A friend and I were in the Virgin Islands earlier this year and ate at a restaurant on St. Thomas called Mafolie. It sits high on the hill and has a fantastic view. The food and service were outstanding. We actually saw a small wedding reception the night we were there.

Bikini waxing is not that bad. I actually have an appointment tonight! It really is only uncomfortable for a couple seconds. But I am certain that a Brazilian may be quite a bit more uncomfortable. Start with just a regualr bikini wax and know that you won't have to get another one for several weeks!

Sarah (and Myles), Sorry to hear that you are going through this. My fiancee and I also had the same problem. I realized that no matter where we had it someone was going to complain and you can't please everyone. Like everyone else has said, it is your day. Do what you want!! As for the people complaining about expenses (which is a very valid point), I told them to sign up for an American Airlines Citibank MasterCard. They get 20,000 bonus miles after the first purchase, plus they can use the card from now until the wedding on everyday purchases. Before they know it, they will have enough points to get a free round trip ticket. Maybe you can suggest that when they start complaining to you. You have a big heart and that is why you are worried about everyone else but you never know. Maybe after all the complaining, this could be the best "vacation" of some of their lives. Enjoy! Melissa

Hi Becky, Congrats on the engagement!!! I live in DC too (Rosslyn actually) and have several friends that are from Argentina. Let me know if there is anything that I can do to help. Regards, Melissa

My mother was in town to visit so I made sure to do my first dress shopping when she was here so that she could be a part of it. A couple of friends went too. I loved having them there and seeing their impressions when I walked out of the fitting room. It was definitely a weird but great feeling. It makes it all seem so much more real. I also agree that you should definitely try on all types of dresses. You might be pleasantly surprised. I told the lady at the shop that I didn't want lace, beads, ruffles or bows. The dress I liked the best had some of the elements to it. You just never know.

Hi Susan, Thanks for the suggestion of Dreams Cancun. I have been to Cancun several times and to be honest it is way too touristy for me so I didn't even consider it. But I went and looked at some pictures and read some reviews and it really sounds like something we are looking for. I guess it will have to be added to list of places we will see during our upcoming site visit. Also, I suppose we can honeymoon in PDC or more south since that is much more our speed and then everyone will be happy! Thanks again, Melissa

My FI and I are going down for a site visit in September and we are staying at OGX but only because my AmEx points allowed us to stay there for free. We hadn't actually considered it as a location for our reception (we will have a church ceremony) because of the man-made beach (we are definite beach people) but the reception set-up looks nice. I guess I will have to add this place to the list.

Thanks for the suggestions. I really like EDR but I believe it is adults only and we will have several children. Also, I have been to Moon Palace and it is very lovely but I am worried about the cost for all the guests (plus a friend was just married there in December). I have looked into the Rius but am waiting on a response from the WC. We are going down for a site visit in September so I wanted to narrow down the places that we will visit since we are only there for 2 days. I am sure we will be very busy "site-seeing" so it will be weird going to Mexico knowing that there won't be any beach time!

Does anyone have a recommendation for a Latin recessional song?

Why did you choose your date?
melglnh2o replied to twinkletoes's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
We picked May 10, 2008 becuase it was the only month (and weekend) that didn't seem to have another wedding or graduation or other. Plus it is Mother's Day weekend (May 10th in Mexico and May 11th in the US) and we wanted to have a special brunch on Sunday in our mothers' honor. Also, it is not too close to the Christmas and New Year's holidays. But it did take us a while to decide on that date!! -
Thanks again everyone. This forum has been a wealth of knowledge and a great resource.

Hi Chris, I actually have a lot of information already but thanks much. Emmanuelle the WC has been wonderful in her response times and providing a lot of pricing, pictures, etc. I was just wondering if anyone on here has actually already been married there and what their experience was like. Congrats to you on picking this location. It really does look lovely! Melissa

I have already found so many wonderful ideas on this forum and haven't even come close to looking at everything. Thanks again for everyone's kind greetings. For those asked and who are familiar with the DC area, I actually live in Rosslyn. Originally from Columbus, Ohio, I moved here via Minnesota almost 10 years ago and I love it here!! Annie ~ Thanks for your suggestion about Dreams Tulum. Unfortunately the chapel there can only hold about 20 people and we plan on having 4 times that many people. The research continues...

Thanks so much everyone for the warm welcome. I didn't realize there were so many of you from the DC area! We are expecting about 80-90 people (including children). Ideally, we are looking for a somewhat private place to have the reception, possibly a restaurant terrace overlooking the water, but we want to be able to dance and carry-on without any time restrictions. His family is Latin and they will party until the sun comes up! We are coming down for a site visit on September 21 through 23 and hope to be able to narrow our options to a handful. We want to be able to check out the local Catholic Churches as well. Has anyone done their civil and then a religious ceremony in PDC?
