marriage registry, Canada doesn't. Each province registers mariages that were done in the home province only (not in other provinces or foreign countries). As long as you have the "apostiled" raised stamp legalizing your marriage in mexico it's legal in Canada. -
Ooh good thread: - All inclusive - One wedding a day only - family friendly - outdoor/beach ceremony and reception - many restaurant choices

Canadian Brides - Name Change Question
MissyR replied to ~*Kathy*~'s topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
Nope. As long as you have a certified translator (they use the raised seal etc) then it's as legal as the spanish one. they consider the translated one a legal certificate. I changed everything except by BC (which is considered a name assumption and not a legal name change). If you want to change your name on your birth certificate the process is different and much more stringent. -
Kelly - so sorry for your loss. I know that even as people age and feel that they are ready to go on to another better place - it is still soo difficult. Sending you hugs and thoughts -

Shower taking place 1000 miles away from home
MissyR replied to phyl630's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
Welcome Phyl630! We had a similar dilemma in that my mother in law's friends threw us a shower where my fiance is from (different from the province in which we live). What they did was they told everyone that we lived in Toronto, ON and where we were registered and people got us gift cards/gift receipts for items they had purchased and drew/took a picture of the item for us to open. We still got tons of beautiful stuff but didn't have to worry about lugging it all back with us! -
We had 60 people and did one OOT per room. We had travel stadium cups (one per person) - a 20 page book I made with guest pics and information about the hotel, spanish for dummies - a postcard with instructions (to bring to the wedding as a part of our guest book) - hand lotion - personalized first aid kits - pens - gum and advil.

Share your most memorable moment from your wedding day.
MissyR replied to yamille's topic in Random Thoughts
Great thread! I have a lot of awesome moments: 1) My dad coming to my room as we were finishing getting ready and telling me that I looked as beautiful as the day I was born. 2) DH's first sight of me and his inability to catch his breath 3) Dedicating my bouquet to my 80 year old grandma (my grandparents travelled with us for the week) - there wasn't a dry eye in the house 4) watching my Army BIL who has driven a tank in Bosnia blubber and cry during his speech and say sorry for being a blubbering idiot. 5) Having the most amazing week with all the most important people in our lives. -
Overwhelmed...where do you even begin?
MissyR replied to CnC's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
I was going to respond until I saw Savannah's response - which pretty much sums it up! Go girl! Picking the resort was by far the most difficult decision for me! -
Sounds wonderful! What a wonderful and thoughtful aunt you are - welcome to the forum and we look forward to getting to know more about you and your niece!
