  2. I set up my ebay watch list for some used 30D & 20Ds. I'll go to a store & pick them all up to see how the difference in weight feels.
  3. does $220 for the flash sound right? $500 camera $84 lens $220 flash $804

If you agree, consider getting a used 20D or 30D on ebay - you will be able to find the former for under $400, the latter for under $600. The 50mm 1.8 is precisely the lens to start with. Don't bother with the "kit" 18-55mm lens, it's junk. I would spend your extra money on a flash, maybe a used 430ex - a good flash will make an enormous difference in your photography, even more so if you buy a kit that will allow you to take it off camera. Zooms vs. primes are largely a matter of personal preference - I almost bought a 20mm prime lens to do photojournalism work, but I ended up with the 16-35mm f/2.8 due to autofocus speed. Thanks for the feedback. I do think I want something small & light. I worry that if something is too bulky, I won't want to take it everywhere. So should I be good with the one 50mm lens & a flash to start? Then I can put more lenses on my wishlist. I'll go look up the flash.
  5. #1 will be great for a TTD. The more flowiness a dress has the better it looks in the water.
  6. UPDATE I just bought a 30D from someone on another forum for $525. Then I bought a 50mm f/1.8 lens for $90. I still have some other things to buy, but I can still get started with what I have. my wish list: Canon Speedlite 580EX II Flash $400 Canon EF 28mm f/1.8 wide angle $400

I think I might be a little afraid of the turtle. he has this look in his eyes like he wants to kill me.
  10. i like it. the night of our wedding when we were taking the steamy nighttime TTD pics, mike's parents came walking down the beach. We are stading on sharp rocks & I have my leg wrapped around him. It was pretty funny. They were coming to tell us that there was a giant sea turtle laying eggs on the beach. we walked down there, but it was too dark to see her. we could only see her in the pictures taken with flash.
  11. we had a wedding the same size. people seated themselves. I told our parents to take the front row. I'm sure everyone would have known to leave it open for them. I also spread the word that people could sit anywhere. it did end up with the traditional seating of his family on the right & mine on the left. But, then friends were mixed on both sides. We had an equal number of family members, but more of my friends came. I think there were only a few extra seats so it had to be balanced on both sides. I prefer it that way. Oh, I just realized why there were 2 extra seats. I counted our photographers as guests for the dinner so they gave them a seat at the ceremony.
  12. ha ha i love it. what's the whistle for? so guests can find each other? "don't forget the family whistle" to alert the bartender you need another drink? to ref beach volleyball? I bought the OT hibiscus coin purses & stuck a carrabeaner on them. That was probably the most useful thing in the OOT bag. I always had mine with me with my room key, some ones, and emergency lip gloss.

  14. find a workout you enjoy. i have a bunch of workout dvds that i put on my portable dvd player & do while I watch TV. I also have friends that come over to workout with me. It's fun. Actually that's what I did tonight. some of my favorites: turbo jam hip hop abs denise austin pilates you can rent stuff on netflix & see if you like it before buying anything. You can't watch tv & do some of these workouts at first, but once you get it down it's easy. Another thing that can help is finding healthy things to eat at work so you eat reguarly. Is there a trader joes in your area? I love that place for getting easy to make, healthy food. have a lot of healthy snacks around. I think the key is making being healthy fun & not painful. Go for walks with friends instead of talking on the phone in the evening. or see if your husband wants to go for a walk with you. the endorphins you get from a workout makes you feel so great. Also, you'll probably start to have more energy. also, the better it feels to be healthy, the more likely you are to make it a lifestyle change.
  15. welcome back! Congrats & go rest!! It takes a while to recover
  16. a mod will move your post, but you only post once in the newbie section. there is a section for budgets. I think it's very possible. Just watch your budget on the things you don't care as much about so you can splurge where it matters. some all inclusive hotels will give you a free dinner or cocktail reception with a certain number of guests.
  17. we were engaged exactly a year. I had been lurking on the forum a few months before we got engaged & had riviera mexico decided on for the location. although I spent a year, it doesn't need to take a year. I could have done it much faster if I had less time.
  18. Welcome. You'll find tons of info about mexico on this forum. I can't recall any aruba or cayman brides, but I may have missed it. I know some people have said they were first interested in aruba, but it was too expensive. but, if you know it's something your guests can afford it might be a great option. oct/ nov is peak hurricane season & they say aruba is below the hurribane belt. Not sure about PV. I think that side is fine, but I'm not sure. I would think caymen would be at more risk during hurricane season.
  19. aww, what a sweet legal day. I love how simple & relaxed legal day is Destination brides get the best of both worlds!!

You just can't take it all in. I want to see the guests, relive the ceremony, & see what happened before I got there.
