The only con is that it will be buffet vs. a platted meal, but you and your guests will be sectioned off from other guests. Some of my family members offered to fix and serve plates to everyone. I think that was a great idea. Even though I got a 2 pm slot, I still have a long wait until 6:30. One of my friends used the Riu's Hors D’ Ouvres menu to create a menu that included a variety of finger foods, a desert and fruit. I emailed it to Chandlyn to get a pp price. I didn't get a response back yet. I will do the hors D' Ouvres on the beach for an hour and the 2 hour disco. This will have everything ending at 6. I scheduled the dinner at Mamme Bay for 6:30. I am making it optional and informal. I want those who would like to start enjoying their vacation to do so. I plan on leaving the disco a littler earlier to take a shower and slip into comfortable clothing for dinner. Hope this idea helps some of you! Happy planning

  10. I started this thread because this question has been driving me insane. I would like to thank all of you ladies for all the helpful and useful information and ideas. The Riu brides are the greatest! Early brides should have a lot of options to consider now. I'm so glad I found you all to share ideas with. Robert left for Iraq this morning. This has been the worst day and I know the longest night ever!!! He has been right by my side for every decision that has been made for our wedding. Even the tiniest details...like font types!! It helps to know that you all are out there now. For all of you with faith...please keep our soldiers in your daily prayers. Thanks again for all the great info!! Tee Tee, I'm holding it down girl!!

    Finally!!!!

I'm so glad I found you all. I am stressing because my wedding is at 12 p.m. and I have no options until 6 p.m. The Riu OR brides are a great bunch...they are really the experts!! You guys are great too!! My FH has left for Iraq today. It has been a long night!!!!!!!!!!!!! These next 9 months will be sooooo hard!! He has been right by my side in every decision we have made regarding this wedding. I'm glad I have you all to plan with now!! For all of you with faith...please keep our soldiers in your daily prayers.
  12. Thanks Mo, this is awesome! My TA also gave me this weblink Jamaica Tours Limited

I'm not sure but I would imagine it is only an option for thos having the last wedding of the day considering they need to set p for the next wedding. I am not positive about that though all I know is I pressed this issue and was never given it as an option. It is worth asking about though. We have two tour buses picking us up outside the main lobby at 12:30 and taking us to Evita's and returning us when we are finished there. The company we are using is Lee's Taxi and Tours. They have been great. The cost is $10.00 per person. Jamaica Tours wanted $12.00 per person and I can't remember any of the other pricing. The restaurant is costing us $46.00 per person for appetizers, salad, 4 choices of entree, and wedding cake made by a private baker. We are adding to that with the help of the restaurant's owner, floral centerpieces for $20.00 each, and a reggae band that will play for 2 hours for $600.00. Open bar is $10.00 per person per hour, or you can run a tab. we are running a tab.By the time we would have added cocktails and appetizers on the beach, paid for the Plantation, added the Riu's centerpieces, upgraded the menu, added open bar, and booked the disco, I think it comes out to almost the same. Plus I think it will be a nice touch to treat the guests to a trip off the resort and to a new restaurant that they will not be eating at during the rest of their stay. Thank you...It's nice to have options!

I offered to pay whatever was necessary to open one of the ala carte restaurants or close the Plantation. I had my travel agent take it higher than Chandlyn. I was told no and was not given any other suggestions. So I booked my reception offsite begining at 1:00 at Evita's and I am so glad I did. The owner of the restaurant has been way more helpful in planning a recpetion than Chandlyn. That being said I realize that it is preferable to stay on the resort. I also thought of looking into some sort of boat ride or catamaran so I think that would be a nice option. If that deosn't work out I think that just having cocktails and maybe appetizers on the beach following the ceremony would be fine. In fact my sister was mad that I didn't just go with the 6:30 dinner because she wanted to go to the beach and pool in between the ceremony and reception. So I think your guests would enjoy some time to relax. Hi Mo, Did you know anything about the beach reception? Do you know if that is an option? How are you transporting your guests to and from Evita's? Is that a very expensive option? Sorry, I have so many questions

That can be an option depending on how many guests actually book. I pray we do not exceed 50. If we have 50 that's $2,500. My best friend just got married in Mobile, AL and just her food was $4,000. Congrats...my wedding is July 26, 2008. RiuBride2b and I are on the same day!!
