  4. all of our guests in mexico knew we were legally married. i don't think anyone cared. if they did they covered it well. i told some people & then my brother announced it on the van ride back from coba. thanks bro

Luckily, they have a second home here, in the town where we live, and can stay here....well, until my FIL has to go back to work. Almost 2 million people are w/o power and most gas stations have NO gas....they are advising to not use the water or to boil it since there is not much water left on the shelves in the storm. Downtown Houston is far from Galaveston and a lot of the buildings had their windows blown out. Most of the area is advising residents to not return and the ones that are there are on curfew. What I saw earlier there is only 1 death as of now being reported in Galveston...not sure about the surrounding areas. We were watching the Weather Channel last night and the weather guy got knocked down by the winds...it was crazy. Geraldo Rivera also got knocked down by the waves. They are estimated $18billion of damage....40 homes in Seaside are completely gone....and most restaurants and a lot of homes in Galveston are gone too. In all, if there are no more lives lost, I think the property damage is a blessing. Could have been WAY worse. I haven't heard of any reported deaths in galveston. I had only heard about the 19year old near corpus that fell into the water. but I googled & found this A woman was killed in her sleep when a tree fell on her home near Pinehurst, Texas, in Montgomery County. A 19-year-old man slipped off a jetty near Corpus Christi and was apparently washed away. Terrebonne Parish coroner senior investigator Gary Alford says a 16-year-old boy drowned in his house in Bayou Dularge, La., when he fell through wooden pallets used as flooring and floodwaters rose. Mr. Alford also said a 57-year-old man died from a broken neck after he was blown over by wind. I haven't heard from my brother. i hope the house he just bought in spring isn't damaged. my friend that lives in houston near the medical center has water damage in her apartment. I also haven't gotten a detailed report from our family in texas city. i know they are all safe, but I don't know how mucht he town is damaged.
  7. ok it's good to see that it isn't sucking points from people. we've had issues with pictures uploaded using the mountain icon. it's safest to still delete them. then get this free software Screen Capture and Print Screen software you just press the print screen button & you get a screen capture. the pic will be in your my docs--> print screen files.
  8. you are not supposed to upload pictures that way. everytime someone views your thread they pay you 50 points per pic now. if vista print will not let you save the image, you have to do a screen capture. if you have a mac you should already have the software. if you have a PC you can get a free program online called gadwin printscreen. it's really easy to use. go to the edit box on your post & delete those pics ASAP (even though they are not showing up).
  9. martha should be fine. she may not have even gotten any rain. my mom is closer to where the storm hit & they didn't get anything. mike's family is fine. there was a lot of destruction around them, but their house is fine. the houses across the lake from them are very messed up. they had trees fall through the house. we haven't heard from my brother in houston. his power is probably out.
  10. wear anything you want. when we did our legal stuff, mike had to go witness for another couple who didn't know they needed 2. it was pretty funny. we could hear him through the wall stating his name. have fun! legal day is great. it was one of the perks of a DW. a simple little wedding for just us two.

  12. i haven't gotten an update. I'll know more in the morning.
  13. i agree- the video footage looks positive. the flimsy roof on the pool bar looks perfect & the trees look good.
  14. i just talked to mike's dad. his mom evacuated, but her parents stayed behind. so mike's dad stayed with them. their house is very sturdy so only a tornado or flood should create a problem. their town is the only in the area that didn't have mandatory evacuation. i'm just waiting...

I am so relieved! This hurricane is gonna be bad. I will keep the Houston girls and Morgan's family in my prayers! oh, they are right by galveston. I'm going to leave work now so i can call them. I hate hurricanes! I'm a ball of nerves.

