Also we live in the 21st century, do we really need to use bone ash in plates? read this:"You have probably noticed cups and plates often carry the label “Bone Chinaâ€. Does it really mean they are made of bones ? Bone China is a product of a technique perfected in England to add bone ash of animals to the clay, resulting in delicate looking but very strong china. Sometimes, it does not carry the label “bone china†but it can be easily recognized as it has more transluency and whiteness than normal porcelain. How it’s made Calcined bone ash makes up about 50% by weight of the final body recipe. It is produced from animal bone, which is first processed to remove any adhering meat which is generally sold as pet food. The bone is then treated to remove glue, which is processed and upgraded for use in normal applications where glue is used, and also for the sizing of expensive paper. The raw bone which is left after the meat and glue have been extracted is then heated to about 1000 C at which temperature any residual organic material is burned off and the structure of the bone is changed to form suitable for the manufacture of bone china. It is then finally ground with water before being added to clay." It is something still done? From the little googling I did, it sounded like it was in antique china. I don't want to drink out of a tea cup made out of animal bones. I'm not registering for China. I have no interest in owning it.

I think you have inspired so many girls to do it. I hope the experience has made you feel like the hot, fierce woman you are.
  4. now I'm working on sappy letters to go on the first inside page.

I spent a lot of time scanning them in, because many are from before I had a digital camera. Once I started planning a DW & decided not to have BMs, I wanted to still make these.

My friend has it & she was really uncomfortable with the deep v neckline. She's pretty modest. Another reason why letting them pick is a great idea.
  7. http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t18266 They are just about finished!
  8. I like the first. If you like them both, I think letting them pick is great.
  9. As many of you know, I'm not having actual bridesmaids, but I'm having 8 honorary BMs. All an HBM does is get their heads superimposed on a silly picture. It was just a way to tell 8 of my friends I love them without the hassle of having BMs. Most of them can't attend the wedding anyway. Here are the albums I just finished making. I tried to pick the silliest pictures of us: Planning details: The plastic albums were 50 cents at AC Moore. They hold 24 pictures. I bought 1000 prints off ebay for snapfish for $13 to keep print costs low. I had to print over 200 pictures to fill 8 of these. Here is the thread about superimposing thier heads on pictures http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t16614 I also bought a quote stack at AC Moore about friends. There are some quotes throughout the books. Then I typed up my own captions & taked them to a few pictures. I can't wait to give these to 3 of my HBMs on Friday when they fly up. I still need to finish up one for a local friend so I can give them to the 2 locals friends. 2 girls will get there at the wedding & another will get hers when she drives to NC in May.

What happens when a starfish dies? does it fall off the stick? or lose all the stones? too bad BDW starfish can't regenerate.

But we've already gotten 2 Tiffany vases, a digital picture frame, a Waterford candle set, and a gift card. And my uncle (who is not coming to the wedding) sent us a very generous check. He gets it. Yet I have friends who keep asking me where I'm registered and when I tell them I'm not because I don't need or want anything, they tell me they'll come up with something "creative." I would NEVER tell them that I would prefer cash, but come on people, we're in our mid-30's, we own our house and fully renovated it already, we do pretty well for ourselves and buy ourselves whatever we want. What can you possibly give us that we still need or want Everyone knows we don't like clutter. Just give us cash or a gift card, seriously!!! I hope that doesn't sound ungrateful. that is exactly why I registered. So I don't end up with a bunch of vases & candles. I always give cash too.

Out of curiousity, what type of animal's bones are used for bone china? Its from animals were slaughtered for food so not as bad as I orignially thought. I thought it was like ivory where the animal is just killed for the one thing. Still, it sounds gross to me.

Dresses were loaned to the girls that were not in the 05 wedding. It was great to save that money on a BM dress, especially when I've spent so much on them throught the years.

That's cute. I have a feeling my DIY hankies are going to look pretty sad. But I think the moms will like them. Kind of like the coffee mug I painted for my mom in 2nd grade. Looks terrible, but she thinks its precious
  19. Thanks for sharing. I think it's really important to spread the word about stuff like that so consumers can avoid it if they don't approve. I will definitly never own bone china in my life now that I know what it is.

I wore it to a band concert (I have a picture of me wearing the puffy dress holding my trombone- I'll scan it if I find it). I got picked on so much at the concert. Pretty sad when your the one picked on out of all the other kids in the band I mean, there were some other nerds around that night. Many years later when I was in college I was working at a gym. One of my coworkers learned I had a scanner & asked if I'd scan some pictures for her. When she gave them to me, it was her in that puffy blue dress at a quincenera. I asked where she lived & sure enough it came from her garage sale.
