Momentos from your wedding location?
Jenn79 replied to Tobi's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
We had planned on buying a Bermudian Cedar Wedding Goblet, and would have...if one of our guests hadn't given one to us as a gift. We also got an ornament for our tree, a newlywed couple under a moongate. -

The wedding is going to be on the smaller side...probably about 40 people (all of whom will be traveling to the island from either California or Massachusetts). I have been looking into wedding planners Bermuda Bride, Sweet Dreams Bermuda, and Rose of Sharon. Has anyone had experience with any of them? For the ceremony and reception I am considering Elbow Beach, Coco Reef, and the Pink Beach Club. Any suggestions? Thanks, BermudaBride2009 Hello and congrats!!! All of the resorts you've mentioned are probably good choices, but as Cattie mentioned regarding Coco Reef, they are all on the pricier side. This of course is due to their prime location on the South Shore, with their own beaches. In regards to the planners, I've only heard of Bermuda Bride myself, but I'm sure whoever you go with would be a great choice. I too worked with Barbara Whitecross from the Wedding Salon and have no complaints in regards to her work. She's professional, thorough, and knows how to get the job done. I've also heard great things about Bermuda Bride though, so what it comes down to is personal preference. One piece of advice I can't emphasize enough is to wear something light if you're planning on an August wedding, it will be HOT. Other than that, have fun with whatever you decide! Take a look at the Southampton Princess, The Reefs, 9 Beaches, and The Pompano Beach Resort for other ideas, there are so many places to choose from. Good luck with your planning!

a word of warning, August will be VERY hot. So if you do end up doing August, be sure to wear something very light that lets the air flow, and let your guests know the same. Best of luck! I'm so excited for all the Bermuda brides!!!

From different things I've read I've heard that Bermuda in Nov is not so great. Now I don't know what to do. The reefs does look beautiful. I just don't think we would be able to have our wedding on the beach there like we'd like. Too many people coming with us. I was in Bermuda about 15 yrs ago and it was BEAUTIFUL. The beaches are gorgeous. We don't plan on taking a cruise. Flying in and staying at a hotel. I'm so confused on what to do. while you might not be able to swim in the water in November, you could definitely do a wedding on the beach. It's really not that cold. The weather is a little unpredictable, but the "colder" weather doesn't really start until December/January. I never went out with more than a blazer and a sweater through the entire winter, so if it's the weather you're worried about, please don't be. Your best bets for hotel and beach would be Elbow Beach or Coco Reef, but they are expensive. Another option would be to stay at a less expensive hotel, and look into having the wedding on a public beach. I know the world "public" scares a lot of people off, but at that time of the year, you shouldn't have to worry about crowd control. Warwick Long Bay, Stonehole Bay, Chaplin Bay, and John Smith's bay are the choices that come immediately to mind. Try getting in touch with an island planner, just to talk and get their opinions on what might work. They will know better than anyone how to go about things. Good luck! Things will work out, the island really is a perfect location no matter what time of year.

It was the staircase leading down to the beach that did it for me. I knew I was going to be on the Southshore no matter what (I'd decided that much when I was six years old), it was just a matter of deciding which beach/resort. I wasn't going to be having any kind of sit down reception at the resort, so any costs would be confined to the ceremony and cake cutting. I booked my wedding package through a cruiseline's wedding company, so there was a set price no matter where you had the wedding, you just had to pay extra for transportation, seating, and whatever other extras you wanted. (side note, the cruiseline's wedding company, while seeming to be the easier way, was so disorganized. Our wedding turned out great, but it would have saved a lot of worry if we'd gone directly with an island coordinator). It really is hard to narrow it down though, all the island's beaches and resorts are so pretty.

It's unfortunately par for the course. My grandfather's response was my favourite. He told my father (his son) that he should talk some sense into me, make me have a "normal" wedding. I just rolled my eyes and tried not to laugh. As harsh as it sounds, my grandfather wasn't invited (he's loud, rude, and racist, so not exactly good to have around), so his opinion meant very little to me. It's funny how your wedding becomes all about "them", how much money "they" have to spend or the vacation time "they" have to take. They really don't have to do anything, it's an invitation, a request, not a demand. I know it's hard to take the negativity, but it will all be worth it in the end. Don't feel like you can't have a good cry, because in all honesty, it helps so much to cry it all out in one big gulp and then move on. Hope the rest of your planning goes as smoothly as these things can!

The Reefs is probably one of the nicest places on the island, very intimate and romantic. It does however have a very small beach, so if you're set on having a beach wedding, it might not be doable at this resort. They do have a really nice platform overlooking the water where weddings are performed, and one of the restaurants is actually cut into the cliffs. My parents ate at the hotel a few times when we lived there and had only good things to say about the food (and from what I remember of how you could smell it from the road, I'd be inclined to agree). The resort itself has been going through rennovations for the past little while, upgrading things here and fixing things there. But it is constantly mentioned in travel magazines as one of the best on the island. Have you taken a look at their website? (http://www.thereefs.com/romance/ )I've found myself perusing it just for fun on many occasions...I have a hard time letting the island go!

I was the same way with my wedding...it was my husband who did all the stressing out! I'll admit I went over my dress budget more than I thought I would, but that was about it. I did my own nails (the day of the wedding, while wearing the dress..my bridesmaid nearly had a fit, worrying that I would get it on the dress), my maid of honour and her mom did my hair, I used shoes that I had bought two summers before, had no extra decorations aside from the chairs for my guests (who needs adornment when the ocean is so pretty), and used a cd player for music (the planner suggested a violinist or a harpist, but it was not for me). It was the most relaxing experience of my life (once the vows were said and I made it down the aisle without tripping and falling on my face), and I would do it again in a heart beat exactly the same way. All the best to you!

We've had about a foot of snow on the ground for a few weeks now, with the big loads being dumped last Tuesday (Dec 9) and this past Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. There have been weather warnings for the past two days, but it's looking like the worst of it may be missing us. Keep warm and safe everyone, it's so not fun trying to get around with all that slippery stuff.

Timm and I were going to do it right after the wedding, but the money just hasn't been there. We are still committed to getting tattooed together at some point. Definitely go for it!

We plan on doing a low-key New Years Eve this year: pjs, order in some take-out, and get caught up on our movie watching. We're having people over on New Years day for an ornament exchange/pot luck/game playing extravaganza.

I just thought of two more books that might work for both of you: Spandau Phoenix and Black Cross by Greg Iles. They are a little more mainstream, but are really good reads, both dealing with WWII. I was reluctant to read them at first, but my father-in-law insisted I give them a try.

I know we have a lot of readers on the forum, and I just wanted to share this website I came in contact with today at work: Freedom to Read Week I thought it might be of interest, especially to the teachers on board.
