Photographer for Riviera Maya Wedding??
rodent replied to queena427's topic in Riviera Maya and Cancun Wedding Vendors
Search around & you'll find so much info about RM photographers. You can't really compare prices from one to the next. There can be huge differences between the quality of work, professionalism, attention to detail with the images, etc. photography is one of those things that varies a ton in price & quality. Not that more expensive always means better quality. -
OOT Bags - Our Items were a HUGE Hit!!
rodent replied to TinaM2b's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
Looks great (except that burnt orange). Gig Em! Just kidding. I think delivering before is a great way to do it. Our guests were mostly from out of state though. But, it would be helpful to have the stuff before so you don't have to think about packing any of those items. I made myself an OOT bag & i take some of the stuff from it every time I travel, like the first aid kit. -
We never asked for cash, but that is mostly what we got. I told my mom the things we wanted the most on our registy. Several people called to ask what we really wanted & she let them know it was our fiesta ware. We ended up getting most of that, knives & cash. Worked out great & we didn't have to go all tacky on our guests & we didn't end up with stuff we don't have room for.

Just wanted everyone to know, so you can plan!! That is a shame. Someone posted this before, but I wasn't sure if they were thinking of the legal ceremony. I'd look in to having someone else officiate. I didn't like the standard script they had. -
We just booked flights to Hawaii for our 2 year anniversary. I've convinced Mike to let me hire a photographer for each anniversary. Our 1 year was just me, a tripod & a remote. Our 2 year is going to be great! I'm so excited to think about putting together 10 year anniversary books & a 50 year anniversary chip that we implant into our eyes to see the 3D images. Or maybe it will be moving pictures like in Hary Potter. Anyway back to year two. I've been loving the work of Ohana Photographers - San Diego Wedding Photographers Hawaii Wedding Photographers Their pictures are so much fun. I know we'll have a blast taking them. I also love their sunset beach pictures & beautiful environmental portraits. They are based our of California, but have family in Oahu. They do destination weddings, too if anyone here is as big of a fan as I am. I went through their blog to pick out a few favorites & went overboard. I am really excited at the thought of having a beautiful picture from our aniversary in Hawaii to hang on the wall. OK to my favorites

Here are more pictures of making the luggage tags. I made them recently for my mom, bro & SIL when they flew out to visit. It wasn't the most fun project. I burnt myself on the shrinky dinks several times. They curl up while baking & it's hard to keep the corners from sticking. I found that if I baked until it started to curl & then opened the oven door for a few seconds, it worked better. I guess it cools off at just the right time. It also helps to have paper ready to smush it flat once it's done baking. my first ones were really wavy. Just when I got the hang of it, I ran out of paper. I doubt I'll buy more. The tag holders were from ebay. I put two on each 8x10 sheet cut it out & punched holes (another tip- stay farther from the edge than this if you can.) I just put on their name, city, phone numbers. Type it in a completely white box. I tried using a faded background, but everything gets darker once baked so it was hard to read. Black text on white works best. completed one my mom's dog I painted them with clear nail polish on the front to protect it & add a shine

I posted some stuff I made for my MIL's bday gift that would work for OOT bags. http://bestdestinationwedding.com/fo...013#post913387 This is what I made for my mom's b-day. We just booked a trip to Hawaii so the moms are getting Hawaii kits for their presents. My mom loves wearing flowers in her hair so I made her a flower clip for each day we will be in Hawaii. I bought the clips on ebay & the flowers at Michael's. The clips were perfect. There is a small hole on one side that I could stick the stem through. Then I hot glued the stem so it would stay. I have found the duck-bill clip is my favorite for holding in a flower. The red orchid is my favorite. I made one for me & one for my mom. I still have 6 orchids left. I will probably make flowers for a future vacation, but if someone is interested in buying them I can put them together & mail them. If anyone is interested let me know.

