  1. We dated about 3 and a half years before he proposed and it will have been about a year engagement so together for about 4 and a half.

I was driving home from work one night and passed by the Jared's and just stopped in. This is what we ended up with. HIS: MINE (but with princess cut diamonds instead of round): Sorry for the highjack!

So many people gave me grief about making the trip because they didn't think it was safe but I have dealt with snow for 23 years or so. I lived in Minnesota after Ohio so I am used to driving in the snow. Plus I have a 4 wheel drive which helps. My MOH really wanted to kill me after I slid around some corners. Mind you I warned her first and did it on purpose because isn't oh so fun? I miss the snow!

  5. I would definitely drive 4 hours to get the dress of my dreams and also to save all that money. Grab a girlfriend or two and make it a road trip!!
  6. I had a similar experience when I ordered our wedding bands a few weeks ago. My e-ring is platinum but I ended up getting palladium bands for both of us. Palladium is part of the platinum family and it is just as rare but the main difference is that it is lighter in weight. When I first told FI about palladium he said that he didn't want it because he thought it was a mix of platinum and aluminum. How funny is that!! After the lady explained the difference and he knew that it was a pure metal then he thought it was crazy to pay 3 times that for platinum. He probably wishes that he would have known that before he shelled out the money for the platinum e-ring. Palladium just doesn't have the popularity factor YET!!!
  7. I live in DC now but was born and raised in Columbus where my SIL was throwing me a bridal shower yesterday. So my MOH and I head to the airport on Friday night to fly to Columbus but when we got to the airport, we found out that our flight was cancelled and we couldn't get on another flight until Saturday night. My SIL has been planning this shower since last June or so and I know she has gone to so much trouble and has been so excited about it. There was no way I was going to miss it. So my MOH and I just decide to drive instead. We left the DC area at 8pm and hit every kind of weather you could imagine. The fog was so horrible that I couldn't even see the front of my car or the lines on the side of the road but it didn't last too long. We were doing okay until we got just inside the Ohio border. It hailed, it rained, it sleeted and it snowed and snowed and snowed. Cars were off in the ditch. We saw other cars spin out but I was determined to make it so we kept driving although very slow and finally arrived in Columbus at my brother's house at 3:30am. I thought my MOH was going to kill me! But we woke up to about a foot or so of snow and by the time it was done I think it was close to 20 inches and the most surprising part was that everyone but 3 people ended up coming to the shower and it was fantastic! But the snow was really beautiful. We don't get that in DC but if we did the city would shut down for a month!

Hello Valerie and welcome. Good luck with your planning.
  9. Very nice and creative idea, especially for pearl lovers! Thanks for posting the site.

Fingers are crossed that he actually comes through this time. Thanks for the update.
  11. Wow. Great find. Too bad I already ordere mine too. I did see some other items of interest on the site though. Thanks.
  12. Wow. Those look fantastic. I love the bag. I would be excited to get one of those.
  13. I would travel the world extensively and appreciate every place for what it is. I really enjoy traveling and have done quite a bit but time and money have really been barriers to going to all the places that I want to but haven't been.
  14. Your dress is beautiful and you look great in it. Go for it girl! A destination is anything but traditional so do what you want. If you don't wear the dress you really want then you may end up regretting it later. No regrets.
  15. Hello and welcome. This is the site for information overload but all in a fantastic way. You are going to love it here!
  16. Hello and welcome. At least you have the location and date picked. That is a great start. Good luck with your planning.
  17. I am so excited!! I hope mine turned out okay and that I still like it since it was a men's ring that they ordered in a size 5. FI really wanted matching rings and I couldn't find a band to match my e-ring anyway so I jumped on board. Also, I am going to get FI's ring engraved. For those that had their rings engraved, how long does the engraving usually take?
  18. Welcome Megan. Picking the location was the hardest part for me by far so I can feel your frustration. I have never been to Hawaii so I can't vouch for that but have you considered Mexico? It is still relatively easy and inexpensive to get to, especially from the Midwest, and there are so many different price range of places to fit any budget. If you don't want to travel outside the US, have you looked into Florida or California? Have you picked your date yet?
  19. Hello Theresa. Congrats and welcome. All of those places sound fantastic. You have a tough choice but the good thing is that you can't go wrong. Good luck!
  20. Hi Kristi. Welcome to the forum. Only 2 more months. You must be so excited. Congrats.
  21. I would still send them the invite. We invited almost 200 people but some of them had told us they couldn't make it but we sent the invites anyway because we wanted them to know we were thinking about them.
  22. Hi Jen. Welcome to the forum. We are also having a large crowd (100 people) but after a site visit to PDC, Cancun and everywhere in between, we settled on the Fiesta Americana Condesa in Cancun. It was the perfect place for us. Another hotel we really liked was the Paradisus. Maybe you could check that out. I know a lot of girls on here are getting married there. When I was there for the site visit, I saw a wedding going on and the reception was outside and it looked really nice. Good luck with your planning.
  23. I have used all the major sites (expedia, travelocity, orbitz, hotels.com, bookit) for both business and personal travel and the only one I ever had trouble with was hotels.com. They couldn't find the hotel reservation for one of my employees and of course the hotel was booked as were all hotels nearby. It caused a big headache for the employee. Then when I contacted them and forwarded the email confirmation that I had received from them, they still couldn't find the reservation. It really amazed me. Plus they weren't helpful or sympathetic or anything. But with that said, a perfectly reputable company can make a mistake. Good luck with booking the room. I am sure everything will work out great. Just call to confirm a couple days before you leave to make sure they have the reservation.
