  1. here's a link to the article: Should you be invited to my wedding? - CNN.com and here's the quiz: Here are 10 questions couples can use to trim that guest list and weed out the people you really don't want at your wedding. 1) Name the city I'm living in now (Good one to weed folks out, especially if you have moved a lot. Don't use this if you've lived in the same place for 10 years). 2) Name at least two of my closest friends. 3) Name my current employer and my past employer (Again, if you've remained in the same job for 15 years, this does not apply). 4) Do I have any kids? 5) Do you know the name of my fiancé? Bonus question: Where and when did we meet? 6) Do you know where my parents are and whether they are still alive? (Imagine a friend at your wedding asking how long have your parents been married when they divorced years ago). 7) Name at least two of my hobbies. How old am I? (My favorite is when family friends would query, 'Are you 28 now?" Imagine their surprise when I proclaimed, 'yeah, 10 years ago!') 9) Where did I go to college? (Some people might not remember whether you attended college or even graduated.) 10) Name my last boyfriend before this engagement. Bonus question: if you can name the last two and why we broke up. If you get the bonus question right, that might automatically get you in. Scoring helps determine whether you get invited. If you score 50 percent or below, you definitely are not getting invited. If you score barely over 50 percent, you are on the waiting list. If someone who scored better than you cannot attend, you might get an invitation. This barely acceptable person who might be invited may get you a great gift because of their guilt for scoring so low. If you score over 60 percent, you get an invitation. Now, you don't have to be as extreme as I would love to be and send these questions with the save the date card. However, imagine if, over the course of your engagement, you pitch these questions to a few prospective guests just to see how they do. In the end, what matters most is a beautiful wedding day and a sustained marriage. Wouldn't you like to celebrate it with loved ones who are invested in your past and present in addition to your future? Plus, it will help you avoid the embarrassing introduction of your new husband to someone who didn't even realize until that moment that you didn't marry your college sweetheart, whom you haven't seen in 15 years! idk how you'd ask ppl these questions, but i'd probably make educated guesses about whether ppl knew the answers or not. according to this quiz, 1/2 the ppl i invited shouldn't have been invited!
  2. i didn't read thru this whole thread, so i apologize if this has already been posted: Decapitation suspect appears in court - CNN.com
  3. hello bored bdw-ers ok i need some kind of monogram for dh's 30th bday. i'm going to make menus and i want them to be on the front. i'm not terribly good at monograms, and even if i were, i can't do it on this computer b/c i don't have any good programs...dh's computer has the good ones, but it's a surprise! so here's what i need, if anyone is bored and willing to help. something that says 'keith's 30th birthday' or 'keith's 30th' or 'keith is old'. the date of his party is 11/22/08 in nyc, but his actual bday is 11/16. he's a minimalist, modern, etc. our wedding monogram is in my avatar. any takers? tia!
  4. they made one (in her shoes, maybe?) into a bad movie. i hate movies of books. other than harry potter....
  5. YAY an A! that can lift some weight off your shoulders. you're not a freshman, so don't worry about the prof not caring - it's done!
  6. oh that's a good one laura! i think she has a new one out too. i just finished baby proof by emily giffin (something borrowed, and something blue) and it was good also.
  7. welcome! we were engaged and married w/in 7 months. it's possible! i'd start looking for a dress asap b/c if you have luck like mine, it'll take 5 months to come in!
  8. amy, they look awesome!!! i LOVE the one where andy picked you up and you're laughing.

I think i will get a cake-but just a store one-maybe with a wedding pic on it like they can do? I really havent decided. We get back from the DW on Aug 12th and the ahr is the 16th-so I have a few days to shop and order a cake! YIKES! jen, if you're a costco or sam's member, you can get good, inexpensive cakes there. you can also order now for the 16th, although you can do that at any bakery too.
  10. my dress was kinda custom-made - they did a hollow to hem measurement and made the dress for my height and measurements. i still spent $250 on alterations b/c i needed the bustle done (3 buttons), cups sewn in, and needed the bust and bodice taken in a bit. my dress was less than $500 too.
  11. i didn't use them but i'm jealous that you are! they do spectacular work, but were out of my budget.
  12. dear sherry, i think you should cut and paste what you wrote into an email to your fsil. lauren
  13. she said 'jidges' a few times this season, but not often. there was a huge article about her in entertainment magazine last week - they said she's one of the more well-loved reality tv hosts. i didn't really like her until this season. i just realized where i was during the finales. last year i was in maine and the year before i had just moved and didn't have a tv set up yet.
  14. i didn't have an ahr, but i'll tell you what i would have done if i did. i would have had someone videotape the toasts and whatnot and played them for everyone. there's something about hearing speeches a 2nd time that makes them sound ingenuine. we prob would have had the 1st dances again, and cut the cake again. but for the most part, i'd consider it a big party where i'm wearing a beautiful party dress.

  16. how are they doing the finale? whoever gets the most votes out of the 4 of them? i dont think i've ever see the finale....i don't know why tho......
  17. andrea, it's AWESOME! dh has no less than 10,000 songs on an external hard drive, and we can listen to that as well. it also comes w/ internet radio. once sonos and sirius paired up, we were able to get rid of one sirius account - idk if it's bc you pay per month on sonos or what tho - dh takes care of that. we have speakers in our bedroom, the upstairs bathroom, the landing, the dining room and the basement (so 4 zones b/c the bed/bath is a combo). you can link some zones or all zones. we have 2 controllers - one upstairs and one downstairs, but idk why b/c we only use one. i currently have it playing in the dining room and the bedroom, so no matter what floor i'm on i can hear it.
  18. uh-oh, it's starting already?! whatever, call your brother and tell him the same thing. mention casually that his wife isn't planning on attending b/c she'll be pregnant. pretend to be the nice guy and tell him it's important to you that he's there, but accidents happen and if they can't plan around your wedding they way you planned around his, you'll understand.
  19. hehe, i predicted correctly! i think courtney and twitch stayed b/c of their personalities. they love being on tv and show it much more than chelsea and mark, who both recently began opening up.
  20. and if you don't want kids there, even if they do make exceptions, you don't have to tell anyone!
  21. i don't know about any other state, but in nj, you can add your closing costs into your mortgage so you don't have to pay out of pocket. in the meantime, the lady is ridiculous. if the house has been on for 2 years and you're only the 2nd offer, she should suck it up and take a small hit. i don't know the diff between your offer and her asking price, but a small hit really shouldn't matter at this point.
  22. i agree with the others. and it'll be something you can hold over him next time you want something.
