  1. ok i attached all the info from different places...not like it will really help you guys, but it's kinda helping me. i know it's silly to be planning now, but i'm off during the summer, and i start grad school in sept, so i won't have any free time then. leaning toward sushisamba....?? gifts 08.xls

I haven't eaten there in a while but I went for a friends birthday a few years ago and we had so much fun! Also, I second Asia de Cuba (really loved it and been there a few times!)...and I would give a personal thumbs down to Ruby Foo's for a special event. I have eaten at both locations more than once and have never been particularly impressed with my meal. Food's not bad, it's just not especially good and if you're going out and spending money on a birthday that's what you want. Can you give us a general idea of how much you want to ask people to pay for dinner? I know the bottle service fees (bottles being in the $100s) sound outrageous but they're not unheard of and I doubt Buddakan or Asia de Cuba will be much less. Which do you think is more important to your DH? The location or having a private area/bottle service? Because you could probably get a reservation for the group and have them all be responsible for buying their own drinks and still have a large group at the table, or you could find a slightly lesser known place that's not as expensive and take the whole place over (more of less). Personally I think either way you go it's win-win, just depends on the expectations your DH and your crowd have for the evening. I get the same feeling about Ruby Foo's...just kinda eh. I tried Spice Market, they're too expensive. I just emailed Planet Thai and tried to get in touch w/ Chop Suey, but the email was just returned, so I'll have to call. The problem is that i'm not asking anyone to pay anything - i'm paying for it. SO, i'd like to find a place that's around $100ish/pp including drinks. i was going to take over savorNY, but i don't think that dh would like it as much b/c he likes the tao atmosphere. ruby foo's was $95pp, incl. open bar for 3 hrs, and a 3 or 4 course meal. there's another place called kion lounge, which looks interesting and has good reviews on yelp, but can't get in touch w/ the guy, which isn't a good sign. i think i need to make an excel spreadsheet to see what i have, tho i've deleted the more $$ emails. if i can keep the number of ppl to 14, then i can do tao, but it can go up to 20, 22, so i don't want to chance it. i'd like to spend no more than $2100-$2300 incl. tax, gratuities, etc. please keep them coming!
  3. mine was pearls and swarovski crystals, custom made from etsy. the sellers are in my review, in my siggy.
  4. idk, i'm into these suggestions too. i was on bc forever and now have real cramps. last night, i was awake for hours because i could actually feel my left ovary releasing an egg. i wanted to scream!!!!!!
  5. i had a shower and told my mil to ONLY invite ppl invited to the wedding. i (personally) thought it was a tacky way of asking for gifts if i invited ppl to the shower w/o a wedding invitation.
  6. i'm open to anything, but if he had a choice, it would be pan asian or small plate/tapas kind of places. mexican doesn't really do anything for him, and neither of us love italian (i know, i know....) i have to run out now, but i'll look up planet thai when i get home... keep the ideas rolling!
  7. well, i had it narrowed down to 2 places. we went to one, and it was good, but there are so many places in nyc that i probably wouldn't go back. the 2nd would be a rented out place, but knowing dh, he'd want a party atmosphere, and be able to hear loud electronic music while eating. buddakhan, buddha bar, asia de cuba, wakiya, tao, etc. all too expensive once drinks are added on (i want open bar, or open wine for the amount of time we're there, 3 hrs-ish)...so back to square one... so.....where are my ny peeps? anyone ever been to: ruby foo's uptown? ruby foo's times square? megu? sushisamba? any info about atmosphere, music, crowd would be great. food and drink are mostly covered by reviews, but i need to know all the other stuff...tiaa!
  8. i just read the rules and whatnot, and i think i may email all of my girlfriends to see if they'd be interested!
  9. wow, sounds like a rollercoaster of a week!!!! i hope in the end, you had a great time - and hey - you're married! congrats girl!
  10. what resort is it? if it's just a symbolic ceremony, there should be no problems.
  11. sorry you're going through this....imho, he needs to put the kabosh on this asap. he needs to tell his mom that he's not getting married w/o her, he's just doing paperwork w/o her. it's not trashy, it's taking precautions to make sure that you actually ARE legally married w/o getting stuck w/ a needle in mexico, it's less of a hassle, yadda yadda. plus, he should lay the "it's what i want, don't you want me to be happy" guilt trip on her. taking care of this is his responsibility at this point - not yours until you're married. again, jmho...good luck!
  12. our resort was perfect for what we wanted. our guests are still talking about how perfect it was. the only thing i would change is the location, lol, from pv, which is alllllll the way on the west coast, to cancun or somewhere else on the east coast. the flight was long and more $$ b/c it was so far away. it's something i didn't even consider when we were researching. that being said, it would have been a completely different experience on the east coast.
  13. um. software? no. shoes? yes. (sorry no suggestions!)
  14. when we were going to do the legal thing in pv, we were told 48 hrs, but had to be there on a wednesday b/c that's when the dr. was there, and when we could watch the video on getting married (?? i know!!!). so if were were getting married on a sat., we'd have to be there 4 days in advance. it was just easier to do the legal thing at home quietly. from this, i understood that each resort does it differently...which makes me think that each resort charges a different amount for the legal stuff as well.
  15. i think it's a great idea to show it on his boutineer (sp?), esp if he was close to his grandfather.

Congrats to all of you LIZZ congrats!!!!!!!!!!!! i knew something was up with you - you hadn't been posting as much! YAY!!!!
  17. for my shower, i got printed ones from vistaprint w/ an orange gerbera daisy on the front w/ the words thank you. for the wedding, we did a pic card. if you don't want to do pictures, you could always find a cool pic of a hibiscus and call it a day! (btw, i always think of you whenever i see a hibiscus, or the word hibiscus, lol)
  18. i don't have much to lose, so i'm not in this time around - i know i wouldn't win! good luck everyone!!
  19. ainsleigh is gorgeous! are you changing her clothes like every 2 min to get a picture? i had a friend who would change clothes every time she changed a diaper for the first few months just to get a pic! congrats again!
  20. i picked mine b/c one of my bms already had the dress from another wedding. i barely know the other girl, so i didn't care what she thought. all 3 bms have worn it since, which makes me happy. doesn't hurt to have a conversation. who would actually say "yes, i mind"??
  21. congratulations!!! my colleague just went thru this (well not the wedding, travel, and dress part, but the unknown pregnancy part). she said it nearly impossible to not go into every pharmacy to pick up a pregnancy test on a daily basis. she's now 4 months pregnant. is it possible to move the date up? i'm sure that thinking about that on top of everything else is causing more stress, but everything will fall into place, and whatever decision you make, your guests will understand.
  22. looks like you had a ton of fun!
