  1. even if you are not paying money, it's still a good idea to have a contract.
  2. the forum is doing that weird thing again where you cant get to the 2nd page...

  4. for those how put down deposits, do they do video too? i canceled my original photographer & transfered the deposit to a videographer.
  5. Thanks for posting such an honest review. I know it's really hard to do. I was also cracking up at some of the things like your confused guests and your hand in the air. My friend had a terrible wedding photography experience. We mock some of the poses everytime we get together. So we sort of turned a negative into a fun joke. I actually prefer his ceremony shots. I love the dark sky behind you. I feel like a point & shoot camera washes everything out & loses that cool feel of a sunset ceremony. before I learned photography, I was amazed to see how dark the sky looked in some really nice pictures, when the wedding day video showed the sky was much brighter than that.

  7. i posted menus in this thread. they might be out of date. can someone post a recent menu? It's really helpful if everyone shares the info as they get it. They are so overworked at the hotel, so it's much easier to get the information from each other.
  8. OK I found the threads In the last wedding I was in, we all got to pick our style of dress & she picked the color & material. There are so many options in nu-georgette from the brand After 6. Also, Dessy & Alfred Sung are the same material so you can pick from those too. I compiled all the dress options, but there are so many more than this now. http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t21315 My dress was $100 shipped with no tax. To get a price that good, you have to shop around online. I ordered from Chrissy O's. They will beat a competitors price by some %, so I had them price match another store. RK bridal maybe?? It was really easy to do though & the customer service was great. here is a thread about all the online discount dress shops http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t21375 They take about 14 weeks to get to you, so you have to order early. I just compared my measurements to the After 6 size guide. It was a perfect fit. A great thing about a short dress too is that you don't need to adjust the length. My dress was #6505. I really liked it.
  9. Is exactly $100 OK? I'll be right back, but I know I can find you cute BM dresses in orange for $100. Short, right?

I did them without the scrolls for the last event I made them for & I liked that better. I've been using all of my leftover cups when I throw baby showers. each guest gets one with their name. I ran out of rub ons so I just used stickers last time. it was so much easier, but it wont hold up as well. still, it's just for the shower. rub ons are a one time use thing like a sitcker. they come in sheets with many of them.
  11. nude models? you don't sound like you were too happy with your photographer I'm glad to see a USPS international box is only $40. Will that help your problem? he said it takes 6 weeks to get the album from the time it is ordered? he needs a new album company. I got mine in about a week.
  12. vimeo is great for hosting a video online. I think you can upload up to 20 minutes. it's higher quality than youtube too.

I negotiated something a little lower for the day of the wedding. Then we didn't have any guests stay off the hotel. They didn't charge me a day pass for vendors. We only had our videographer coming in. I just told he was coming so he had no issue getting in. Our photographer stayed at the hotel. The catalonia is really great with their vendor policies.
  14. not mandatory as far as I'm concerned. many guests probably want to sleep in too. We had breakfast with some guests, but it was just because they were up & we were up. Then we had a 2nd breakfast a few hours later and ate with some other guests. It was all very casual & we'd just run into each other at the buffet. I didn't want a lot of structure so we could all just relax.
  15. i love it. Two cuddling moose. it's adorable. besides, it's not worth hurting his feelings if you are not really opposed to it.
  16. i think it's almost always a disapointment. most guests will have a digital camera with them and if they didn't bring a camera they are probably not in to taking pictures. I set up a snapfish account for us to all share our pictures in. not everyone did it, but I got enough pictures. It was great to see everyone's different perspectives from the trip. it also made me happy to see everyone having so much fun.
  17. the price of a disc varies dramatically. Some photographers charge over $200 per image. I've seen discs priced over $1000. There are many photographers who would never sell a disc for any amount. I'm surprised he is willing to sell you an unedited disc. Often photographers don't want those getting out at all. a digital picture needs at least a little processing to look it's best. Boudoir needs even more retouching. but, i guess with bodoir he isn't as worried about you uploading unedited pictures to facebook & making his work look bad. Also, you hardly ever get to see all 450 pictures. It's really better that you don't. They take 450 to get the 30-60 that look great. you don't want to see all the throw aways. also, it would take a lot of time to edit 450 pictures. way more time than you'd want to pay for.

I just remember finding people less expensive than the hotel photographer, but not so cheesy. there is a compiled list of cancun/ riviera maya photographers on the forum. if you can't find it, let me know & I'll search.

I was not impressed. It depends on how much you care about photography. I know if I was eloping I'd use that as an opportunity to do some really cool photography after the wedding, because their are no guests to tend to. There are cheaper phtoographers that are better than the hotel's company.
  20. yeah, it looks like the 1 year thing isn't true. Not sure who started that rumor anyway. I had always heard 6 months. If i know the couple had a bunch of big life changes right after the wedding, like a big move or a new job, I usually don't care if the thank you takes a while. Emily Post's Wedding Etiquette, Wedding Wensite Tips Emily post says you have 3-4 months, but ideally you write it the same day. I did my thank yous weekly. I'd just sit down every sunday & write cards for the gifts we got that week. I'm a firm beliver that if you make the time to register for things you can make the time to send thank yous. With all the time so many of us spend planning the little details of a wedding, we can find time to write thank you cards. it's not fun, but I think it's so important.
  21. I don't think I've ever heard of sending thank you cards to everyone that attended a wedding. It's not considered a rule, but I got a thank you card for being a BM once. It arrived a week or two after the wedding & meant a lot to me. I saved it. I can't remember if I sent our guests thank you cards. I know I sent thank yous for all gifts and cards right away. I think I did a thank you email to all the guests when we returned from mexico with a link to see some pictures. There was also a thank you letter in the OOT bags we gave them when they arrived. I think that does the trick of saying "thanks for coming."
