I haven’t heard about a fee for having my own photographer…. I did hear that the photographer had to be booked as a guest, but since she’s my cousin there for my wedding she is a guest…. Do you think this is something I should check into? I really am not going to pay them extra because my cousin is shooting my pics! By the way my wedding is May 29 and my cousin is going to be in Jamaica between May 27 – June 1st (not sure of the exact date she is going to arrive and depart yet). If anyone is going to be there around the same time as me, I’ll ask her if she is willing to consider shooting other weddings or even TTD or BD. Weddings are not her specialty, but she is wonderful (I might be bias since she’s my favorite cousin, but she has been taking pictures of me my whole life and I LOVE every single picture she takes). I am going to try to post her website (once I get permission and figure out how) so some of her work can be seen.

Welcome! I’m getting married at the ROR in May 2008. There are quite a few girls here that have been to the Riu who can answer many of your questions and give you lots of advice (they are great!). Just ask away….
  3. Welcome!!! It’s never too early to start planning for your special day. You are in the right place for lots of support and ideas!!

  5. Ok….how many guests are you going to have and then how many tables do you think you would have Another idea (if you are going to have a small guest list) is possibly having a little portable DVD player on each table (or at different sections of the table if it’s a long rectangle) and having a copy playing on each DVD player. The DVD’s are battery operated so you wouldn’t have to worry about the power supply… the battery should last for a couple of hours so your guests could watch the slid show while at the reception dinner at their leisure. Everyone has portable DVD player’s theses days, And I’m sure a lot of people plan to bring theirs on the long plane ride, so everyone who has one could just loan theirs…(and a dependable, younger cousin, niece/nephew, could be given the very special job of ensuring all the DVD players are accounted for and up and ready to play the slid show).
  6. Hey Jocelyn, I can’t think of a cheaper way to show your slid show at your reception. But I was thinking that if you have a suite, you could have a little mixer for your guests to drop by and/or wander in & out or just chill for a while. You could just connect your camcorder, portable DVD, laptop, or whatever to the TV and have in running while you have your mixer in the suite…. I think I saw some where on here that someone had a little gathering in their room and the resort brought up drinks at no additional cost. Just an idea, I’ll keep thinking about the BIG PICTURE (at the reception) :-)
  7. Hello Ladies!!!! I’ll be there May 26-June 1 and I’m getting married May 29th! (I need to change my ticker…). I haven’t really posted in a while, but every once in awhile I’ve been able to come a take a peak at what you ladies have been up to. I just want to say you guys rock! And are such an inspiration. Thanks!! Hey are there any more ROR late May brides?
  8. Thanks so much!!! I don’t have my shoes yet and I've been having a hard time finding any that have the "WOW" factor.... I was beginning to think since I'm on the beach I'll just go bare, but think how hot some TTD photos will be with some hot shoes! Thanks again.
  9. Oh no!!!!! (I know you probably have) but did you emailed Chandlyn yet about options? And if so what reply did you receive? For a reception at the Plantation were you going to have to pay anything extra? If so, maybe Chandlyn can accommodate you by maybe setting up your reception on the beach... Is that possible (I think I heard it cost extra to hold anything on the beach due to setup)? Chandlyn as the wedding coordinator should be able to help you out. I would put some heat on her...she needs to be more helpful to you, if she can not accommodate you at the resort than she should be able to provide you with other options...even off the resort if that is what it takes. I would point out that you are bring A LOT of business to the resort just for your wedding and you would hate to have to look into other options, possibly moving to another resort altogether….I have the email for the marketing coordinator for the whole Riu resort chain so If Chandlyn does not look like she helping, maybe you could go higher. (All I do is handle complaints from customers for the company I work for, so I’m like a professional complainer, if you need some help let me know). Everything is going to work out for you J
  10. Welcome and congrats!!! Everyone here is soooo helpful and share wonderful ideas. I'm a ROR bride too!!!!
  11. Welcome and congrats!!! Everyone here is soooo helpful and share wonderful ideas. I'm a ROR bride too!!!!
  12. Thanks so much for the info! I have another question for you, did it cost extra for the cocktail hour after the wedding? And did you say it was on the beach or at a bar? Just looking at your pictures has made me so excited....I'm thinking more and more about my wedding in May 08'!
