Thankfully my card company took care of it and nothing more came of it. I've checked my credit report a couple times after wards and everything is fine since then. Great advice Maria, wish I'd had that when I went through this. Lizz- I hope your FI's credit is not affected too much, it's good you were alerted early on. I would also recommend joining one of the online credit agencies - freecreditreport.com or something - so that you keep a close eye for any changes in your report. It honestly took me 3 years to get everything removed from my report. I had 3 credit cards opened with my information and another address about 7 years ago. It was a pain in the a$$! Hopefully this gets resolved for you quickly Thanks girls!!!! Mike is not usually good with stuff like this. I'm completely anal and am always checking my credit cards and credit report, but he NEVER does, so I'm going to have to make sure he stays on top of it from now on.

First--- call all 3 credit agencies and report the identity theft. Ask them to put a flag on your account for 30 days to buy you time. From there on, anytime credit is requested, the creditor will have to call your FI and ask him security questions before being approved. Second, get a copy of the police report and make sure it details the issue! Send this to all 3 credit reporting agencies. This will put a 7 year flag on his account and creditors will have to call to speak with him personally before credit lines are opened. This will also require credit agencies to block any derogatory items related to this theft from appearing on his credit report. If anything does show up on his credit report, he should immediately request validation of the debt from the creditor and send a copy of the police report to them. Despite what they may say, THEY are responsible for PROVING the debt is his- otherwise they can't pursue it with him. Biggest thing I can say---- DETAIL EVERYTHING! Keep a log of every phone call made, the person spoken with, and a description of the call and any pertinent information. Do this even with the police department!!! It's been 5 years since I dealt with my identity theft and I still have issues because the police report didn't include any of the details I provided them (like information about the credit card that was opened without my kowledge). It has increased my insurance rates, plunged my credit rating, and I still get harassing phone calls as the credit account is passed form collection agency to collection agency. In my case--- since the police report didn't detail anything and they won't update it until the case is officially 'closed', I'm kind of screwed. Maria, I'm so sorry you are going through all this, I had no idea. We'll definitely follow your advice...thanks!

I don't think you're overreacting at all, but... I could be totally wrong, but maybe he wants to get his nose hurt, so he can get surgery and have it fixed right because he is self-conscious?!?

She does mostly weddings and personal photography but used to do a lot of BD and is getting back into it in a big way. I booked the session for May 2008 since my wedding is next September. Alyssa, if you don't mind me asking, what are her prices like? I may contact Mo's photographer, but am still not sure if I'm even doing them. Could you give me more info? Thanks!!!

Did they elaborate on how they knew Mike's identity was stolen? They didn't elaborate at all! They just wanted to inform him that his identity had been "compromised". All of his bills are set up to be automatically deducted from his credit/debit accounts every month, so it's going to be a huge pain to change this, but I guess he needs to.

Last night we got a call from the Atlanta Police Department. A detective told us that Mike's identity was stolen by a group of Nigerian scam artists. I know, it sounds CRAZY, but it's true! We have no idea how this happened. Mike used to fly to Atlanta almost weekly for work, but hasn't been there is probably 2 years; so, I'm guessing it was something over the internet. All day he has been calling his credit card companies, his bank, checking his credit report, etc. So far nothing major has been tampered with. I'm just wondering if any of you or your families/friends have had this happen and what else Mike should do to further protect himself Also, please pray that this doesn't affect his credit. We settle on our house on December 7...ahhh!!!

Wow, that's a really tough situation. Good for the two of you for being the bigger people. I wouldn't be able to do that, I would definitely have gone off on someone by now! If they were friends or other relatives other than immediate family, I would say forget them. But, it is his brother and they were very close til recently. I think you should continue to act the way you are (even if you feel like screaming) and invite them. Otherwise, it will be a source of conflict for the rest of your lives. You cannot avoid them since they are close family and you don't want them and the rest of the family to turn it around and blame it on you and your FI. I'm starting to ramble and talk in circles....I hope you get what I'm saying.

Dear Dad, Why do I think about you at the most random times? I was walking through AC Moore today looking for freaking ribbon and thought "I wish dad was here, he would help so much with this stuff", then I couldn't stop thinking about you and had to hurry and leave the store before I had a breakdown in the aisle! You were so creative and good at this sort of DIY stuff that I'm struggling with now. God, I wish you were here to help me. I've been keeping myself so crazy busy (new job, new house, wedding, reunion, etc etc etc), so I don't have to think of how much I miss you. But at the most random moments, I miss you so much I can't stand it. I love you, Lizz P.S. Thanks BDW forum for having this thread, so I can get this all out and cry for the first time in weeks.

Riu Ocho Rios - Ceremony Location

I am getting married on the beach, no gazebo! -
I think that is sort of odd that you need to pay everything upfront. I personally am just putting down small deposits on things and don't need to pay anything else until I get to the resort. I would be a little uncomfortable paying a full non-refundable amount, especially since you are unsure of the exact number of guests. I don't really have any advice though. If your heart is set on this resort, I guess you need to follow their rules?
