New banners?
rodent replied to Jacilynda's topic in Bugs, issues or "how to" navigate forum questions.
hmm, i guess my theory about alphabetical isn't right. I see an "s" now with a banner. i love a good BDW mystery. -
Catalonia Riviera Maya

looks like your post got moved to this thread. if you read through this thread you'll see we all had trouble setting the date. You do have to wait if you are doing a legal ceremony. The judge only schedules so far in advance. If youa re doing symbolic, you can schedule earlier, but it's still hard to get on the books. it takes persistence. Read through this thread & you'll get all the info you need. Welcome! -

sometimes the green circle means the person is online. do you see a pattern there? although I'm pretty sure once I've seen a blue one it was always blue & didn't change. want to give me a negative rep & we can see what happens? -

i think they might be going in alphabetical order. -

we are so easily excited I'm anxiously awaiting my banner. jacilynda, winning member of the month usually removes your custom title. At least it did for me. It's only gone while the banner is there. it comes back after the month is up. Well, for me it came back as the generic member name & then I had to change it to something fun. -
Thanks everyone! It did fly by.

All of Morgan's wedding stuff

I've been thinking of suggesting this, too. I also think a section for the wedding months would be nice. Currently people start threads like "April 09 brides." But, there could be a section for these posts & the posts might already be set up so people can jump right in.

I agree with all that has been said. I think it's wrong and since the TA reads this forum I hope this encourages her to stop doing that. And why the best man & MOH? does that mean the other bridesmaids are paying an extra $50 each so the MOH travels for free? Not fair! As far as taking the free flights or free room accumulated from booking so many people, I think that is completely fine. I've also heard of prices dropping $10-$20 and the TA credited the couple with that money instead of each guests. Our prices dropped about $10, but our TA credited that to each guest. If it went to us we would have turned around & given it back to the guests be adding something for them to the trip. We probably would have covered lunch at the group excursion with that extra money. I would feel like it needs to be something that goes directly to the guest, not extra flowers or something like that.

I don't think there is a way to negatively rep someone & if there was no one would EVER do that to me So I still don't know what the blue vs green is all about & what exactly factors into getting karma. We know it has something to do with time served, because you will find people who joined long ago but didn't contribute a lot & they have a lot of karma. I think it follows a pattern of a blue dot ever x # of reps. I'll go look at my rep points in a sec. We also know that you lose karma when you steal points. If you solve more mysteries of the karma, post them here. -
sounds like a mess! Sorry you had to deal with this. Are you still going to do BD pics? I think you should find another photographer & still take them. I didn't do them before my wedding, but I'm now giving them to my husband for a 1-yr gift (tomorrow!)

to me it would depend on how nice those invites are. if they are tacky looking invites that have a big TA logo across them, I wouldn't be happy. Is she joining BDW?

Catalonia Riviera Maya
rodent replied to rodent's topic in Destination Wedding in Riviera Maya, Cancun & surrounding areas
It's a fairly new thing. well, within the last 3 years. I had not heard of it until I joined here. Trash The Dress The idea is you don't need your dress after the wedding so why not get some great pictures. Some people trash it like cover the dress in paint or cut it to pieces. There is even a picture of the bride on fire. But on BDW, it's usually just rolling around in the water. To me it was a way to get really fun pictures & not have to worry if the dress got messed up in the process. I trashed a dress like mine the day before the wedding, just becasue it worked out with our plans. We went to a cenote for that one. Thenm on the night of the wedding, we went into the ocean. The next day I re-trashed the dress with 2 friends who brought their dresses along. People also do day after sessions where they have another opportunity to take romantic pics. It doesn't have to be a trash the dress. also, dresses rarely get trashed in the ocean. it really jsut makes them cleaner. -
I'm sorry for your loss. I was just telling a story today about my grandma who passed away 2 years ago. I miss her, but I have so many great memories & stories that she is still a big part of my life. After she passed, I spent a lot of time organizing pictures I had of her. I finally scanned them and backed up the files and the shared them with family.

I love the NC moutains. but, you'd be heading away from greenville to get to good hikes. I'm not sure how long your trip is. You will pass through durham on the way. I'd suggest stopping by duke campus & touring the gardens & chapel if you are looking for things to see. Once you are in greenville, you are getting pretty close to the beach. Why greenville? What types of stops did you have in mind? I'v lived here 5 years & I love this state. We don't want to leave.