  13. Hi Jerrzygirl, Congratulations!!!! Your pics looked wonderful and it looks like you had so much fun. Your review of your wedding and overall experience makes me feel so much better about my up coming wedding in ROR. I’m glad you had such a good time! Thanks so much for sharing. I have a question for you, did you make all of your plans in advance? Or did you have a good idea of what you wanted and just worked everything out when you arrived?
  14. Thank you so much Mo! This is such a great idea. You did a wonderful job and I know your guests were very thankful for all of the info you provided. Thanks again, D
  15. Those are too cute! And you’re right, they are a definite DIY project. The site does have a lot of cute ideas as well.
  16. I am in the same situation as you ladies. I just confirmed my wedding date for May 26th from 12-1 and I haven’t had a chance to confirm my reception yet, but I’m already prepared for the 6:30 answer. Sooo what to do? I had no idea and everyone on this thread has provided some great ideas. The group boat ride sounds great, If the everyone that came for the wedding could just have drinks and on the boat. I was thinking of possibly taking everyone to the Dunn, but I really don’t want to get wet and mess up my hair before the reception. I thought my guess may not have minded the time in between, but I still feel like since they came so far to for the wedding I should probably try to make a day whole day of it. Your ideas are great and I’m going to keep thinking of possibilities, I know between all of the ladies on this site we will come up with lots of options.
  17. Oh my goodness!!!!! I totally want to do a trash the dress now. Kelly your pictures are BEAUTIFUL . Your and your hubby could totally be models. They are wonderful and I think I remember you saying you just met the photographer at the resort She did a wonderful job and you were both obviously comfortable with her.
  18. One of the girls posted a template for the water bottle labels. I cant remember which thread it is on, but here is the link to the site that was provided. http://www.weddingbee.com/wp-content...le%20Blank.doc It’s really cute and can be customized. As far as the type of paper to use….I’m not really sure I was going to do a test label and try cardstock or regular scrap booking paper. And I would try double sided tape (you can get a whole bunch at Sams club or Costco), if you use glue I think you would need something a little stronger than a glue stick, but not something that is going to be wet and create wrinkles on the paper.
  19. I was thinking about your dilemma and thought maybe you can ask how much it would cost to purchase the water bottles from them and just have the labels ready. I didn’t think of that until just now, I’m going to look into the cost of that for me as well. Having a place to throw ideas around is great!
  20. Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!
  21. I think I’m going to make my invitations myself, but I was looking around for ideas and found a site and style that I just love!!! You should check out this site: Beach, Water, Tropical, Destination, and Garden Wedding Invitations-DesignsbyLenila.com Offers Custom Coordinating Wedding Invitations, Party Favors, Guest Books, and Response Cards for all Your Party Needs After seeing those invitations I thought about ordering from them instead of making mine. They have destination themed invitations, but they look very soft and classic. I really haven’t looked or figured out the total pricing for them though.
  22. Welcome Brittney! I’m a newbie and getting married at Riu Ocho Rio’s in May 2008. Isnt it exciting!!!!! There are soooo many Riu Ocho Rio’s brides here with lots of info!!! Everyone is very helpful and caring! Congratulations on you upcoming wedding and happy planning.
  23. Welcome Riu Bride! I just found this site as well and it is great! I’m getting married at the Riu in Ocho Rios Jamaica!!!! Everyone here is very helpful and informative, it is a great site.
  24. Thanks for the feedback! Some of the girls at work suggested buying the bottles of water there as well. I’m going to start looking into where I can purchase the water and about how much it might cost. There are a lot of unknowns….. What I thought about doing, since I’m doing a beach wedding, is finding some cute sand buckets, fill it with ice and put the bottles of water in them. Then I could place them on the outside isles at the ceremony. The guests could get them before and after the ceremony (who knows how hot and sunny it will be that day). Just an idea….and a lot of materials needed (bottle water, sand buckets, ice).
