happy birthday!!!!!

i finished in one day. i made appts. at 4 places, each 2 hrs apart. some i showed up early, and the last one i didn't even go to b/c i found my dress at the third. if you find your dress that first day, don't buy it immediately. take some time to think, look online to price match, decide if it's THE dress. don't nix any dresses. if you want strapless and the attendant brings out halter, try it...b/c what do you have to lose - 5 min? i was never nudies in the store. my mom or the attendants were always right there to zip/tie me, and the attendant put the dresses back on the rack.

red gives me headaches, so i only drink white in bulk like jaime, i like anything australian or new zealand. my favorite cheap wine is monkey bay sauvignon blanc - i think the chardonnay is icky tho. we rarely buy a bottle that's more than $14.99, so keep those cheap choices coming!

So my bad turns to worse...(another long vent post)
1elephant replied to twinkletoes's topic in Just venting or funnies
wow... i went to a wedding this past weekend, and in the program, there was a page of people who couldn't attend the wedding, either because they had passed or because they lived too far away. if there are other people to honor, maybe this is a good way to go? and/or getting the other flower girl a locket or bouquet frame to put somewhere as she walks down the aisle. -

Different Guestbook Help Needed Please!!
1elephant replied to Mrs D To Be!'s topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
my mil did this for my shower, but cheaped out and bought "shapley" markers instead of sharpies. everyone's fingers smudged all of the writing - which was actually ok b/c i didn't want it to begin w/. so note to you: use sharpies or the markers it comes w/! my assumption is that it comes in a box, so bringing it down there wouldn't be a problem, and you can just wrap it really well in your carryon for the way home. -

i remember reading something about this...i think it was just a 9 x 11 (or so) wipe off board from target or staples. you could also find some nice, light colored craft paper, but if you'll have black and white pics, i guess it doesn't matter. -

I don't know how everyone else does it, but when we go out for someone's b-day we pay for our own portion and we usually all chip in for the person whose b-day it is. But since your throwing him the party I would think your guests would just expect to pay their own portion. They will def be shocked to find that you paid for it all. Places like the ones you are looking at are super expensive. I don't think anyone would expect you to foot the entire bill. it'll be 15-20 people now...$100 would be perfect, sit down dinner, drinks for at least 2 hours. there's no rock (to say you rock) so i sent a chinese takeout box instead, lol....keep me posted! dh is the first one in his group to celebrate turning 30. his friend has a party every year and gets a few bottles for a few hours and that's it, but he's 27. i bet when he's 30 he'll celebrate in a bigger way.

Sushi Samba is good (all locations) but it is kind of small. But I think your friends would def like it. Its a good vibe there. I personally do not like Ruby Foo's. My food there has always been "eh". I wouldn't recommend it. Megu is awesome but its also expensive. Buddha Bar and Budhakon are great too but again pricey. I also love Asia De cuba. I think whichever one you go with will be great! *edited* I wanted to add that Koi is pretty good too. GLENDA - i'd LOVE LOVE LOVE if you could call your friend!!!!! omg, it would be the BEST gift ever...SO much better than a random restaurant. let me know what details you need. i would owe you MAJORLY...seriously, i'm totally in love with you right now we loved nobu when we went, but for some reason, dh loved tao more... megu turns out to be $100/pp for 3 hrs open bar and dinner. add tax and tip, and we're talking $2200 for 15 ppl. our party should be between 15-20, but i'm hoping to stay closer to 15. Son cubano doesn't play electronica really.. they play a mix of everything.. I think Cielo (in meatpacking also) does.. but you'd have to call to confirm.. it's funny, i don't think his friends would ever expect me to pay, but i hear his mom in the back of my head saying "shouldn't it be private? shouldn't you do this? shouldn't you ...?"

Is anyone else out there scared about the economy?

Wedding Party Gift Ideas
1elephant replied to Ellipse22's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
ohhh, i like the tiffany luggage tag! what about a travel bag? something to throw toiletries in...they can use it again and again! -
yeah, i'd have the coordinator or whoever not start those 2-3 hrs until we got there, b/c it's a surprise and guests will be there before us. hopefully we'd be done eating w/in those 2-3 hrs (3 hrs at megu, 2 at stanton social), and then go to the bar or somewhere else. i need to make it clear to his friends that i'm not paying for them all night. i wouldn't ask them to chip in, but worse comes to worse, if we're still sitting there, i can make sure the waiters know to tell guests that the open bar is closed. if i were going out to dinner for someone else's bday, i wouldn't expect them to pay for dinner, so that would be a bonus for me. i could even put it on the e-vite....hrm.... megu tribeca has better reviews than midtown. tribeca has 4-5 stars on yelp, whereas midtown has 2-3. however, i just found out there is a room fee, even if it's not private...which makes no sense to me... i'll go check out son cubano. what kind of music is it? dh is into electronica/paul van dyke, but something tells me that's not what's played there (not like it matters, we can go elsewhere afterward). EDIT: at son cubano, a dj starts at 11:30, so that would be interesting if we're still there then...i just emailed the contact, and asked if it's possible to have a large group w/o renting out their private room. there is no room fee for megu if i eat in the main dining. so let's say you get an invite for a party...would YOU expect to pay for dinner? drinks? would you be surprised if you were in the main dining area with other patrons rather than in your own room? (would you be surprised if you knew i was on a teacher's salary )...while i may need to cut some corners, i would just HATE for it to look tacky in any way.

Quick way to lose 7-8 lbs for dress fitting
1elephant replied to msasfraz's topic in Beauty, Exercise, Diet
imho, any diet that says you'll lose a certain amt of pounds in a certain amount of days without really changing your lifestyle is a diet that ensures you'll gain the weight back within a few days. that's why i love ww - it's a change of lifestyle, rather than a crash diet. i did the sacred heart diet to get over a plateau that i had reached at ww, and lost 5 lbs. i've kept most of it off b/c i have a relatively healthy lifestyle (relatively being the operative word). if i had gone back eating junk, i would have gained it back and then some. btw, you need to bitch slap the seamstress. i like what harty said - tell him that you can lose a few but he'll always be ugly. -

Anyone use a wedding planner?

I know April is a busy time for weddings, and I'm anxious about getting all the things I really want, especially since they have more than 1 wedding per day :S. from my experience, and from what i've read on here, a lot of the wcs are really bad about getting back to you until your wedding is like a month away. mine was really lackadaisical until about a month before. i also lit a fire under her ass by having my ta call her boss. i would see if anyone else responds about your specific wc, and then look into it - is the peace of mind worth the money? you may want to ask a mod to move this to mexico forum - it may get more responses there. -
anyone been to megu? if i can get the chick to agree to my final price, i'm going there. stanton social is my 2nd choice, and i'll pay for 2 hrs of open bar. is that tacky? only paying for 2 hrs? i want to make menus and i guess i'll include it somehow (open bar from 9-11) but don't want ppl to be like "wtf, she can't pay for 3 hrs?"...don't think they would, as they're his friends, not his mom's, lol. btw, if you like tapas, go to the divine bar. went there for my bachelorette dinner and it was SO good.
