  1. great, i'll check that out for NC. I love doing anything online I can to avoid driving, parking & waiting.
  2. If guest have to keep them on, I might let my guest know this in advance so they can bring a thick bracelet to cover it if they want. I might bring one for me just incase getting it cut off itsn't easy.
  3. So it takes 2 steps? You can't just go to the courthouse & do it in one day? These are the things I wanted to make sure I knew. I wouldn't want to show up the day before we fly out & learn this.
  4. Thanks. I did that google & it looks like we just have to go see a magistrate at the courthouse. I also read to being cash. Its about $50. I just wanted to make sure signing the paperwork here before we go wouldn't be difficult before I put a deposit for my wedding in mexico.
  5. I just realized that before I reserve my wedding date, I should make sure I know how this works. I have decided to just get legally married here before leaving and then have a ceremony in Mexico. Do you just go down to the courthouse & sign something a week or two before we leave? We are living in North Carolina, but were born in Texas. I don't know if the rules vary by state. Who do I call? My county courthouse? My hotel requires that you get there 5 days in advance for a legal ceremony. I want more time after the wedding, but I don't want to stay in mexico over 7 days. That is one of the main reasons why I decided to get married at home.
  6. I was trying to figure out all the details & decided to just make it legal at the courthouse before we go & have a ceremony in mexico. My hotel would require that we get there 5 days in advance for a civil ceremony! There is a lot of work to be done to have a legal ceremony, but there are a lot of great people on this forum who can help you with it.
  7. Sunrise, Sunset Calendars and Local Time You can chose a custom city if your location is not on the list. They have Cancun under custom. It then makes a calendar of the month you chose. I might stick this info in the OOT bags. I think it would be fun to gather at the beach to watch the sun rise or set. Its also useful for deciding when to schedule your wedding time.
  8. It was great that it fit us. We went to the UK & France in March. I thought for sure we'd get engaged in some romantic location on the trip. Once we were there, I was so glad we didn't get engaged. It just wasn't us. We were so busy being tourist that it just wouldn't have been right. My WC should be at work now. I'm calling Mexico again. I really want this set. They answered the phone in spanish & that got me super excited about being in Mexico next year!
  9. Mike & I moved to North Carolina 3 years ago so I could go to grad school at Duke. Our favorite thing to do in North Carolina is hiking. We moved from South Texas where it is really flat so the moutains here amaze me. I love being on top & looking at the view. So it was perfect that Mike proposed to me on top of a moutain with an amazing view. His mom & sisters came out to see us for a vacation. We took them hiking on a moutain called Max Patch, right off the Appalacian trail. Its a bald moutain, so you have a 360 degree view on the top. Before we got to the top, his mom said she wanted to rest so just Mike & I kept going up. On the way up he proposed. It was great that we had that moment private, but they were there afterwards to celebrate with. This was June 21, 2007 which is why I really want to get my wedding date reserved for June 21, 2008. Hopefully I get that confirmed soon. I can't insert a picture without it being huge. The picture in my avatar is from that day.
  10. I just had an idea for a group activity for us girls on a budget. Instead of a sunset cruise, what about inviting everyone to meetup on the beach about 30minutes before sunset? I will be trying to work with the hotel provided entertainment as much as possible because I can not spend a lot of money on this wedding.
  11. An idea to save on the ipod is to buy an older model. I bought the B&W screen ipod when the color ones came out on amazon. It was $200 instead of $400. We also got a great deal on the bose sound dock 2 years ago. It is wonderful, I just feel bad that I don't use it all the time. I usually play music off my computer. If you are doing the ipod option, start early setting up itunes. If your music isn't already in the format for itunes it can take a while to get it organized.
  12. I like how you can tell if a hotel has a good beach. I also enjoy being able to see whats nearby. I found a golf course behind our hotel, a lagoon a short walk away, a marina right by us, & more! More addictive than google earth is zillow.com. Its google earth with real estate prices on each house
  13. Thanks! Our hotel is really close to that marina. What do you think "# Pax Max" means? Capt Ricks Sport Fishing Center Mexico- Reservation Fish Charter Then it says "max. 5 anglers per 31' boat." Do you think 3 people get to ride & 5 fish?
  14. The mayan encounter does look like fun. And there is a zip line, but I won't have to ride a bike!
  15. Thanks! I'll look it up & add it to the list. Currently I am looking at Paamul Bay for snorkling & scuba diving. I just found out its a very close walk from my hotel.
  16. Puerto Aventuras north photo tour, aerial images I am having so much fun with this map feature. Some of the names are out of date for the hotels. You can locate your hotel & then scroll down to see what is around it on the beach.
  17. Mine was $70! I think one of the great things about a beach wedding is the option to wear a shorter, simpler dress. I've never wanted to wear the fancy gown so its perfect for me. I can even wear it again later (unless I trash it which my mom says I'm forbidden from doing.) I think how much is too much to spend depends on you. If you don't feel comfortable with spending another $800, don't do it. You can find a dress you absolutly love for what you want to pay.
  18. I thought of another thing- ATVs through the jungle. I will have some guest who would be really interested in that.
  19. I read mixed reviews about Xel-ha. Some people says its wonderful, others say its crowded & you can find better snorkling for less money. Maybe it depends on the season or day. I thought I'd put it on the list for people iterested, but I figured I'd go snorkling at Yal Ku lagoon instead. I have not been to either of these places which is why feedback is great. I have only been to Cancun. I was 17 & all I wanted to do was buy T-shirts, drink at the hotel bar & go to Senor frogs. This time around I want an adventure! Has anyone done the zip lines? All the excursions I could find involved bike riding. I fell off a bike in high school & haven't been on one since. I think I should learn to ride again so I can do the zip line.
  20. I am working on my things to do section on my website. Anyone have suggestions? Also, if you know of a better company to do these excursions with, let me know. So far I have this: zip line Alltournative | Mayan Zip Line Xcaret Cancun Mexico - Xcaret Park Eco Archaeological Theme Park natural Cancun tour Xel-ha Riviera Maya Mexico Xel-Ha Ecological Water Theme Park yal ku lagoon Akumal Direct Reservations: Snorkeling, Scuba Diving and Eco-Tours tulum deep sea fishing Diving the Cenotes scuba diving cenotes playa del carmen shopping in playa del carmen golf in puerto aventuras (across from our hotel)
  21. I like the idea of getting antibiotics before going though just incase I need them. I'll check with my doctor & see if I can get some. I used to test drinking water for bacteria. You'd be surprised how filthy some people's well water is. They drink it all the time & never get sick. Its the stuff your not normally exposed to that can make you sick.
