I know they thought this was polite but it seemed so tacky to me. I was looking for invitation ideas yesterday for inspiration. This one said "we have registered at blank, blank & blank but would greatly appreciate gifts of cash." I don't think there is anyone polite way to print it. I have told my mom the gifts I could use the most so when people ask her she can tell them. I really want my dishes, pots & pans & knives. The rest is mostly things I like, but don't need right now. We live in a small apartment & plan to leave the state in 2-3 years. I'd rather buy stuff when I settle. It's funny because everyone just wants cash, but no one wants to say it or ask for it. I just always give money now at weddings. I give a personal check though incase cash/ giftcard gets lost. My friend was robbed during her shower by a guest. After my friend was robbed, her mom put a huge pad lock on the envelope box at the wedding. It was actually pretty funny looking. So a check isn't something they could steal. I've heard of drunk guest taking money from the money tree many times. Often they are the date of someone & don't know the couple.

Why not register for a few items there - things you might like to keep, like sheets, towels, etc... If you change your mind after the wedding, you can always return everything for cash. I know it's a bit sneaky, but this way people who want to give gifts can and no one is offended. I was going to say the same sneaky thing.

Normally I'd feel bad to do that to the other girl, but I gave up my prom date in high school & he is now married to the girl he went with instead of me. So I felt like it was my turn. OK, I'm getting all sappy thinking about our first few weeks together. We were at the gym doing situps together when he asked if I'd go to that formal with him. Afterwards we went to olive garden & he slipped & introduced me as his girlfriend. That's how we made it official. We went by my place afterwards & I showed him my closet of bridesmaids dresses & asked which one I should wear. He picked the silvery one because it was the color of his first car. 2 weeks later we were at the dance together & already crazy in love with each other. I can see it in that picture. The hardest thing about our first month of dating was that we knew it was going to end. I was moving to north carolina & he wanted to go into the army. After a month together he showed up in my lab with a suit on & flowers & told me he wanted to move with me. So we put all our stuff in a UHaul & here we are 4 1/2 years later in north carolina as happy as can be super excited about getting married. Bet you didn't know you'd unleash the sappiness in me by asking about that picture. We got pretty drunk at that party & when I got my role of film developed I saw a pretty funny series of pictures. One was me kissing him with my leg kicked up. The next was with my legs down & his kicked up. My computer just crashed (I had planned to backup today) & I was really in a bad mood as I set on another computer eating lunch. I'm all warm & happy now. I will do that. Otherwise I'd be tracing over it every few years with a marker to make it last.

I did talk to one of the girls last night and I told her that I really wished she could have been part of my wedding party and if I were to have a local wedding she would have been the first I asked. I also apologized for being consumed with the wedding. She said she understood and said that maybe she was just alittle jealous because she did not get to have wedding the first time. Her long time boyfriend proposed over the phone because he was in the military and she flew to Florida one weekend with her mom and got married. There were no frills. She has since devoriced but it won't be much longer and she will be planning a wedding with the right guy! I am glad we go to the bottom of everything though with her! I feel relieved. Thats great. I think with friends the best thing to do is just talk about it.

You know, I saw hats like this in the target dollar section. Hmmm...I can spare a dollar.

Your girls are gonna LOVE It!!! Superimposing is the best! The photo album is also full of silly pictures. Most are pictures of us girls looking ridiculous. Usually me. I put them together this weekend & laughed the whole time. I'll post pictures once they are done.

Won't it scratch off of the plastic? I got rubons at ACMoore. They have them at Michael's too. The pen is a paint pen. It was in an aisle with wood stuff. It all stays on even in the dishwasher. Post them when you are done!

I've also learned so much while making my stuff, but it's too late to use it for my wedding.

I added some fun designs to my guestbook. I need to finish it & order this weekend. There are a few pages missing from here, but I'll post a few. I just learned how to add these designs in photoshop. I'm having so much fun with them! Guest will sign with a sharpie. UPDATE: I'm getting an archival quality pen from a craft store so the ink doesn't fade. Thanks Autumn for the tip

Dye to make water turquoise
rodent replied to nylalany's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
Food coloring works. It fades over time, but nothing you'd need to worry about. We took all the chemicals from a guy in my lab & made replicas of them. Then we put water & food coloring in the replicas. It took weeks, but his expression when he noticed was worth it. We still have the bottles with food coloring in them. They are lighter now (2 years later) but they are still colored. -

Sorry pic is so big... can't seem to resize it...also can't get siggy any bigger GRRRRRRRRR I saw those last week. They are the exact same cups, just in different colors. They look cute!

All you mods & your mod secrets. OK, I'll wait & see what's happening.

Sounds like too much work for the mods who already have enough to take care of. What if we just make it a tradition to have a starfish if we bought it or got it from someone else. Then we can have a collection of pictures with everyone with starfish in their bouquets, but it doesn't have to be the same one.

Rachel, is the one you just received one that you had personally ordered or is it one of the original traveling ones? If it is one you bought, and you want to start it on a journey after your wedding, I'd love to give it a Hawaiian adventure in July! We could have it be a PNW traveling starfish.. Just a thought when do you leave for your wedding? I can send you mine after I get back june 25th. It's blue, so it covers two of the four. If you would prefer white, you can probably get one from someone. I'd either want it back, or I'd want it to make a journey where I knew who had it. But if it will sit on a shelf & collect dust, it might as well be my shelf
