Mike & Morgan's mountaintop proposal
rodent replied to rodent's topic in Share your Wedding & Engagement Stories!
I made a montage of our engagement pictures. I wanted to practice so I know how to do this when we have wedding pictures & a video. It was easier than I expected. I used Windows Movie Maker. I guess it comes with Windows, because it was already on my computer. If people are interested, I can explain how I did it. I should probably start a new post for that. Video of Engagement - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting -
I didn't decide on colors, but I guess they are now blue and orange because those are the colors I used in my logo. Kind of a backwards way of picking colors. I wanted to use turquoise, but it didn't stand out in front of the orange starfish, so I darkend the blue. So now I have colors.

TP0800N 6oz. Natural Canvas Cotton Tote Bags I found this website that has no minimum on the number of blank bags you order. 1-49 is $1.38 per bag & 50-100 cost $1.28 per bag. There are more bags that are different sizes & colors on the website. The 100 minimum is what makes getting the bags made too expensive for me. I'll probably have about 40-50 guest, but only plan on giving 1 bag per couple. I will probably buy the bags this way and iron on the logo myself. Has anyone found better prices (other than getting lucky & finding them on sale at a craft store)? I will definitly check out craft stores when they start closing out summer stuff.

I love how it started with waves crashing onto the rocks. The end of the video was also really cool. I like how there was one image over the quickly moving images of the reception. What type of video editing software do you use to do something like this?

Great, affordable ideas for wedding gifts
rodent replied to rodent's topic in General Wedding Planning Information
I can't get him to do it anymore. I think its because its no longer original. Like I said, this is my craft project now. I try to pull out the notes & read them to him, but he doesn't usually play along. But he does still write notes. They were never like poetic love notes. Just cute little notes saying to have a good day or little inside jokes. I was just on the phone with the wedding coordinator. He slipped me a note saying "do you want a burger for dinner check -yes -no -your cute." That will make it in the box. I fianlly got a hold of my wedding coordinator!! I still don't have my date set. She told me to email her, which I have been doing. Hopefully this email will get replied to!! -
Great, affordable ideas for wedding gifts
rodent replied to rodent's topic in General Wedding Planning Information
I'm on a roll with cheap gifts! My favorite bridesmaids gift ever was a little photoalbum. It had pictures of me & the bride being silly together on each page. Then she stuck words that either came from scrapbooking stuff or out of magazines on each page. Things like "hot stuff" & a picture of us posing before a night out dancing. We laughed so hard looking at these albums. Someone took a great picture of us all looking at the albums laughing. So I already started working on doing the same gift. Hers will have the picture of us looking at her albums & say "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery." I don't think I'm having bridesmaids anymore, but I'll still make the gifts. I already scanned all the old pictures & got them printed off. I did that right after her wedding over a year ago. -

Another idea in that article I posted is to go to a good wine store. You know the kind where the emplyoees know about wine. Buy a bottle of wine or champagne that would be at its best age in 5 or 10 years. Then write a note explaining how it will be aged to perfection in 5 years for them to enjoy on their anniversary. I think it would be nice to include memories from that day or the time surrounding their wedding in the note. Oh, this makes me think of something really cheesy that mike & I do. He covered a box with scrapbook paper & pictures of us together. He got some girls in his class to help. Then when we write each other cute little notes or give each other cards we stick them in the box afterwards. On our 1 year anniversary I was getting ready in the bedroom. When I walked out he had scattered the entire box all over the apartment. After we got back from dinner we sat on the floor & took turn reading the notes to each other. It was wonderful! It reminded me of all the reasons why I love him. So now we have 3 boxes & I'm starting the 4th. Each one is more fun to make than the last because we have more memories & pictures together. This one will have pictures from our biggest vacation yet (UK & France) and our engagement pictures. So maybe a memory box would be a nice gift. If anyone is interested I'll descibe how its made. Instructions: Tear up pieces of scrapbook paper & decopage (sp?) them on. Its that glue like stuff you get a craft store. I think the brand is Modge Podge. After the layer of paper is dry, we put pictures on top & decopage again. Sometimes we put lines cut out from cards we gave each other onto the box. I like those between you and me hallmark cards. I'll fill the inside with pictures too. Sometimes I'll get all the pictures printed in black & white. This has really become my craft now. I still don't think I've made one look as good as the one he made. -
Great, affordable ideas for wedding gifts

Well, I started the post & you can get as off topic as you want in my post. My mom has been married a few times. I have her ring from the first wedding. She gave it to me when I was 16. I never knew her first husband. It was just a beautiful ring & I loved wearing it on my right hand when I was younger. The meaning behind the ring changed once my mom gave it to me as a gift. I liked the style so much that I picked out a similar engagement ring. I don't think objects from past weddings need to be discarded. They may have more sentimental value because of a special memory with family. And I think sometimes things are just things. All the pots, plates, etc. we had were from my mom's first wedding. They are still great pots & plates after the divorce. -

Thanks for sharing the veil site ann. I haven't decided if I'm wearing one, but I will definitly use that site if I do. Here is the site for those who missed it OccanseyDesigns.com - Custom Wedding Veils -
You can just get the info from other people's things to do list. Jason made a great post of things to do in riviera maya. I also started a post to find out stuff to do. I know know if there is other stuff to do in cancun, but I found most of the excursions from cancun were in RM. When I stayed in cancun we went through funjet. There was a funjet office that helped you find stuff to do. also alltournative.com looks awesome. http://bestdestinationwedding.com/fo...urce-list.html http://bestdestinationwedding.com/fo...iera-maya.html

onetruemedia.com I think you can upload videos for free. You may have to pay if you upload too much stuff. The fee is only 3.99 per month, but I'm pretty sure you can do one video for free. Another really cool thing about it is that if you have family or friends with a tivo, they can subscribe to your "station" & see your videos & pictures over their TV.