Tungsten Wedding Band?
rodent replied to Jess's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I got mike a tungsten band. It was only $8.50 online. They are way overpriced at jewelry stores. It's an industrial metal so you can get it CHEAP. It's a really beautiful ring. I did some reseach & found a picture some guy took of his rings in all 4 metals. His tungsten ring looked perfect and the rest were scratched up. You can't get it sized, so i jsut bought mike two. At $8 each it didn't matter. The place I bought mine from doesn't sell tungsten, but lots of online plces do. Overstock always has some. also, search the forum. we've talked about tungsten a lot. -

I've got everything from a size 2 who has to have everything altered because she's so tiny @ 5'1, to a size 24- I just didn't feel right trying to dictate what I thought would look good on everyone in MY personal opinion. I wanted them to be comfortable and secure about how they look. this is exactly what we did in the last wedding I was in (but clover green). It was great.

Boudoir pictures- what was your reason for doing them?
rodent replied to rodent's topic in Random Thoughts
1. Who were you really taking the BD pics for? myself. I'm giving them as a 1-year anniversary picture to mike (this weekend!!), but we don't really exchange gifts. It's something I did for me & giving it to him as a gift is just part of the fun for me. 2. What syle did you want for your pictures? I wanted a sweet, but sexy look. Mostly sexy just because of what I was wearing. My facial expressions & postures are mostly sweet & smiley. 3. What was your motivation for wanting to take the pictures? I was rewarding myself for losing weight in BL5. I also wanted the experience. The girls on here that did BD pics sound like it really was a great experience so i wanted to give it a shot. 4. How do you think enjoyed the pictures more? I haven't given them to him yet so I don't know. I'm expecting to enjoy them more. I will probably look at them more often, but we'll see. 5. Did seeing the pictures make you look at yourself differently? yes, I forgot about my sexy side. The pictures made me feel more beautiful. I don't spend a lot of time on my apperance. Even the time leading up to the shoot I just felt sexier. After seeing the proofs I felt even better. 6. Was the experience good for your love life? yes, when i feel sexier it's good for our love life. 7. If you did them again, would you do a different style? nope 8. Do you think BD pics make sense for single women who don't have a man to gift the pictures to? I think so. They area great boost in confidence. 9. Did you care if your photographer was male or female? I only wanted to work with a female. I also think mike would be a little upset if a male took the pictures. -
So the topic came up on a photography forum about who boudoir pictures are targeted to please & I decided to ask some actual brides. Many of us have our pictures shot in a "women's magazine" style not the seductive "mens magazine" style. If you watch ANTM, you know the difference. Feel free to answer as many questions as you want. Also, you can adapt it if you haven't taken your pics yet but plan to. 1. Who were you really taking the BD pics for? Yourself or your husband? 2. What syle did you want for your pictures? Sexy & seductive? Glam? Elegant? Classy? Maxim-like sex kitten? Another adjective? 3. What was your motivation for wanting to take the pictures? Reward yourself for weight loss? Motivate yourself to get in better shape? Have a record of how hot you were in your younger days? Make yourself feel sexier? Make your husband think you are sexier? 4. Who do you think enjoyed the pictures more? You or your husband? 5. Did seeing the pictures make you look at yourself differently? 6. Was the experience good for your love life? 7. If you did them again, would you do a different style? 8. Do you think BD pics make sense for single women who don't have a man to gift the pictures to? 9. Did you care if your photographer was male or female?

How to tell guests it's NOT an open bar...?
rodent replied to angieanderson's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
nevermind i just saw the wedding is at virginia beach, not an AI hotel somewhere like mexico. For our wedding, we partied with guests and drank on the other nights of the vacation. On our wedding night, we didn't stay out late. Everyone still had fun without us there. -

rodent replied to angieanderson's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
i agree with limiting time or available drinks. Are you staying at an AI? If people want to drink all night, they can move the party to another bar afterwards. I think it all depends on the kind of reception you want. is this just dinner or dinner & dancing? 4 drinks is a lot. I don't think the B&G need to foot the bill for binge drinking. besides, they can drink a lot any other night of the vacation. Unless you want the reception to be a late night party with a lot of drinking. In that case, i'd find a way to accomidate that.
