Congratulations and welcome!! We're also getting married in Jamaica We have a small group and are getting married at a small AI about 10 miles from Negril - Coral Cove Resort in Little Bay. The resort has 13 rooms total, so its a little more quaint and personal. The larger resorts are great if you have a big group, but check it out if you're considering a smaller party. We have been very happy with everyone at the resort so far! Let us know what you're planning and how we can help! A lot of us are headed for Jamaica on here

Wedding Gown Problems!
Jenn replied to Spazz's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I'm so sorry Mo! That's awful - I can only imagine. When I went shopping, there was a store I walked out of because the owner came out, looked at me, and said, "we don't have anything that fits her." All their dresses were sample size 8... thank you, you can take your bazillion dollar dresses and shove 'em! I don't know where these women get off - this ends up being the most expensive dress you ever buy, and you don't need anyone's attitude or thoughts on your weight. I'm sorry you have to pay so much for alterations. I hope your mom gave the owner an earfull! We all know you will look beautiful and can't wait to see pics! -

I want it to be a little bit more on the formal side, outside looking over the ocean, but maybe not necessarily right on the sand. Im trying to stick to places that are price friendly for my guests, so I guess Mexico? Most of my guests are coming from the east coast, are there other places that are all price friendly for my guests? I would like it to be an all inclusive resort so it would be easier for the guests, but I want a nice place too... any suggestions? Thanks! Good luck with the planning everyone! There are definitely a lot of Mexico brides who can point you in the right direction. Jamaica also has a lot of AI hotels (Riu, Sunset at the Palms, Beaches - google - there are a ton), as does the Dominican Republic (Iberostar). Check out the marriage requirements for each place (residency stay, blood tests, etc). I'm sure you'll find something perfect!

Oh yeah... Congrats on the job!!! That's exciting news!

So sorry you have to deal with this! People can be so self-absorbed and not realize that you are doing a lot to make sure they have a great time celebrating your day. Very incosiderate that your bridesman is being a flake! And the title thing is ridiculous... as an MD, I wouldn't be offended if a wedding invite didn't include that. Don't let these things get you down. As Christine said, people will always find something to complain about. The important thing is that you are getting married... the rest will fall into place.

How much did you / are you paying for photograhy?

I think they have a travel fee for OR, but not sure what it is. I agree that Riu's price sounds high. We were quoted about $400 for our resort photographer for 5 hours and all images on CD, but we're at a small AI. -

Definitely call them! I'm sure they'll send you a new one if they screwed up!!! Luckily it didn't take long to process, so you'll have time to get the new one before the wedding Let us know what they say. Other than the mix up, the book looks awesome! I may have to do this if they fix their error for you! -

Plus a couple of my bridesmaids also have a different rotations schedule, so I hope I can work it out. I'm still trying to pick a place to have it, I dont even know where to begin.. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated! When I start thinking about it alll, my head just starts spinning THanks!!! Welcome Michelle! Planning any wedding in med school would be really tough! Are you currently a second year or third year? I would think it would be easier to do before starting rotations, or during fourth year when most schools will give you some vacation blocks. Are there any locations you're thinking about? Let us know how we can help you, and feel free to PM me if you have any med school questions (I'm very happy to be done with all that).

Post your centerpieces here
Jenn replied to bethtamar's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
Working on an idea using Blumebuds... Blumebud 6-pack , "Lucia" - Aqua Birds: Blumebox We are almost 100% using 1 long table. We're thinking about using these as combination decoration/placecard, aqua with a single red flower. The table will also have flower petals and probably some small votives (similar to Jamy's). What do you guys think? We had been planning to do small glass vials with everyone's name as a placecard, but this will be so-oo much lighter to take with us! -

I am guessing that it will cost anywhere from $1000-$2000 to use the contracted RIU photographer. I don't know what Riu's policy on outside photographers is, but we had looked into Jamaican photographers before talking to Robin DePaula. Sungold Photography is out of Negril, and we really liked their work. They weren't available for our date, but they were about $1900 for all the whistles and bells. We are super psyched to be working with Robin - her deal worked perfectly within our budget, and she's such a sweetheart! We can't wait to meet her -

I just bought them "mom" wedding handkerchiefs and will probably get my mom an inexpensive starfish necklace. Oh, I also got her a monogrammed tote bag, but will probably give that to her for Christmas instead. I didn't even think about it, but we are paying for my mom's hotel room (or plan to if they'll let us). I know she's giving FI a gift, and she's contributed to the wedding, so I think we need to give her something tangeable.

Beach towels in OOT bags
Jenn replied to flygirl's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
We're doing beach towels with our monogram. We only have 22 guests though. I don't think I'd do them if we had a large party simply because of the weight. You could distribute them before the wedding, so you don't have to fly with all of them. -
I read through some of the older threads, but was wondering what some of you ended up doing or are planning to give to your parents. We have my mom, her boyfriend, and FFIL. I'm planning on buying a hankie for my mom, and probably a starfish brooch or necklace. FI is planning on getting something for my mom, but unsure what yet. Mom's b-friend probably a monogrammed cigar holder and a few cubans. No clue on FFIL. What are you ladies doing?