  17. I think eventually we'll have satalite imaging as soon as a storm hits so you can see the damage ASAP. I actually thought that technology was around already but it looks like it was just done after katrina. the technology exists, it just isn't being done yet. but it will be nice once is available. right now I'm supressing my nerves, but i won't be OK until after ike hits & I can find out how our family is doing. right now we are just waiting, knowing the storm will hit but we have no real idea of how it will go. the worst is when the power gets knocked out, phone lines are down & you can get intouch with anyone. I know how hard it is to wait, hoping for the best but worrying about the worst. but what I've learned from my experiences is that what helps me the most is to distract myself as much as possible until I can learn the truth. It really makes me sick how the media flys people into these areas just to sensationalize it. and then they are all reporting the same thing over & over. if they'd just drive their cameras around & show the main parts of town that would be so much mroe helpful to people worried. That's why I'm so excited about the day that we can just go online & zoom in on an area.
  18. there are things on the vbplaza that we really can't buy. I tried a bunch of stuff just to see what it was. this forum is built on a template so some of the options don't really apply. if the mods think it would be helpful they will stick it up.
  19. yep, i didnt pay commission either. she was paid from funjet. but even if i booked funjet myself on their website, id pay the same but funjet keeps the commission part.

She wasn't taking it easy (I called her one day and she had made 4 pies!) and there for not healing properly so we moved her into assisted living about a month ago! She is in heaven!!! The place is brand new, she picked out some new furniture, and best of all she has daily companionship with other gals while still having some privacy in her little apartment. My mom and I went and picked out a lift chair for her and decorated her bathroom with beachy "shell" decor and she was so excited! SO cute. I am so bummed that she cannot come to the wedding because she loves to have sand between her toes! But so thankful to have her in my life and that I can call her up to gossip anytime. I am going to see her in two weeks, but until then I am working on putting pictures on a digital picture frame for her. I am plannning on sending her USBs with new pictures everyonce in awhile... maybe the other grandkids can too! Thanks Morgan! ohh, i love this idea. i ordered some pictures from my brother's wedding last night to send grandma. she doesn't have internet to see my pictures so I try to mail some occasionally. my grandma also had to miss the wedding. i planned a coba trip with her in mind because she wanted to see the jungle & they have bike taxis there. she had back surgery 6 months before the wedding & was not feeling up to it. I made her this little book & mailed it before the wedding. I'm working on a photobook of wedding pics for her now. I also added a videographer once she canceled her trip so she could see the wedding. http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t17392 I also sent her a photobook of our e-pics. she took it with her everywhere she went. my brother was married in august & grandma was able to make it to that wedding. I was a BM & wore some new shoes that were killing my feet. I wasn't in the mood to dance, but had to atleast dance one song. my grandma watched us the whole time smiling. she said it made her so happy to see us dancing in our marriage. after that I had to tough it out & dance a few more times. here is grandma & mom at my brother's rehersal dinner

The rumors are still running rampant as the photos you are going to see are of destruction...News organizations aren't going to show pretty resorts with minor cosmetic damage. Continue checking with your travel agent...if the hotel is saying minor damage, it usually is the case. As for trees/vegetation...with the amount of rain we have received, Plants get back to normal very quickly. It was the Trip Advisor forums that many were stating the resorts were gone as well. I had my husband take photos of many of the resorts and the beach less than 24 hours after the storm before the beach clean up...people still are questioning that they are real based on everything else the news is reporting...I know they are real...but now we are having to fight a greater economic disaster because the news organizations want drama. Have faith and fingers crossed all is okay. Krys This is what our resort area looked like less than 24hours after ike had passed http://blog.tropicalimaging.com/2008...rovidenciales/ The news organizations report otherwise! wonderful post! yes, the media finds the place with the worst damage & shows you that. remember the lady rowing around in a boat in a puddle of water? the report from PRDO I posted from their headquarters sounded very promising.

I was pulling a plastic container out of the cupboard to use and noticed her initials written on it "ST". She was so funny about making sure no one took off with her stuff . So she wrote her initials on a lot of things! It made me smile seeing her initials and handwriting and also thinking that she's probably pretty happy i'm using her container. It might sound ridiculous, but something like that would make her smile. She hated anything being wasted . When she was with us one of my favorite things to do for her was to write her a letter, a poem, or call her to talk about All My Children! my grandpa wrote his last name on everything. huge with a black marker. my brother does the same because it reminds him of grandpa. this thread makes me smile
