He applied for his passport in July and didn't get it until December because they kept giving him the run around. When I started the delayed birth cert. process, it was in February 2007 - before our August 2007 wedding. They told me they needed 2 of the following - - - notorized affidavid from an older sybling, school records, military records & an affidavid of domicile....along with all birth info for all of his 8 syblings (that part has hard). We turned in the affidavid from his bro, military records and affidavid of domicile. Well we were later informed that they also wanted school records. It just seemed like every time we turned something in they would ask for something else. OK, so the big hassel was getting the delays birth certificate. Luckily, that part I shouldn't have to worry about. The part I'm worried about though is that it took 6 months after you applied for the passport for it to come in. We don't have that much time. But, I think I remember the passport agencies were having problems in July & there were delays, which is why the rule was changed to only requiring that you have filed. I think it's now a requirement that you have the actual passport, but I'm not sure. I thought that was just a temporary thing to help out people who's passports were delayed because of the backup. From July to december were you given more run around about getting the passport? Or was it just slow coming in? We were planning to submit the Delayed BC + a set of school records for getting the passport. From what I've read that looks like enough, but I'm not sure. Sorry, for all the questions but it's great to hear from someone who has gone through the process. Especially since it was the same state.

And his military records. It was the biggest PITA that I've ever had to deal w/. We did finally receive his birth cert., not not his passport, although we had the receipt that he applied for it, so he was able to travel w/ no problem. He finally received his passport in Dec., 4 months after our wedding. They really do try to make it difficult. Good Luck!! It sounds like it is going to work out for you. She's lucky to have you help her. When you traveled it was during the time that they were allowing a passport application. We probably won't have the same luck. How long did it take to get his passport from the time he applied for it? My grandma doesn't have anyone older than her alive to sign. Why did you need that, and school records & military records? I thought you just needed one of those things. We only have the school records. So did you get the long green form from the state of texas? Was your dad born in texas? My grandma was so i'm really interested in hearing what all it took to do this. maybe it will be easier for my grandma because she already has a delayed birth certificate, it's just not the official style. I had the old style too when I needed a passport & it was easy to order a new one. I just hate for her to get stuck at home due to a technical difficulty. I would have started working on this earlier, but my mom told me grandma had the right kind of birth certificate. I found out when I was home for Christmas that she didn't.

I just hope there are no problems with the delayed birth certificate. They don't accept them like regular birth certificates. You have to have another form of ID for age. The only one she has are the school records. I hope they are good enough. This is what the passport agency says about delayed birth certificates: A Delayed Birth Certificate filed more than one year after your birth may be acceptable if it: Listed the documentation used to create it and Signed by the attending physician or midwife, or, lists an affidavit signed by the parents, or shows early public records. I don't know what "Listed the documentation used to create it" means. I also don't think it's signed by anyone. So the next thing we are trying are the early public records, which are her school records. And I also don't understand if we use the little white birth certificate she has, or if we try to get the green long form style. I don't know if they make those for delayed BCs.

Other ideas I like are to have everyone sign a picture mat. They have them at BB&B & target. Also, some people bought a coffee table book about Mexcio, etc to have guests sign. I know I'd never look at a traditional book again, so I like the idea of doing something different. Oh, I thought of another I've seen. You can give the guests postcards with stamps to send to you after the wedding with their favorite memories. Then put those together into a book. And then there was Kate who had the autograph donkey. The possibilities are endless.

OK this is what it says: The processing time for most orders is 10-15 state business days. Delivery timeframes after the order is processed depend on the type of shipping selected. So Its OK we haven't got it yet. I was just worried there was a problem, like the state wouldn't be able to send it to us. I'll call anyway. So if we get it within a month, we have over 4 months for it to come in. I do think we are safe as long as everything works. How much extra is it to expedite it?

It said it could take 15-18 days. With the holidays I'm not surprised it's taking longer. I also need to see if it said business days.

There are places where you can be on the beach & have the cape hatteras lighthouse in the background. It does make for great pictures. The Cape Hatteras lighthouse was moved so you may see lots of pictures of it on the water, but it's not there anymore. This is how far it is now

I've been there a few times on vacation. I think pictures in front of the lighthouses would be cool, but most of them are not on the water.

My grandma has already booked her trip, but she does have the insurance through funjet (the version that costs $89). She was born at home and did no get a birth certificate until she was 17 so it's considered deleyed. She does have a school record that she used to file for social security. Also, her birth certificate is not the official kind you need for a passport. I applied for an official one over 20 days ago & haven't heard anything yet. Has anyone delt with a difficult passport to obtain? We have 5 months, but I'm still worried she won't be able to get a passport. Any ideas what I should be doing? Update: The birth certificate came in, just a little late. Probably because of all the holidays. She applied for her passport right after her birth certificate came in & it showed up in two weeks!!! So if someone runs into a similar problem, contact their former school & get school records. That is all you need. There are some other options too. I'm just so happy their wasn't any deley!!! Watch out Mexico, my grandma is coming!!

How Long Did You Wait To Move Forward?
rodent replied to kristeyb's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
I started making my website, but didn't send it out to anyone until the date was confirmed. You can start designing your STDs, etc. That way once you have everything confirmed, you can send it all out right away. -
Picking a Resort

also, see if they allow outside vendors. Many of us hire a local photographer instead of using the hotel photographer. Some hotels charge fees to bring in your own photographer, florest, cake, etc. -

If the hotel gets hit in october, they may not be ready to reopen by november.

Any ideas on where to start with vows???
rodent replied to JODEY's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
There is a copy on the forum of what the legal wording is. I'll see if I can find it. -
I bought the shantini lite at walmart for $17. It's just like the nubra. It is great. it stays on and actually gives clevage. It probably won't lift, but it definitly pulls them together. I also came across this today. They are stick on & iron cups to put in the clothing.

I tend to have the forum open with the window minimized during the day so I can check it when i have some free time. But, I just started to wonder if having one more person on the forum, even if I'm not opening anything can use up some of the server power & slow everything down for anyone else searching. If so, I'll start closing when I'm not using it.

Anyone use stamps.com? I got a CD in the mail that offers a free trial + $25 in postage, $25 amazon gift card, Digital postage scale & a supplies kit. I was wondering if it was a good deal. I sell stuff on ebay sometimes so it would be nice to be able to do that from home. But, I have a post office near my work so it's not a big deal to stop by.

Search isn't working, but if you click advanced search it still works. October is peak hurricane season. That is why it's cheaper. But, november is also in season. If you do pick a date during hurricane season, look into getting insurance. There is a lot of info on the forum about insurance. I decided to avoid peak hurricane season & go with June. Prices are lower than jan-april and the chances of a hurricane are low in June.
