I would prefer getting charged a room rental fee or a waitstaff fee.

We paid $1000 each for flights & a 1 week stay. we booked last august & prices went up a lot after that. Our guests paid $700-$800 for a 3 night stay after flight prices increased (air, hotel AI, & transfers). Flights were from NC & TX. I do think some of the other hotels on the list are more expensive. The catalonia is $269 per person for a 3 night stay.
  6. I don't care if he wears a ring everyday.
  8. titanium does scratch up, but if you get a brushed one & like the dull look that it shouldn't matter. you can also buy 2 from the place abbie posted. one for work & one to stay pretty.

That said, I knew a couple who were both in the same PhD program as me and they had a baby while in their 3rd year. The girl finished her thesis at year 4 while also teaching a course and looking after her baby and the husband has just completed his now (probably at this point it's his 6th year). I think he took a year off first with the baby. So, my opinion would be it depends a lot on what kind of structure your program has. And if it's like Morgan's, get all the courses and stuff out of the way first, because that's usually the more time-bonkers type of work. yes, that's why i specified science. Course work is such a small part of it. Not that there isn't a ton of pressure, it's just a different structure. It's mentally harder than undergrad, but I could see balancing family life much easier now. if getting a phd was like 7 more years of being an undergrad i'd lose my mind. i think it was the constant deadlines & tests and all night cramming. i've faced harder challenges in grad school, but it doesn't feel the same. my first year when i was taking classes was actually easier, but i was more stressed out because of the fear of unknown. It was overwhelming. now i just think of it as my job. another bonus is that we don't pay tuition & get a stipend to live on. that's another thing that would help with starting a family. can you talk to other phd students in the program? Her program may not allow taking a break. Mine doesn't. well there is a 1 year leave of absense, but most people who do that are dropping out. if they do come back they probably have to start over when they do. the thing that keeps me positive is knowing that if it ever got that bad I could just leave with my masters & I'd be fine with that. nothing is worth being miserable for years. i did that when i was younger. i'm not willing to put happiness on hold anymore.

Then I would have seven fabulous years to defend my dissertation if I so chose to do so! I agree with you FutureMrsB that if I put off children now for education (that is ultimately for career-- so, for career I should say), I will continue to do so. Besides the fact that I SOOOOO want a baby SOON!!! I want a PhD too though. :-) These perspectives help, thank you, thank you! Getting through the phd process would be so hard if I felt like I was putting my life on hold. I'll be 27 too next week, but I always planned on having kids between 30 & 35. So I'm not waiting because I'm getting a phd.
  12. I'd find someone new. Having the freedom to make my own photobooks & order my own prints was really important to me. you have time to find someone new. if you really like them, try to negotiate the contract.

So, are you saying in your science phd, you would have a baby (if you were ready now)? or, it depends on the field? I'm getting a phd in genetics. it's very different than being in school. It's much more like a full time job. We had classes the first year & after that it's lab work. So having a baby now would not be much different than having one while I had a job. I've seen many students do it & as long as their advisor is supportive it works out fine. but, other phd programs are different. I guess I shouldn't have said science because that includes so much. Lab research science.
  14. I bought these codes to make stickers of a wedding picture to seal our announcements. I am no longer doing announcements. If you want them, I'll PM you the codes that you can put into your snapfish account. they expire july 31st. If no one wants them, I'm sure I can come up with some use for them.
  15. what field are you in? If I was ready to have a kid now, i'd do it while in grad school. I'm getting a phd in science & it's more like a job than being in school.
  16. we didn't have a wedding party. I just called my girls honorary BMs & made them a little gift. I'm very happy with how it worked out.
  17. many have special pricing for DWs. It mostly depends on if they are getting their start in DWs, how interested they are in going to the location, and the time of year.
  18. some hotels give you a free reception with a certain number of guests or allow you to have a semi-private dinner in one of the hotel restuarants. we had few enough guests that we just had a dinner in a hotel restaurant. it worked out great.
  19. I wouldn't be worried about the rain. there is much more to a hurricane than that. Look back at some of the old posts last august when there was a hurricane heading to the area & decide if you are willing to deal with that kind of risk. i don't think you can guess the best time of day to not have rain. just look for a hotel that has an indoor option. If you have never experienced a hurricane you might want to reconsider.

  21. use a TA, but get a different one since this isn't working out.
  22. I hope when you get there you are able to forget about this terrible week & have an amazing time!
  23. yes, you just need more points. it's 50 per item you download. i do have to warn that template is complicated. i made it in a weird way & it was hard to figure out a way to share it. to earn points, just be active. saying hello to all the noobs is an easy way to get involved.
  24. you can also fly someone in. or pay the $500 fee to bring in your own photographer. i think that is there current policy. If photography is very important to you, you might want to look outside of EDR. I don't know about those companies in particular, but most of the hotel photographer companies are not impressive. The ones at my hotel may not have even been photographers. I think they were just the staff member that was incharge of holding the camera for the day. They had pictures displayed in the lobby.
