my tivo- $400 with a lifetime subscription. I love it! I actually watch less TV because I only bother with stuff I really like. And it's all on my schedule so it's really efficient.

Mike & I have the same degree (BS Microbiology). We both work in a university lab, but he's working for pay & I'm working for a degree so he makes more than me. I think several things contribute to men making more money. Women are more likely to sacrifice their career plans to accomidate their husbands. Women do not ask for raises as much. Mike is in his boss' office everytime he is eligible getting it bumped up as high as it will go. There are guidelines at the university for raises. I've never had the guts to do that. But, I hope in my next job I do. Right now my raises are automatic & not negotiable. Also, many women opt for less hours to have more family time. And there are women not comfortable making more than their husbands. I see things turning. Mike moved with me so I could follow my career goals. There are so many men here that did the same. A few years ago women passed up men in numbers for medical school enrollment.

This is when I was first learning photoshop. Now I know this probably isn't the best way to do it, but I'm not sure if there is a better way using photoshop elements. There are cooler ways with CS3. But, it gets the job done.

I have never been to a wedding with a seating plan & I've been to a ton of weddings. There is always just an assigned table for the bridal party. It works out fine & eliminates a lot of work.

Any particular reason not to consider mexico? I was originally trying to avoid mexico because I've been to cancun. I wanted to go somewhere new. But, it was the best price for our guests. I picked riviera maya & I couldn't be more thrilled. There is so much to do there that I didn't do when I was there before. It will be a totally different experience. I would love to go somewhere new, but I'm glad I picked something affordable for my guests. With airfare geting so high it helped that my hotel was cheaper. But, I thought DR was inexpensive too. I think most important to check with is parents. If they are happy with the price then do whatever you want. Make it clear to guests they don't have to go. Then you don't have to worry about the cost.

We didn't get charged for the 2nd checked bag leaving Raleigh for Cancun, or leaving Cancun to get back to Raleigh, NC. We were told by some of our guests that you are allowed 2 checked bags on US Air if flying internationally--we thought they were giving us a break bc we told the ladies we were getting married-hehe. All four of our checked bags weighed between 47-49 lbs (thank goodness-we were nervous about that!) and we carried 72 votive candle holders as well as our sand unity set--- only one votive candle broke- everything else got there safely and with zero problems! I stressed alot about getting everything down there, and we had no problems.... If you booked your trip on US airways before the rule change you don't get charged. RDU is my airport too

Rebecca (becks) to btb. She cracks me up on a daily basis. Plus she is so willing to help with anything. She offered me her veil to borrow before her wedding knowing that I would most likely get ferret hair all over it. AnnR for Mrs. Even with the difficult week she has had she managed to log on & post pictures. That is a star BDWer!

I haven't found anything quicker than that. But, I was uploading them to photobucket. FTP would be a lot faster. It's also a good way to get the big pictures. -

That would be interesting. Right now Mike makes more than me, but it's because I'm in grad school. Not sure what it will be like once I have a phd. I don't strive to make a lot of money. I like good hours, vacation time, & a job I like doing & feel good about. Mike cares more about his income. I prefer just to live cheaper & invest well and not work as hard.

Is the DR generally cheaper than Mexico?
rodent replied to McCheng's topic in Destination Weddings in Dominican Republic
For me (looking at flights out of houston) Riviera Maya was cheaper. I used funjet.com just to scan packages & get an idea how much stuff costs. This was last summer though. -
my concern with just going with my camcorder is the sound quality while we are saying our vows. That is the main time I want good sound. Also, I would have to ask someone to do the video. Not sure if anyone wants to have to work during the wedding & stand up & tape. But, I know how to do the editing & wouldn't mind doing that myself. I actually want to do my own editing. I just learned that the video I get wouldn't be something I could put on my computer & montage with my pictures. So I'm not sure that I want it. I might just go back to using my camcorder. BTW, it's a pretty ncie one I got used on amazon. When you buy a camcorder, don't forget to factor in that they come with short life batteries & you will need to budget for a better battery. I might email people coming to the wedding & see if someone would volunteer to video. I love my DIY projects so i really want to be able to do editing myself. I'm waiting to hear back if there is an option for me to get the raw footage. We'll be filming stuff through the whole week. I think it would be cool to put it all together.

Asking guests to stay at an all-inclusive resort
rodent replied to McCheng's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
AIs are great for groups. You don't have to coordinate getting the group together to go eat or go out somewhere. The appeal of a DW wasn't just the ceremony on a beautiful beach. I love the idea of all being at the same hotel having fun together. I can't wait! -

Thanks for clearing that up for everyone.

i don't think it's too personal to ask, because people don't have to answer. I make $25,000 (starting in july $26,000), as a graduate student in a science program. When you are getting your phd in a science field, you are much like an employee. I work in a lab all day and in exchange tuition is waved (we only take classes the first year) and we get a stipend to live off of. It's a nice trade off. $25,000 doesn't sound like a lot, but we live very good. Mike has a real job, but we keep everything seperate for now (changing next month). I pay half the rent, etc. I'm able to max out my IRA each year, save for a down payment on a house once we settle somewhere & still live very good. I'm very to see I can live so well on this ammount. I've had a full salary before, but it was before grad school so i was stashing away 1/2. I don't know what it feels like to live off a full salary. I'm still in budget concious, college mode.

Asking guests to stay at an all-inclusive resort
rodent replied to McCheng's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
I picked a very affordable AI so I didn't feel bad asking everyone to stay there. I wrote, "we hope you will joine as at the catalonia." Then I stated there is an $80 fee to enter the hotel. I dind't say who would pay it. It probably would have depended on how many people stayed elsewhere. I worked hard to get a good travel package & my guests were very happy with the cost of the trip. The way I felt is if people didn't want to stay with us, I'd rather them not go. I just wanted a small group & only people who really did want to make the trip. We've made it super easy for people to skip it. We'll only have 24 guests & I'm very happy with that. We are all staying at the AI together & I think we'll have a blast. -

I would ask for no effects too. Then you should have some nice pictures. WTF.... Why are they so vague? Ha Ha! My WC answers stuff like this too. It's like its a telegraph & she is paying by the word. It would be nice if they just put the answers to all the common questions together. Someone mentioned claudia being booked. Check on Citalli or Erick. They are both very good. I'm really surprised dreams is limiting it this much. It is not as bad as other hotels because atleast they have a good option, but I think they should put more photographers on their list.
