  1. It's the hotel next to mine. here is an arial map of it. One nice thing is that it is right by a marina. Captain ricks, a great deep sea fishing charter, leaves right out of that marina. I have heard that sunscape wasn't nice so hopefully they will improve it now that it is a dreams.
  2. I think dreams might just be $25 per person. There is a dreams cancun, puerto aventuras & tulum. at some hotels they don't charge per person if your dinner is at the buffet.

I do think it's best to not do a lot of them so people just have time to mingle. I like a couple ice breakers & then just be social. I've been to some showers where you have these elaborate games that feel like homework.
  9. I'm off the hook. Mike's 3rd friend canceled so now none of the guys are going. Mike is just going to go alone over spring break. I still earn good wife points for being willing to do the trip. He is so dissapointed none of his friends are going. This has been planned for a year. he is really upset right now. And all I can think about is not having to walk all day stinking of baby powder & sweat

It would not make sense if it did....what if a person had a budget for vacation for a whole family expected to pay one price, but they are already booked and freakin screwed if fuel goes up! Ill check up the travel america insurance... when you fly international they can do so many things to you. I've heard stories of people being in mexico & showing up to check in & then being told there is now a $100 departure fee that has to be paid in only pesos. So they had to scramble to get the money in time to get on their flight. when i went to london last year they added an $80 departure fee after we booked. we atleast had a couple months notice so we knew to have the money with us.

I know I'll want a big meal when we get back. There is a little store there, but I don't know if they have the stuff that will satisfy my mega post hike hunger.
  12. If it is true that she can cancel you 7 days prior, that is really great. Also, she was doing a good job to warn you about the new fuel surcharge. I'd first find out the details because she might be doing everything right. Did you book through funjet? if not, the insurance deal isn't always the same. there is access america insurance you can buy after you booked.

Did you guys do the legal part in your hometown and not mexico to avoid the blood work and legal stuff down there (translation etc)? We're in the same boat and are going to be doing the legal ceremony here in a very casual/informal fashion. I do feel a bit guilty as our friends/family won't be there to witness but the way i look at it is, i won't feel actually married until i'm in my dress with the aisle, the flowers, our friends, family etc etc etc. Do you agree? Should I feel bad that we're doing this without everyone? We too won't celebrate this day as our anniversary as it's merely for the paperwork. We'll be doing the 'renewal of vows/religious ceremony' in mexico so it's a) cheaper and since we'll already be married, we'll be getting all the 'honeymoon' perks!! so it actually works out great! Any comments? Thanks!! (kinda stressing about/feeling guilty). Allie~ I felt the same at first. Like we'd be tricking everyone or something. We were very secretive about the way we were doing it at first. We planned on making legal day uneventful to not take away from the actual day. As it got closer I started getting excited about the legal day & realized that we can just make it it's own seperate fun thing. I started telling everyone so just about all our guests know. Everyone sounds happy about it. We live out of state from all of our family. We just invited 2 friends to come with us as witnesses. We made a really silly, fun day out of it. But, I don't really feel married. I'm not going by my new name just yet and we didn't exchange rings. We opened a joint checking account this week and that made me feel more married than actually getting married did. Also, as my ceremony approaches I've realized that nothing can take away the anticipation & special feelings about that day. I was worried our guests would feel like "whats the point, they are already married." but, I think the ceremony will still be special to them too. I'll report back if it felt weird for any reason once we got there We did it this way for several reasons 1. It's $1,000 cheaper. This varies by hotels, but the legal package was $1,000 more than the symbolic. 2. I was able to set our date much earlier because they didn't need to schedule the judge. I wanted the date set last july so I could start sending out save the dates. We booked our trip in august. I would have been nervous doing all of that before we were scheduled. 3. Once I'm in mexico I don't really want to spend time with legal stuff like the blood work. I don't have an issue with having my blood drawn, but I don't want to spend time doing that when i could be at the beach. 4. We want our certificate ASAP & I think it can take a while to do all the stuff when it's from mexico. Translations, etc. Once we are married mike can work out at the duke university gym with me & he has been so anxious for that spouse pass. I joke that he is marrying me for the spouse pass. Our gym shut down 1 1/2 years ago & we considered a shotgun wedding so he could get a spouse pass. It also allows him to get in to duke basketball games. 5. We want to do our own personal ceremony & have it be in english. The legal cermeony has to be a specific script & is in spanish. The words in that ceremony don't really reflect us like the script we are using does. 6. our wedding is on a saturday, so even if we did it legal in mx the date on our certificate would say friday's date. 7. any excuse to eat fajitas is good for me The two friends that came as witnesses were excited to share in this day with us. Neither can attend the wedding so it was a great way to still be a part of it.
  14. we played one where you split in to teams & had a scanvenger hunt with your purse. There was a list of things & they were worth different points. it was pretty amusing to see what people had with them. No one had to dump their purse out, but they dug through it to find things. one thing was a rock & this girl had a big rock that she takes with her everywhere. Its her lucky rock. It was so funny.

I wouldn't think it would be like bridezillas where they gather up the worst moments.
  16. What in the world is that about? I've seen weird subtitles on live shows. When closed caption was new we thought it was so cool so we'd just watch shows with it on to be like "ohh look their are words." One time we were watching the country music awards & someone must have had to type the lyrics as the artist sang. Not sure why they didn't just get the lyrics before. I can't remember what they typed but it was something we laughed about for years. story for the letdown to that story. You'll just have to trust me it was funny.

I should check! This is too funny! I'm starting to regret not doing RSVPs. They sounds kind of amusing.
  18. Congrats! I wish I was leaving monday, too!
  19. You would have to have bought the funjet insurance the day you booked. Before it went up the first time my TA contacted us all & we paid it off to avoid the fee. It was a new fuel surcharge. I do think it's understandable with how fast gas prices have gone up. It wasn't a big deal for my group because it was only a couple of weeks before payments were due. I was really glad she told us about it so we could save the $24 per person.
  20. i love that the bride has white camo. also, I'm not very impressed by the flowers being that that is a featured picture on a flower website. Someone posted several pictures of the bride with the red sash thing on the forum. It was pretty tragic.
  21. Most hotels say you have an english speaking officiant. Some girls have had great experiences & others have had their name mispronounced or an officiant that was hard to understand. I'm emailing my script to me WC. It's completely changed from what they normally do. Their standard script didn't suit us at all. I'm just going to take my chances & if it doesn't work out, I'll still be glad we did it. I want to save a copy of the script & I'll be glad it was the words that I loved. We are also writting our own vows so that part is up to us to get right.
  22. they hang a sonic banner at duke basketball games & we don't have any around here either.
  23. I'm a DIYer so I am just getting digital negatives & making all of my own photobooks. I am making one for my mom, his parents, my dad, my grandma & his grandparents. Our families love photobooks. I just got the moms a small gift for the wedding day & the main gift will be the photobooks.
