  1. My TA adviced me against signing a contract (prebooking) with the resort for my guests. So we only put down deposits for ourselves, gave TA info to all the guests and let them do their own booking.

Thanks for posting. One note, make a photocopy of your passport and driver license to carry with you and scan/email another copy to yourself. That way, if you loses these documentations, you'll have some form of proof and will be easier to get the replacements.
  3. Wow, I bet you're excited. Just take a couple nights off to relax yourself and make a list of things you would like to pack. Some obvious stuff to add to your list: sunscreen, first aid kits, a pen, tampon (from the married girls lol), bugs off wipes, painkiller, a pair of long pants if you're going horseback riding, water shoes if you go to Dunns River Falls (or rent there for $5), sewing kits, aloe, chap stick, dramamine, insulated mug (cups at Riu are small)...
  4. Where are the pics? I am still drooling here...
  5. If you go to tripadvisor, every resort you'll find some negative reviews. But if you look at the # of overall reviews and the rating of the resort, you wonder if these people stayed at the same place or not? I warned my guests on my wedding website that they'll be on Island time, everyone is very laid back, so just relax and pay some respect to others and they'll receive the same respect back.
  6. to the forum! Happy planning...
  7. I would still suggest to call up couple TAs. They have gone to many locations and seen many resorts/hotels to be knowledgable enough to find something perfect or close to what you want. We would all love to help here and there's thread about why we chose our destination, but we might be limited to places we know of and that's only a small percentage of all the options available out there. Yes, TAs get commissions from vendors, but if they can find the one place that fit your vision for you to have your dream wedding then they deserve that fat check right?
  8. elcome to the forum. You'll find lots of good information here. Happy planning!
  9. Oh Heidi, I am terribly sorry to hear about your loss. In the past few weeks, seems like a lot have happened to you and totally unexpected. I can't imagine the emotional cycles you're having to deal with. Your dad wasn't being himself in the past few years, so deep down he still loved you. It is good that you can be with your siblings and be there for each other. Please take very good care of yourself during this difficult time, for yourself, your families and your baby. God blesses you!
  10. I love the flower in the hair too. If I wear a veil, will just be a really simple one under the hair like Kelly and take off during reception. Thought about a pearl headband and wanted to borrow my sis' so it will be something borrowed. But she had moved last year and don't know where she put it, so I am giving up on that idea.

That's too funny. I thought about putting something down like that too because the island property at the resort I'm getting married on is typically for cloth optional people only. But Paul voted against it, oh well... lol
  14. Since we are not getting married on the beach, this is what I put on our website: "We are in Jamaica and since it will be outdoor it is going to be hot and humid. The wedding is going to be a relaxed and carefree celebration, so we are encouraging a "beach chic" look for the events. Ladies should wear summer dresses. Men should wear a nice shirt and pants (Tommy Bahama look is good)."
  15. Oh, that sounds like a lot of fun! I've been dying to learn how to make sushi, but just can't make my lazy butt to actually try it. Let us know how it goes. Yum, yum...
  16. Welcome to the forum and happy planning!

  19. For all of you whose wedding is coming up, you have my moral support. You can all do it!! Go lose that last 5 lbs you want!!! Go, Go, Go, Ra, Ra, Ra...
  20. They look beautiful! I love orange calla lilly too. It will be part of my bouquet as well.
  21. My mom is not the emotional type. She certainly didn't cry when she saw my sis in her wedding dress, so I doubt she'll cry when she sees mine. If she says I look nice that would be a big compliment from her.
  22. Welcome to the forum! I was like you, checking out the site and gathering information before becoming activity engaged on the message boards. There are quite a few Riu brides here so you should be able to get TONs of information.
