Appropriate to Request Prelim RSVP?
Can'tHardlyWait replied to BillysBride's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
I am not sure if this is an option for you, but what about sending a save the date with a link to a wedding website, where all the details for the wedding will be posted. Most of these sites also give an rsvp option, and you can ask guests to RSVP on the website so you have a count of who is coming. Then, when it's closer to the weddding you can send out invitations without reply cards (or with reply cards to get everyone's food options or something)... I just think you want to wait a little before sending out wedding invites, but thats just my opinion -
I remember when I was dress shopping, I tried on a veil that was 2300! I think the price can really vary depending on where you go and how much detail you are looking for. The place I bought my dress doesnt do alterations, but they recomended someone els eto me who said she could do all my alterations and matching veil for around 500, which seemed like a good deal to me

Funny Cake Topper
Can'tHardlyWait replied to Heidi's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
That's great! Where did you find it? I think that one might be too much for our crowd, but they might have others -
Urgh... I think the ladies have covered everything I was thinking to say, so I will just add how much people suck... and the worst part is that when it comes to weddings its never just "people" its always your freakin family... grrrr

My wedding plans at Occidental are in full swing (only 4 months away... YIKES!), so I just wanted to throw my two cents in. I picked Occidental because I really loved that it wasn't one massive hotel... instead it was lots of 3 floor buildings surrounded by tons of trees, plants and flowers... to me that was huge! I wanted my guests to feel like they were in a tropical paradise, but still give them a high class hotel. So... I went down for a site visit in August, and I haveto say I loved the hotel! It looked exactly like the pictures I saw on the website. Everything from the pools, rooms, and ceremony/receptions site was exactly what I wanted. Edith, the WC, was great and pretty much told me not to expect much planning earlier than 3-4 months out because she does a wedding a day all year round. Now for the downer: I was SOOO disappointed with the reception food selection. I mean, like, really disappointed. The food for the sit down dinner was fine, but the selection for the cocktail hour was mediocre at best. It wasnt that it tasted bad, its just that it tasted like the food I had been eating at the buffets all week long (I am talking quesadillas, fried shrimp, chicken on a stick, etc). I had really hoped they would do something different for the wedding, and that just wasnt the case. As someone who has never attended a DW, I guess I cant really compare, but I have seen the menus for other hotels and they atleast looked more impressive. Regardless, it wasnt enough to make me change the wedding venue... The beach... definitely small. I like being on a beach, but I wouldnt call myself a "beach lover" so it was ok for me. My FMIL is obsessed with the beach and she didnt complain once, so I guess it all depends on how high your expectations are going into it. Ok, now that I wrote a whole book on Occidental, I think I'll stop Let me know if you need any other information on this hotel. I am finally at the point where I am talking to the WC's on a daily basis.

Wow, those look like they took a lot of planning and hard work... and they are PERFECT for a DW! Seriously, I wish I had that kind of patience (and skill, hehe) to come up with something so creative. Be proud of what you did and nicely remind her that what's "proper" for a NY wedding isnt the same as a DW... FMIL and I have had that conversation atleast a gazzilion times!

traveling starfish

Some people have had to buy a couple of starfish and it is really sad when someone who was promised to have it doesn't get it sent to them in time for their wedding. Sorry to be a downer about it. If you have any further questions please PM a mod. That's so sad! Some people just suck... Does anyone know where the journal that was traveling with it has gone to? I remember a few of the girls talking about writing in it and passing it on last summer... -

Vista print menu (pics)
Can'tHardlyWait replied to StephanieMN's topic in General Wedding Planning Information
That looks GREAT! I had no idea vista print did stuff like this... We aren't doing menus, but I am definitely going to look into this for the ceremony programs -
How many times have you heard this...
Can'tHardlyWait replied to JUSTUSTWO's topic in Just venting or funnies
I hear where you are coming from, but I would like to offer a different perspective: maybe everyone is bringing up gifts because they feel guilty that they can't be there for your special day. I remember last year I forgot to reply "no" to a wedding of a friend and he actually had to call me to to ask my response. I was so mortified that he had to call PLUS I had to say I wasn't coming... as soon as we got off the phone I went on their registry and sent a gift. Its not that I thought he called for a gift... it was my own guilt at not being able to make it to his wedding AND forgetting to tell him! -
Congratulations!!!

I am just seeing this thread now for the first time... WOW!!! I love those pictures... like many of the girls, I have never heard of bridal portraits, but I think it's SUCH a great idea! You look beautiful and that dress is gorgeous!!! On a side note, I LOVE your shoes... can I ask where you got them?

Gazebo Flowers/Decor
Can'tHardlyWait replied to foxytv's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
I don't have any pictures, but what about hanging tulle or some light fabric from the sides and back and letting it blow in the wind. Kinda like the canopies I've been seeing in a lot of beach weddings... I have lots of canopy pictures if you are interested -
I can't log on from work!
Can'tHardlyWait replied to Can'tHardlyWait's topic in Just venting or funnies
I don't think I would get fired... mostly, I think I would just be humiliated to the point that I would be forced to quit. I took this job as temporary work hoping it would lead to a full time position, so I really don't want to blow it... it sucks being a "mature" grown up! -
I can't log on from work!
Can'tHardlyWait replied to Can'tHardlyWait's topic in Just venting or funnies
Urgh, so frustrating! The worst part is that all I want to do all day is log on and when I finally get home I have to clean up and make dinner I am definitely going through withdrawal -

Where are you registered?
Can'tHardlyWait replied to michelle08's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
We are registered at crate and barrel, bloomingdales, fortunoff, and Macys (but we only registered for one thing there so i dont know if that counts)... no honeymoon registry though. We figured we would just use any cash we are given towards the honeymoon. -
Fans, Parasols or Both?
Can'tHardlyWait replied to Martha's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
I am having both. My plan is to give all the guys fans and all the girls parasols. Also, I am having groomsmen hand them out so that people can turn them down if they don't want to use it. -
dress I didn't wear for sale
Can'tHardlyWait replied to Christine's topic in Buy / Sell / Trade Archives
I already have a dress, but I just wanted to say I LOVE the train on that dress! -
I haven't been on the forum in freakin forever because of the stupid internet tracker thing at my job. Apparently the managing partner has nothing better to do with his time other than check out the website filter to see what his attorneys are looking at! Urgh, get a life! I have been at my new job for about 6 or 7 weeks now, and I am about ready to quit! Normally I would say that the office manager is just blowing smoke up my ass, but I was talking to one of the secretaries and she told me she was actually written up for surfing on the clock... Everyday I come home and by the time I make dinner and settle down stupid FI comes home and monopolizes all my time! Everytime I am actually able to log on I am like 2,000 posts in the hole... whats a girl to do?!?!?!

Congratulations Jessica!!! He is so beautiful and perfect! Can't wait to hear all the details
