Those look great - everyone on this forum is so creative! I just ordered my invites - no DIY for me - too stressful.

Dear Self: Try not to be so stressed, worried, and anxious all the time. The past is in the past. Think about today but plan for the future. Don't sweat the small stuff and RELAX.

Dad Attire
chicago88 replied to PVBride's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
Very Cute. My Dad is wearing a light linen suit w/ a white shirt. I think the GM's are wearing Khaki pants & a white short sleave shirt. My FI is wearing a tan suit, white shirt, turquoise in the tie. BM's are wearing (hopefully) these sapphire dresses (it looks like turquoise). I hope this works? -
Hmmm.... I'm not sure if I like that too much?

Ok, so it sounds like we can have either tables of 6 or 8 at the Plantation. Good to know. What about the Mamme Bay? Do we have the same option?

Isn't there outdoor seating for the lobby bar? I thought there was a terrace just off of it. Does anyone have a picture of what I'm talking about? -
I'm not sure where that was posted but it was. I'm going to get it from the Riu and ask that they do not put any rum in it - we'll see?

Wow - that has so much info. Thanks for posting it. I'll definitely need to reference it again!

Where can i have my FREE welcome mixer - ROR

I was going do to more of a welcome dinner that drinks. Hopefully, Chandlyn will have a place for all of us - Anyone else doing this? I thought that after dinner if people want to go for a drink we can just head to one of the bars. If you don't necessarily need it to be private, you can meet at any of the bars since it is AI. How many people are you having? This would save money! -
Help me plan a "mini" itinerary - ROR
chicago88 replied to PrecisePlans's topic in Jamaica Accommodations & Site
Yes, my guests are coming on different days - Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday staying to either Sunday or Monday. I wanted to do a few things together but not overload them & give them a chance to do what they want. Should I add something else? I thought I was going to have more people come but we only have 36 booked so far. It is 4 1/2 months away so I know people are still going to book. I do have the plantation reserved but if I have under 50 I'll have to switch to Mammee Bay. -
Glad you got it figured out. Come to think of it - I didn't do any of that. I think my TA did. They (TA) gave me my confirmation # and said it was booked. The first time I e-mailed Chandlyn I gave her this # and asked if I was confirmed for my time and location and she said yes. Now your making me nervous too, lol.

Hair and Make Up at the Riu!
chicago88 replied to PrecisePlans's topic in Jamaica Accommodations & Site
If you don't have a friend or family member that does makeup I would get a trial done at the salon and see if you like it. I'm lucky because my friend that is a hair stylist is doing my hair & makeup. We are going to go shopping at Mac before we leave and do a trial here. She's also doing my hair. I would definitely take advantage of the salon - it is your wedding day! I'm sure they'll do a great job. You can always designate a friend as a backup that knows something about makeup. -
Ooh - this seems like a super good deal. I want to order some but I don't know how many people are going yet. Right now there are 36 but I thought we were going to have 50 or over??

Mora - I'm very sory for your loss.

Riu Ocho Rios Polluting the Sea with Sewage?!?!

Quote: Originally Posted by MoBride This article in the Jamaica Gleaner reports the Riu is being taken to court for allegedly polluting the sea with sewage. I hope it's not true. The article did not sound too good to me, but here it is: Mammee Bay owners to sue hotel over beach breaches published: Sunday | September 23, 2007 Devon Evans, Sunday Gleaner Writer A section of the RIU hotel in Ocho Rios, St. Ann. The hotel is one of several being built by Spanish investors on the island. - File St. Ann: Members of the board of Mammee Bay Beach Club, representing owners of properties in the Mammee Bay Estate, in St. Ann, say they will be taking court action against the operators of the Riu Hotel for breaches of the Environmental Act. The decision to take the operators of the hotel to court stems from a long-standing dispute over the frequent pollution of the Mammee Bay Beach by sewage and other waste waters allegedly coming from the hotel. Chairman of the board of the Mammee Bay Beach Club, Ken Thompson, said the club had utilised all amicable means of getting the hotel to discontinue the alleged pollution of the beach without any success, and that the only other option was to take the matter to court. He claimed that the latest incident took place on Thursday morning when residents of the community were prevented from having their regular early-morning swim because the entire beach was flooded with discoloured waste water, believed to be coming from the hotel. Thompson said several of the residents have been complaining of skin rashes after bathing in the sea. He is questioning why the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) has not taken any action with regard to this problem the agency has been aware of the situation for many months. Entry blocked When The Sunday Gleaner news team visited Mammee Bay on Thursday, a cesspool emptier, escorted by a representative of NEPA, was seen making its way towards the beach. But their entry was blocked by security guards who insisted they should await the arrival of members of the press. On the beach, a tractor was seen scraping up discoloured sand, which was then used as a barrier to prevent further leakage of effluent on to the beach. There were also personnel from the Riu Hotel using a water pump to transmit water into a hole dug out by the tractor. Board member of the club, Herbert Murdock, described the management of Riu Hotel as arrogant and disrespectful of the ordinary Jamaican people. He said for over a year, they have been bringing the matter to the attention of the hotel and that litigation seemed the only sensible recourse to the illegal and unhealthy practice. Murdock pointed out that, since the construction of the hotel over two years ago, members of his board had been carrying out tests of the waste water polluting the beach and that the results had shown that the bacteria level was way higher than normal and that further evidence was manifested by the effects the water has had on the skin on bathers. Up to press time yesterday, The Sunday Gleaner was unable to get a response from the management of Riu Hotel. That is so gross....I hope it's not true. Keep us updated if you find out anything from your TA. -
Welcome Nissi - I'm also getting married at the Riu on 2/15/08!!!

So, I got some really bad news....

So, I either will have a very hard time when we are ready to get pregnant, or I never will be able to... I have been pretty devestated when she told me that, so today I went for another whole slew of blood work. I really don't understand all these tests fully, so if anyone knows more about it, feel free to tell me more. But from everything I have been reading online, says anything above 10, it is almost medically impossible... Shelly-I'm so sorry. I don't really know anything on the subject but I'm sure there are some different options available that you can try. Hang in there and don't count anything out yet!! -

Once the guests leave, the real vacation begins and then you can explore some of the other things the resort has to offer as well as Ocho Rios...or Jamaica for that matter. I am a big food person, so I hope I will be content with eating at the same restaurants for 11 nights... I guess I'll just order different items on the different menu everytimes, lol. FutureMrsButler08 - It seems like there are a lot of restaurants to choose from at the resort so I wouldn't worry. You could always ask the hotel for recommendations on a restaurant outside the resort if you wanted to get out one night...
