I have had many updos & I thought she was great. I posted her info in this thread somewhere. -
In a tough spot- do I fire a bridesmaid?
rodent replied to DarcyJAde's topic in Just venting or funnies
the wedding is in 3 months...are trips booked? if she is booked to go I would not fire her as a BM. -
I think it sounds great. That would be one AHR my husband would actually enjoy.

Please, look them up before entering one. My step sister just entered a picture of her son in one of these contests. She paid $40 to do it & gave them her friends & family members email addresses. From what I've read, they will now be spamming me. In order to vote, you go through pages of adds & they ask for all sorts of info like your cell phone number so they can send you text spams. They also don't reward the prize unless they get over 2,500 entries which doesn't always happen. So it's there was of not paying anyone anything after all these people sent in their $40 entry fee. The contests go by many names. This one was the great american photo contest, but there are so many more just like it. I am really hoping the spam is only for people who entered their email address to vote. She gave them my primary email address & I do not want to go through all the hassles of changing to a new address. I have so many things set up with this account. If you are ever unsure about something, just search the name of it with the word scam. You can usually find info that way.

DR resorts w/o a casino?
rodent replied to finzup's topic in Destination Weddings in Dominican Republic
i wondered about this too. I was looking for an AI in DR for my mom & was surprised that it looked like they all had casinos. I avoid hotels with casinos too, but if it was just something small I'd probably be ok with it. -

I'd consider hiring someone or having a guest officiate. I posted the hotel script (atleast what it was 1 year ago) at the thread "share you ceremony script." -
Venue Communication Floods In..& So Do the Problems
rodent replied to BillysBride's topic in Just venting or funnies
yeah, my officiant was the hotel wedding coordinator, elena, barefoot. I thought about having a friend or family member officiate, but didn't know who would be good for that. I put some feelers out & just got "sounds like a good idea, i wouldn't be a good person for that." so end the end we had the hotel WC. It was nice though. I like that our ceremony script was read with an accent. Adds some authenticity to our mexico wedding. And i like that she isn't wearing shoes. -

Im just not sure if you pay extra for drinks during the reception. Know they are 9USD if you want drinks on the beach after the ceremony, hope this is different for the evening reception! Im going to contact them back in October for details. Doing nothing until then. they served our champagne on the beach for no charge. 1 bottle of champagne was included in the package & another was in our room. We gave them back the bottle from our room so they had 2 to serve after the wedding. normally the champagne would be for dinner, but they let us have it on the beach. Things may have changed since my wedding. It was a year ago. -

So we can't expect to see Savannah and Billy + 4 any time soon? -
I love hearing how much people enjoy their pictures. Aren't wedding pictures wonderful? I saw my first teasers one night while in Mexico. I kept waking up that night because I was so excited & dreaming about the pictures. I just started thinking about that last weekend while flipping through my album. The great thing is you just keep enjoying the pictures more & more after the wedding.

Advice to Brides from a MOH

I have to now take 4 days of my annual leave to accommodate all the appointments she has made leading up to the wedding when she knows full well I have been accumulating leave for my own wedding next year - Oh sure I will cut my honeymoon short so I can get a spray tan!!!! 3. She can't make my wedding because she might not be able to afford it (but can spend $8 each for her 100 invitations) btw they are u-g-l-y!! (ok vent over...) I think as a bride you should at least be having some consideration for other peoples feelings. I know it is the most "important day" of a brides life but not at the expense of other peoples feelings. I am actually questioning the friendship with my friend of 10 years over her behavior... say no to things you think are out of line. as long as you do it nicely, a reasonable person will understand. It's better to let her know you will not be doing something, instead of doing it and resenting her for it. Like the spray tan. Just tell her you won't be around for the appointment and you won't need a spray anyway, because you will have just returned from your honeymoon. -

i also don't think kate is to blame. I don't think you can place the blame on one person or cause (like saying it's the show that ruined their marriage, having 8 kids, etc.) i try to use the show as a learning experience. it is TLC afterall they do a lot of things right. I like how they are with their kids. It bothers me to see the media grab a handful of clips & try to portray her as a bad mom. You can see how the dynamics of a marriage can be good & bad while watching them. It reminds me to not talk over mike (which I tend to do). -
I started a thread called something like discount online dress website compiled. do an advanced search for threads started by me with discount in the title & it will probably show up. There are many online shops where you can save a bunch on a brides & BM dress. Don't forget to factor in the cost of alterations.

I have heard of parents doing this so the kids don't have to change houses. It can be stressful on the kids to be living one place & then packing up to live another. Especially with 8. I wonder if they will have their own bedrooms & lock the doors when they are away. -

I think they would have had the same issues with & without the show. Early on you can notice things about the way they interact that could lead to divorce if they didn't address the issues. They also say these issues have been going on for a long time. It's possible they were seperated but living together when he was seeing the other girl. I don't think an affair drove them apart. It could just be a symptom of their troubled marriage. I don't think bad of them for doing the show. It's a way to generate income and still get to spend time with the kids. Sure the show adds a stress on them, but so would being broke. I appreciate them for being so honest on national television. We all had the opportunity to watch a marriage fall apart and it's a good reminder to keep working on having a happy marriage. You can see where they put the kids as a much higher priority than their relationship and just started to get worse every year. I only started watching the show recently, so when I watch old episodes I'm watching them thinking about that they are likely divorcing. There are so many warning signs in the old episodes that it looks inevitable. I was hoping the announcement was that they were ending the show & focusing on their relationship. But, sometimes I do think divorce is best for a family. Anyone have a favorite kid? Mine is aaden. I love how he pretends to be a different animal all the time. -

I read somewhere they he is apartment shopping in NYC. I am very anxious for tonight's episode. I jsut watched their trip to florida for his 30th birthday rerun. It was really sad because she was talking about working on their marriage to keep it strong. Divorce isn't the worst thing that can happen to a family, though. My parents are divorced & I had a great family life. Their kids can still have a really great life, it will just be different. -
any time you use a credit card the business has to pay a percentage. I recently learned it's against the terms of use with the credit card company (or paypal) to pass that cost on to the customer. It's not even OK to offer a discount for paying cash. So instead of charging a fee to use a credit card, some people just don't take them. I do prefer using my credit card, but I also try to pay cash or check when I spending a large chunk of money to a local business or individual. I don't bother when it's target or a big chain store. Just if it's a small business & I want them to get all the money instead of paying the credit card fee. We also always try to tip in cash. I'd make sure she has a good reputation and a contract that also protects you. Like tammy said, photographers will often have a part about what happens if for some reason they can't make it. Usually they send a suitable replacement. Someone as good if not better than them.