I bought my dress!
rodent replied to PaulaV's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I love the back! I agree, the veil is too dark. The cut of the back is so pretty, that a big veil could take away from that. I like the style of your veil. Can you get it in a lighter color? -
I used funjet.com to compair prices to different areas. I found cancun/ riviera maya was the cheapest flying from texas so I chose that. I picked a hotel in the riviera maya because the area sounds so exciting. Cozumel was also a cheaper option, but I didn't want to be on an island for our guest who would prefer to visit the jungle. Some people have told us they are not "beach people."

I spent a lot of time thinking about how to avoid family drama before I started planning. So far, I haven't had any. But then, I'm only 2 weeks into planning. These are the things I did to try to make it easy on my guest and hopefully avoid any problems. I chose the cancun area because its the most afforable to get to from Texas. I also picked a less expensive resort that lets kids stay free. I think it will be around $650 for a flight & 3 nights stay. I think that is reasonable for our guests. I checked with our parents before we started planning to see if they were behind us. My parents are really excited about having the wedding in mexico. They go there already every summer. His parents are definitly supportive. I don't know if they are excited about mexico, but they said to do what we want to do. As for the rest of our family, I feel its up to them if they want to go. If our siblings would rather save their money for something else, thats fine with me. After talking to all of them, it sounds like they are excited about the trip and do plan on going. I made sure they knew that we did not expect them to go. I know our grandparents will not be there. We also talked to them about it & they sound fine with celebrating with us afterwards. I plan on making them a memory book and getting together to watch the video. As far as friends, they are really easy. I've told all my friends they can decide if they want to go or not, no pressure or expectations. I am really surprised who says they plan on going. I never would've expected so many people to want to go, but I think a lot are just excited about traveling. I am not planning a wedding reception. I hope this will eliminate the stress of me having to worry that too many people are coming. I want anyone who wants to come to be able to. If my friends want to bring friends or their family I don't want to have to prevent them from doing it because I don't want to pay for their meal that night. I hope it works out not planning an event after the wedding. I'm hoping we can just enjoy what the hotel has to offer. I got a travel agent. I'm giving everyone her contact info & they can just coordinate their trip with her. I hope this way there won't be any stress for me to collect RSVPs & worry about rooms going unused. The main thing I did to accomidate family was planning the wedding for the cancun area. I would've liked to go somewhere I have never been, but Cancun was the cheapest. I was disapointed at first, but then I learned more about the Riviera Maya. Although its right by Cancun, it sounds like a totally different experience. I have found so many activities to do in the area & I'm really excited now about going back to Mexico. I also don't plan on sending out invites to announce the wedding. I worry an invite will make people feel too much pressure to go. Instead, I made a really detailed website with all the information about planning the trip. The first page has a letter explaining why we chose a destination wedding. The rest is filled with info to get people excited about the destination & make their trip planning easy. I hope that by doing it this way we will not run into any negativity. Once I get my date locked in I plan on distributing the web address. I have called everyone close to us & told them what we planned on doing. We will send out an invite once we have the post wedding party planned inviting them to that. I feel like a lot of family members are happy we are doing this. Its like I'm planning the family vacation for them. My friends have always talked about taking a big vacation together. Now we are finally going to do it. Someone posted that after the wedding someone thanked her for the most fun vacation they have ever been on. After reading that I knew I had to go through with this plan even if I'm worried some people might get upset. Sorry this was so long!

Mike & Morgan's mountaintop proposal
rodent replied to rodent's topic in Share your Wedding & Engagement Stories!
Yes, thats why they stopped, so we'd be alone. He told them the day before they flew out here. I can't believe that was only 2 weeks ago. I feel like I've been planning this wedding for months now! My mom will be visiting in a few weeks so I'm excited to get to share the wedding planning fun with her. -

"Things to pack" section for website
rodent replied to rodent's topic in General Wedding Planning Information
I called my credit card companies before going to the UK & France in March. I didn't have a problem. Maybe it depends on the company. We'll pack mosquito spray. I just wanted to make sure we were protecting from the right kind of bug. Although, I think mosquito spray is usually for several types of bugs. For some reason mosquitos are usually not on beaches. Maybe because of the breeze. In college we went to the island that was a natural protected area so they didn't spray for mosquitos at all. There were swarms of mosquitos everywhere, it was terrible. The next day we worked at the beach all day & didn't get bit once. So I figure there is some reason why they don't hang out on the beach. My wedding will be by a lagoon though. That could be bad.
