I didn't think I had any symptoms, but it turns out the big-ass goiter was what was causing me to be hoarse and sound raspy so often. The lump in my throat was visible, but I presume since it had been there for so long (years and growing, it seems) that I just thought it was normal. I actually went to see a doctor when viewers (I worked in TV at the time) who happened to work in the medical field started to write letters, email and call to say they thought I had a suspicious growth in my neck that I needed to get checked out. If it's been reason for pause with either you or the school doctor ... I would have someone else check it out, even if your TSH test results are fine ... just to be on the safe side.

I don't have problems with my thyroid anymore. I get tested every year and have had normal levels always. But I had a growth in my neck several years ago and they were convinced it was thyroid cancer, even when the biopsy was inconclusive. Turns out it was a golf-ball sized goiter attached to my thyroid, so they took out half my thyroid. The thyroid is such an important functioning part of our bodies ... I'm glad they caught your hypo- and are able to treat it! Is the medicine you are taking at all like Synthroid in that once you start it you have to take it always?

Paradisus Punta cana Brides- DJ or IPOD

Only I never figured out exactly which cables were needed, so I simply transfered the different playlists to CD's and that worked fine. I also had a CD for pre-ceremony / ceremony / post ceremony, etc so we played our own music for the ceremony as well (and I left my CD's with the WC so they should have them, lol). -

AND ... just got my new MAC for an early b-day present from DH ... so I"m back in business and won't be MIA again for so long! Quote: Originally Posted by townie princess Is the veil still for sale? So far, I've gotten a beautiful cutting board with an "H" monogram on it in a darker color wood. (It's so nice I wonder if they'll even want to use it so I also got a small easel so they can use it as a decoration if they prefer. I also bought a shadow box to put a hammer in. Now I just have to get a plaque made with their names and wedding date ... and I'm still going to get a hammock it $$ permits.

Grumpy about my discountmugs.com mugs!
foxytv replied to becks's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
This happened to me as well. They did correct the problem, so I have a ga-zillion extra mugs now ... but I will tell you that there was still a problem with the second set that I received (which were done correctly). We didn't know it until we were at our DW ... but they must not have put a sealant on the re-do's b/c all the writing washed right off in the water. No idea if it was the chlorine or what ... but the first set of mugs stayed fine (we ended up using both b/c the first batch had handles and the second batch did not) ... but when we got the mugs redone (at no charge) .. they must have skipped a step b/c everyone's mugs that we re used at the pool bar had all the writing wash right off. All in all, while discountmugs.com prices were great ... I was very UNDER-impressed with the customer service and quality overall. PS -- we used the extras as favors for the AHR but still have 2 boxes leftover. -
Private Receptions
foxytv replied to jassira28's topic in Destination Weddings in Dominican Republic
Make sure you check out the rest of the threads in this section. There are tons of pics and info about different resorts. I think Jellyfish would be the PERFECT option since you have family in the DR who might not be staying at the resort. That would be your most cost-effective option. YOu can get married on the beach by Jellyfish as well. We were married in the gazebo at Paradisus Punta Cana and although some beach-goers did watch our ceremony, we have none in our pictures and the gazebo overlooks the beach but is a bit more private than a true beach wedding. -
oh wow, thank you ladies! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the monogrammed HAMMER idea! I am totally going to do that, like a hammer inside of a shadow box with a small plaque that has their names and wedding date on it. Too cute! And I love some of the other ideas too! I am going to have ssoo much fun with this one!!! :-) Keep the ideas coming!!!

My bouquet is ordered :)
foxytv replied to WifeToBe's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
I love it! Did you order it from the resort? -
They are doing the "give a gift for the home that begins with this letter..." as the theme for a girlfriend's bridal shower. My letter is "H". I'd like to get her one nice gift and several smaller gifts. Their last name will be "Hammer" so obviously I have a lot of options. But, for things other than monogrammed items ... can you ladies help me out with some "H" gifts?

Credit Card Fraud in DR
foxytv replied to LindsayG's topic in Destination Weddings in Dominican Republic
Guess I better monitor my card, although I used debit for the wedding and not from an account that I keep much $$ in. Even so ... We took cash for everything except the wedding ... and I had to pay in installments b/c my bank wouldn't let me use but a certain amount per day, regardless of pre-authorization. -

When I asked Viviana about maybe sectioning off a part of one of the bars for us, she was like, "No problem. $16 per person per hour." I was like, "What" It's an ALL-INCLUSIVE resort! That's insane. So we decided to just let everyone know where to meet, but not to have it formally sectioned off or whatever. The ONLY thing we could think of is maybe they charge b/c your guests may not necessarily be staying there?? It's b/c if you privatize anything they have to have separate staff that service only your group. It's so much easier just to tell everyone which bar to meet up at. We had no issues and none of the bars were ever super crowded (except for the lobby bar at night (like after 9pm) when they had a band and dancing). We have a group of 47 people and the restaurant only holds 50, am i really supposed to pay them $6300 to not seat three people? This fee has NEVER been mentioned before and is no where in the romance calculator...HELP!!! The 26% commission is listed in the Romance Guides and in other places. The beach reception was a better deal for us, personally, with 40 people. You can have her reserve you seats at a restaurant and NOT privatize it, which would be your best bet if it's just for dinner and not dancing, etc. That's what we did for our rehearsal dinner and it didn't cost us anything. Hi ladies ... Sorry for being MIA ... but I broke my foot and have been a little out of commission ... and with no computer at home right now ... this is the first time I've had to get online and post. Please bear with me. I haven't forgotten you ladies and hopefully my new computer will arrive so I can get back online all the time as opposed to just sneaking in a quick second while at work, since I am rarely in the office. If you have sent me PM's ... please bear with me as well ... I can't stay on the forum long right now but will be following up ASAP with everyone. -

My DH makes over 6 figures, which is helpful since I am still digging out of stupid credit card debt that I got myself into in college (well over 10 years ago!!!!). He is very, very good at managing his money ... but also works hard to earn it. He is a SE Regional manager for the company he works for FT. He is an investment partner in a bar/restaurant downtown ... and he is a Major in the Army Reserves. He will have his 20-years in w/ the military in about 3 years ... so then will likely retire from the Army as a Lt. Colonel or Colonel, which will be fabulous as far as retirement pay and benefits.

I work for a national wine distributor and work off a straight commission ... so my salary will vary monthly and annually. I've only been in my position since March so it's hard to tell, but this is the slow season and I am bringing home just over $3000 month. It appears that if that is the low-end .. then during the busy season (Sept-Jan) I will at least double that ... and continuously work to grow my territory sales. The guys who have been in the business for many more years than me, and as such have more experience and wine knowledge, make 6-figures and earn lots of the incentive trips and bonuses ... which I also count as 'salary' since it's part of the perks of the job. I already went to Napa and Sonoma for 'training' and to me, that is all part of the 'benefits' package, you know? I always look at jobs not only in terms of paychecks, but the 'total compensation plan', which includes benefits, perks, bonuses, expenses, etc...
