Hi wondered what you did while in PV. We are going in 5 days earlier than the wedding festivities. We're on the lookout for horseback riding, dolphins, parasoling...anything else we'll be missing? It will be NY's Eve when we arrive so fireworks for sure on the schedule w/ a beach picnic. We're so excited we're about to BUST!!!

I agree. The closer we get to finalizing our wedding, the more we see bring it with us. We did ask Nicole and Kelley about shipping to them. They did not mind although they weren't certain it would be there for the wedding even months in advance. With that we'll take our chances on the plane. A few things I heard from Puerto Vallarta Bride was that: Do not put anything in the luggage you couldnt live without! Not that this will happen but it could, not be there when you opened your bags Definitely nothing of true value. Bring that on the plane in your possession. One more thing she mentioned. Don't keep open tabs with credit cards. Not a good idea!!! Cash is good in Mexico theirs or ours! USA

Las Caletas Cakes
chrisnessa replied to chrisnessa's topic in Destination Weddings in Puerto Vallarta & surrounding areas
Hi Fondant is a thick dough like icing that can be rolled out and wrapped around a cake. It makes a beautiful smooth like cake cover with a seamless finish. Most of the bridal cakes shown in magazines have fondant icing. Fondant won't drip or melt, it seals in moisture, and it makes the cake really easy to assemble. Handled gently, the tiers can just be picked up and stacked — the fondant won't smudge or smear Usually there is another softer icing under it because the fondant as a whole isnt the best tasting icing in the world. It is Gorgeous to see and its all about presentation. Go to this site and you'll see fondant at its best:OH and its expensive Fondant Wedding Cakes many brides use this icing because the ability to shape it and have a smooth finish enables the baker to put the rest of the cakes designs on easier i.e: ribbons made out of fondant, flowers, etc. Click on the pics on the site and you'll see how the fondant lays perfectly over the cake. -

Las Caletas Cakes

I understand the tradition part. My dream was to marry in our Catholic Church and going to the ocean is quite a different type of wedding for planning. Nicole did mention that the amt of cake could be a consideration if we wanted to lower the cake budget. We are somewhere between 100 - 150 people so she said we could do maybe cake for 75. Reasoning was that not everyone would want cake and there was a large dessert area for the ones wanting another sweet. Since the cake is per person we are considering those numbers once we get our final count. We asked for the final count to come Oct. 1 due to planning and the fact its destination. Unfortunately for cost its high season in Puerto Vallarta and flights/rooms will be taken quickly. It has really been fun planning the wedding. There are so many things Nicole is doing for us and we are trying to put our individual stamp on our day. This forum has helped so much especially since the brides before us have already done this. Yeah...Im so excited. I've been trying to get pics on my VBPic Gallery and they dont seem to hook up. When I figure that out I'll have some pics of the cake we want on there. Happy Planning -
Las Caletas Cakes

Yes, that's correct about the price of the basic cake they offer. $3.50 pp We requested butter cream icing and that made the cake $5.00 pp because its a different request then their basic cake offer. (chocolate or white cake and icing...I believe) The baker is on LC and not equipped like the bigger cakery in PV. Nicole mentioned if we wanted something the baker couldn't do, we could look into the PV bakery. We are still working on what to do about this. We do want a cake as part of our wedding and tradition thats why this is an important part of our plans. I have heard the LC cakes are good so please just send Nicole a pic w/ specifics on what you want, if she can make it happen there on location she surely will, if not the PV bakery is another option. But yes as mentioned above its an added cost if you want to include a cake in the wedding. (I am not sure if the baker can do fondant but Nicole will surely ask him.) Keep us posted if you find out anything else on this. -
We definitely will be looking for new pics of the weddings before us. I think I've exhausted the ones I have seen on here. Hahaha We'll make sure we get some really details things (pics) advice we have after our wedding for those coming after us. It looks so great out there. Talked to my soon to be brother in law who introduced us to Las Caletas. He said when he attended a wedding out there he Loved It. And thats from a GUY so we can't wait. WooHoo!~!

