  3. Finally a post where I can brag about saving money (see alterations, dress and invitations posts . I am getting a really awesome deal, partially b/c my wedding is off-season in the states, and partially b/c the photographer isn't super well known yet and wants to build his portfolio to include more destination weddings. I am paying a flat fee of $3000 ($1000 for his travel, which I booked, and $2000 for his photog. services). For this fee I am getting: - 3 hours of photography for the rehearsal/rehearsal dinner - All day the day of the wedding (no time limit) - Trash the dress/day after the wedding photos at the ruins (his suggestion) His portfolio is awesome. Check out his website: Jean-Marcus Strole - Photography I think his rates have gone up a bit, but he is still reasonable. He lives in Seattle and will fly anywhere. I will post a review when I get back from the honeymoon in November.
  4. Those look great! Quote: Originally Posted by Wisco4 They are awesome! But they look more like invites than save the dates to me... Are you sending out formal invitations as well? If so, I can't wait to see them!
  5. How fun. This gives me a reason to update my siggy. David looks weird in this picture, but he never reads this board so he won't know I posted it, haha.
  6. Thanks, Janet. That sounds super easy. I live like 5 minutes from there. Quote: Originally Posted by JANET1111 Then we walked across the street to Wendy's and got Frosty's! That's awesome, haha.
  7. Congratulations! I love the name Jackson. What a great choice!

I just did a double take just to make sure I didn't make a major typo. Please let me know if you cam find out the woman's name, but no worries if it's too much trouble. Thanks again!
  9. Hi Christine. If you could get her name, that would be awesome. Thanks!

  11. Dreams Cancun is less expensive (room rates), and I think it's easier to get a date there than in Cabo. My fiance and I wanted to have the wedding in Cabo, but there were no dates available when we wanted to get married, but we also wanted a short engagement so you could be fine with enough planning time. There is a lot of nightlife in Cancun, and the resort is super close to the airport.
  12. Welcome, Corey. My creativity level was right where yours was when I created my username. I have no idea why I put David first, haha. This board is awesome. If you have any questions, post away and you will get answers in no time.
  13. We are flying a photographer out. His work is incredible and he is very reasonable. Basically, we paid for his stay (it's an AI so his food and drink is included), airfare, and transportation to and from the airport, plus an agreed upon fee for his photog. services. I do not think it's traditional to pay for their food for the entire stay, but generally you should feed them on the day of the wedding as you would if you were having a local wedding. We booked his travel for him, but some photographers like to do it on their own, and then add it to the total charge for their services.
  14. Thanks, Lisa. It's kind of scary how easy it is to get married! Cost of License What is the cost of a marriage license? The marriage license fee is $30.00 dollars. Accepted forms of payment are cash. Residency Requirements What are the residency requirments for Virginia? None. You do not have to be a previous or current resident of Virginia to obtain a marriage license that is valid statewide. Waiting Period Is there a waiting period from the application date to the date the license is issued? No, you will receive your license immediately. Is there a waiting period from the date the license is issued to the date I am allowed to marry? No, you can marry immediately after receiving your license.
  15. David and I are getting married in VA before we go to Mexico. Something about the idea of paying someone $150 to stick needles in my arm in Mexico just doesn't sound appealing to me . Does anyone in VA know how the legal/courthouse ceremony works? I am sure I can google it and figure it out, but I thought it would be easier to talk to someone who has been through the process. Thanks!
  16. Awesome pictures! I love the dress change! You looked amazing in both of them. Congrats
  17. I use Philosophy "big mouth" in pink (it doesn't look bright pink on your lips like it does in the tube). It gives your lips a natural looking flush and plumps them up a bit. Great stuff! Amazon.com: philosophy big mouth lip plump - pink: Beauty
  18. I liked the first dress a lot, but I like this one even more. It looks great!
  19. I used this website Message in a Bottle ® - Official Site - Stranded to send them all messages in a bottle. They put sand and seashells in the bottle for you. I started each note with a different friendship quote that applied to the girl I sent it to (google search) and then used the quote as a guide for a paragraph about my favorite memories of our friendship. I closed each note asking them to be my bridesmaid. Every girl LOVED the message in a bottle. The website's customer service is top notch. They do everything for you (type the note as you specify, burn the paper edges, etc.) and the shipping is super fast. It's not cheap. If you are a DIY kind of girl, I am sure you could do it relatively inexpensive.
  20. Thanks for all your posts! I am going to try Movie Maker this weekend for our rehearsal dinner slide show. Thanks for the tips! Great videos!

Yes, I know that's a lot of $$$!!! I gave myself the same budget. Before I read this thread I thought I did a good job coming in under budget, haha. You still have time. I am sure the girls on the board can help you find a website or something that doesn't require DIY and is a little less expensive.
  22. Yikes, I feel ripped off. I spent a little over $900 for 75 invitations. That includes the postage (the stamps were custom with our picture on them) and caligraphy for the outside of the envelopes, though.
