  1. Any news? I am so crossing my fingers for you. We are supposed to close on our new house July 31 and I pray nothing comes up to mess that up. I can only imagine what you are going through - especially with your wedding just days away. So did you ever get all of these contracts in writing? We woulnd't move forward with anything until we had it all in written contract form. I hope that you do and that it all works out...
  2. Great votes, ladies! Keep 'em coming!
  3. Absolutely LOVED our Punta Cana wedding and my guests have already asked us to have an anniversary trip so we can all go back! I didn't compare prices with other places in the Caribbean ... but I have heard that Punta Cana, or the DR in general, is a good deal for the $$$ for Canadian brides b/c of flight prices.
  4. WOW - just beautiful! You are a beautiful bride and make a gorgeous couple!!! And your photographer was fantastic!

I know when I was planning my wedding, I wanted everyone to feel as though it was the most important thing - and it hurt my feelings when I felt like people placed more emphasis or importance on other things. But your wedding is NOT the most important thing going on, even though we like to think it is. And especially in this case, this is just DIFFERENT. I would almost guarantee that if you checked with the boutique, that they would change the date for you, given the circumstances ... however, I understand that your friends have already taken off work and it would be a hassle. So, it sounds like you are going to have to suck it up and take it from your FMIL if it's not worth it to you to change the appointment.
  6. Welcome! I think narrowing down your choices is one of the hardest parts - but also the first one you are able to check off your list. Once you have a location, the rest is a lot easier. Keep searching through the forum and you will find ssoo much information. I would also recommend contacting a TA who specializes in DW to your destination of choice. A TA will be able to help you narrow down the resorts and make your planning process a lot easier. Best of Luck!!!
  7. My DH was in Iraq for 14 months - starting just a week after we were engaged. He, too, got his 2 weeks of R&R, just like your future BIL ... and honestly I am taken aback by your insensitivity to what he and his family have been going through while he has been in Iraq. You obviously have no idea what type of stress and anxiety all involved are under when a loved one is overseas in war time.
  8. I voted #2. I am Catholic ... but rarely go to church - at least not in the last few years. There are some things about the Catholic church I just don't agree with anymore. However, I have tried non-denominational churches as well as other religions and Catholicism still holds the most truth for me. Although as I said, there are some things that I don't agree with - but I don't think we have to be 100% in agreement with our church. My DH was raised in a split religion family (mother Protestant/father Catholic) and said it was interesting to grow up that way. He has not practiced religion in forever, but has decided on his own to convert to Catholicism so that we can raise our family in a single faith. That decision means the world to me - especially since he made it on his own. He starts the process in September. And we have decided that we will go to church at least once a month once we have a child in order to bring our children up with a foundation of faith.
  9. Great nominations, ladies! Mine have already been named - so can't wait to vote!!!
  10. Oh WOW what a great review, and GREAT pics! You were so thorough with your review there should be no questions, lol! Fabulous job and I love all your pics - but especially the hands in the sand with the rings! OMG - great idea! PS - your hubby's ring is ssoo similar to my hubby's as well!
  11. Welcome, CONGRATS and enjoy the forum! It was a godsend for me as I planned our DW. We absolutely LOVED Paradisus Punta Cana - so I would definitely recommend looking into it. I have pics and a link to my review in my siggy as well.
  12. Oh Amarilis that is so exciting! I would love to see our wedding story in print! That is ssoo friggin' cool! Be sure to share the link when it's online!!!! YAY!!!!
  13. Love these ladies! I have several favorite 'happiest' pics ... but this one always gets me. I can not get over how happy and glowing my DH looks. This is during our first dance. It's a picture that was captured that could never be re-created. It always makes me smile and makes my heart flutter to see the love on his face!
  14. Karima - It's just beautiful - and flatters your frame so well! CONGRATS on finding *the one*!!!!
  15. You are so close to your date! Can't wait to see your planning thread with everything you have done - and then PICS when you get back from your big day!
  16. Can't help you with the candy buffett - but just wanted to say I LOVE your "Almost Married" reception idea before the wedding! I think that's great! That way you don't have to stress about an AHR once you get home!
  17. YAY!!!! Hope you are having a fantastic time and can't wait to hear all about it and read your review and see PICS when you get back - and onto a non-Spanish computer, lol!
  18. They will be able to send you a corrected certificate and then you can disregard the incorrect one. In the meantime, see if they can fax/email you something stating there is a mis-spelling or something to that effect so that if you need to move forward with your name changes, etc ... you will have something on hand if necessary. How bad is the mis-spelling?
  19. Welcome and CONGRATS! Love to see other Punta Cana area brides on here! Best of luck planning!
  20. Why not bring your own centerpieces and organza for the bows and save yourself a LOT of money? I went to the Dollar Tree and Old Time Pottery and bought the plates, votives and votive holders ... wrapped and packed them, brought them in an old suitcase and then added sand and shells upon arrival and our centerpieces were fantastic. I also printed our dinner menus myself to add a pop of extra color to the tables. Just a thought to avoid the BS of fighting over prices with a new WC and saving a good bit of money...
  21. Yep, we had fake rings for my nephews and the BM had the real deals in his pocket.
  22. Can't wait to hear about LaRomana! Congrats on being able to check one more thing off your list.