Customs in Mexico - declaring wedding stuff
chrisnessa replied to PDCwedding's topic in Honeymoon Forum
Hi Brides: From what I just read I decided to print in Spanish a paper that I will include in the bags should we need it. Stating that this is not for resale but instead for our wedding. Secondly, it appears if we get a green light grab the largest of the bags with the most stuff and get out of there quickly. Have cash on hand. 100.00 and a baggage guy might just get all of our stuff through. Have all Receipts for each item and make sure they do not exceed 300.00. Separate bulk items into different suitcases/and persons as to not trigger suspension of bag...especially as it goes through security. If any of you have any other ideas please post, especially those more recent brides as I'm sure things change often in Puerto Vallarta customs. TY.... Today is Sept 11, GOD BLESS THOSE WE LOST. -
Welcome bags.

What I have found out is that to request a specific design using different products than normal for the baker there is an upgrade charge of: 3.50 per person (Normal) 5.00 per person (Special requests) That is the amt of cost to have your cake and eat it too -
That was a great Idea. Keep em coming Brides.

I'd love to know the overall good and not so good about the rooms, food, bars, access to other parts of the city. Ive heard: hard beds, noisy by the elevators and facing the courtyard, food not up to par, sometimes no towels and not making up of bed, mixed up room assignments i.e no King Bed available. On the other hand the grounds are kept well and the staff is nice. I wonder about those above with older guests coming and back issues, of course because we've asked them to come at High season w/ high cost I hope the resort is up to its 5 star rating. So let me know how it goes!!! and congratulations. I'll be right behind you Jan 5

Not having chairs for guests on a beach wedding isnt a big deal at all. You can arrange the setting for the guest to be a part of the wedding...by having them stand in a circle like the ring. And the guest will close up the ring as you enter and then open as you leave. Ive seen the group hold candles as part of the ceremony as they stood. Theres a lot of things you can do or just allow them to stand. As long as the ceremony isnt a longggggg one they'll be fine. Give them the flower petals to toss or a glass of champagne or wine to celebrate right after and they'll be good to go.

Is anyone buying their BM dresses??
chrisnessa replied to cessyboston's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
We bought two of them for some who didnt have the finances. I have heard of the bride and groom doing this for all but thats if they are loaded. Otherwise, its fine for the women to purchase their own dress and thats more the norm. -
Question about wedding coordinator
chrisnessa replied to PaulaV's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
So is it fair to say that you tip your WC $100 Her assistant $50 The Minister $100 Me confused here. I know we dont have to but is that what most of you are doing? -
Get stationery matching your colors and have a box or basket by the sign in table. SEND A LITTLE ADVISE OR GOOD WISHES TO THE NEW COUPLE. Place in box and read when you get home. They are hilarious. Ribbon cut in long strips. Guest will sign a good wish and tie on the alter. Or anything else you choose to place them. GOOD WISHES Everyone is handed a candle w/ a leaf or card at the base for protection of spillage and with the unity candle they light their candle and hold during a certain part of the ceremony. Your groomsmen could help them light it. So its a unity of the group coming together. If you arent going to carry flowers. How about a cross or a bible. Hang seashells from fishing wire down from the top of the bamboo alter Add little vignettes around the beach for photo shoots or interesting sitting areas. i.e : piles of seashells with color blown glass ball and a fishing net, little sand castles now put candles around it for drama and lighting when the sun goes down How about some lighting in the trees: There are lights that will circle like a ferriswheel or shoot lights all around the dance floor to give it a fun feel at night. Or even lights that are your color scheme put into lights around the area. On a budget: Silks are made now that look like the real thing. Bouquets and boutonnieres can be made to duplicate that gorgeous but expensive bouquet. Trash the Dress Photos are becoming very popular and fun to do. Long family style table seating is a fun way to make everyone feel apart of the conversation. While your there put up a bamboo canopy w/ an overhang at the top and light the table with lots of votic candles down the long tables. Fabulous Slideshows are a Hit When you have the opportunity to change the setting from ceremony, to drinks, to dinner and dance do so. It helps keep the guests interested. Ask a friend who sings or does a special entertainment to do it for your guests. It'll be fun for them and the others. Take 15 mins alone with your new husband. Run to another room and give kisses and hugs. Its the only time at this moment you get this type of moment. Mr. and Mrs. go give a quick I love you and kiss before you start the evening off. Just the 2 of you! And don't tell anyone you are doing it...makes for more fun. Give your input...I know you have a lot of good stuff to share with us.