More Hawaii stuff: This is my MIL's bday gift. I got the bottle opener for about $5 on ebay. The album is from maps on leather.com. I also bought that on ebay for $20-$30. It's handmade, but the quality isn't excellent. It it a little wobbly and the picture holders are not really nice. It's good, just not great. The coin pouch & hair flower is a left over from my OOT bags from oriental trading. The CD is music I bought of amazon. I made the label & stomped it on. Only use completely blank front discs with labels. Otherwise it can mess up in your CD player. I made the image in photoshop. It's a picture of mike's parents at our wedding. I added the lay, umbrella, ukalalie, & background. I used the same image on a luggage tag. I made that using shrinky dinks following these steps. http://www.microsoft.com/canada/home...h-your-pc.aspx I didn't write with a marker, but typed the name in a white box. The shrinky dinks tags were a PITA to make. I finally got it down. I messed up several when I first started making them. It's probably not a project I'll do again now that I'm out of the shrinky dink printer paper. OK That is my MIL's gift. My mom is getting a hair flower for each day of the trip. I posted that here http://bestdestinationwedding.com/fo...014#post913391

I had so much fun making OOT bags for our wedding, that it's something I've started doing for family trips. I don't make anything as elaborate as our wedding OOT bags, but I'll paint names on cups of something like that. We just booked our 2 year anniversary trip to Hawaii & our mom's are coming. Both of their birthdays are soon, so I made them Hawaii kits. I thought people would be interested in some of the things I made for OOT bags. Koozies: yes, mike's fish is pooting. when i made our wedding cups he said he wanted the bubbles coming out of the fish's butt, so I did the same on his koozie. I got the koozies for 40cents at Michaels today. I may have been undercharged though. They might be $1, but there was a misplaced sign. The foam stickers were in a 60% off summer section. They were only $3 for a bunch of them. It was about 300 stickers & 600 letters. They have non-clearance foam stickers too. It was so easy. Just lay out the design, peel the back & stick it on. The most time consuming part is finding the letters. If you were making a bunch, you could sort out the letters & it would go fast. They are stuck on there really good. I also made this pirate one for a friend with a 30cent clerance set of stickers. They do not stick as good as the fish ones.

6 pm in June- Enough time for pictures??
rodent replied to amyanddehn's topic in Destination Weddings in Dominican Republic
sunset is late in june. it's after 8:30PM. The late evening sun is better for pictures anyway. I would have liked a late ceremony, but I wanted to get to dinner by 6:30. We are early bird eaters. -

Plead your case. If it's the one splurge you want to make then he will likely understand. It's hard for men to understand why we love photography so much. My husband doesn't feel the same way at all, but he now gets how much pictures mean to me. I've told him they are the only material thing I value & it's true. I didn't care about spending a lot on the dress and I asked him not to get me an expensive ring. I enjoy driving a 10 year old car. I'm naturally cheap in every part of my life, but I love spending money on pictures. He gets it. He was so wonderful at our wedding spending hours taking pictures with me, even wading through bat poop to get to the spot for a picture. He has barely glanced at our pictures, but I look at them all the time. He also agreed to take pictures with my every anniversary. This year it was just my tripod & remote control. Next year we are doing portraits in hawaii. I'll always want to get family pictures done once we have kids. I booked a less expensive photographer for 3 hours at first. I would get so jelous when people came back with their amazing wedding pictures. Nothing else about the wedding was causing me as much concern. It was only a few months before the wedding when I canceled the original photographer & booked a photographer to fly out. Even though she was stressful and later became <photographers named removed> I'm so happy I have great wedding pictures. -

Or the sports bar. you'd practically have that one to yourselves. we'd often just get a big table at the buffets and end up having these impromtu group meals. It was great. I like keeping things relaxed. We ended up booking meals at the various restaurants as groups, but different groups were at each one. A group caught fish one day & they cooked them up at the japanese restaurant. That same night we had 3 tables at the italian restaurant. Then afterwards a bunch of us ended up at the creperie eatting ice cream. The place is small enough that you don't have to schedule things. you just end up running into each other & having fun group things. If you look through the "what I would do again" thread you'll see a general theme is no one cares about the cake or welcome dinners & most people are either happy they got great photography or dissapointed they didn't.
