  1. Absolutely fabulous! You look beautiful and I love seeing that starfish in your bouquet. I think I'm going to have a to get a parasol too ... it looks so great in the pictures! What are those favors on the table, lined up w/ the pink ribbon? Candles? Pretty. You look gorgeous!!!!!
  2. I don't know about prices for Casa de Campo, although I have friends who have been there who say it's beautiul and very affordable. I am getting married at the Paradisus Punta Cana in April 08 and have a lot of price lists from our resort, which is a mid-range resort in PC. If you PM me I can email you some of the price lists, which will give you an idea.
  3. I am getting married at the Paradisus Punta Cana and already have the time/date reserved for April 2008 and more than 40 people have put down deposits. For 3 nights, it's costing $558 per person, plus airfare. There are less and more expensive resorts to choose from, but it is keeping the cost under $1000 per person, and there are some great priced flights from the East Coast (not sure about prices from other areas). I have pictures of the different wedding set-ups, etc if you want to see them.
  4. I would check prices on some of the charter airlines to see who flies from any hub cities. We chose Punta Cana, DR ... and have a lot of people flying from DC and NYC ... which have $99 each way direct flights to Punta Cana on USA3000 and Spirit Air. Other airline rates are decent as well. I would look at flight prices more than anything IMO because you can find a resort that meets your needs regardless of the location. Hope that helps!
  5. We are having our ceremony in a private garden area right off from the lobby bar of our resort, so I expect guests will mingle at the bar until it's time to be seated. Afterwards, it's back to the lobby bar for drinks while we get the pictures finished, and then moving on the the private beach area for the reception.
  6. Oh, that's perfect. Easy to make as well. I love it! Thanks for sharing!
  7. That's a great idea! That's exactly what I want to do as well! Now, to find the perfect shell...

  10. The Paradisus / Sol Melia resorts don't give you plastic wristbands. Theya re actually thin leather bracelet straps with an oval that reads "Paradisus". Pretty nice actually. And you can definitely take them off during the ceremony.

I've been very vocal about letting everyone know that there will be NO hard feelings if they can't come. But I also talk about that on our website. But, we are having 2 AHR's, one where we live and then one where my parents live since much of my extended family is older and won't be able to travel. I would just make sure family and friends know to spread the word that everyone is invited but everyone is not expected to be able to make it and that that's okay...
  12. I designed my STD's on Publisher and sent them as Postcards. 165 of them. The postcard paper and sparkly pens I used to address them cost $45, plus postage. Nothing special, but I wanted to keep the STD's casual and really just direct people to our website. I'm currently working on our invitations and would love some feedback. I stole this basic design from the Destination Romance Collection of Invitations By Dawn ... and have been working on PowerPoint to put in a pic I found and use my own fonts and wording. We are having 2 AHR's, so I'm putting the basic info on the invite and will enclose an information sheet with specifics. Any thoughts on wordng, pics, general design, etc? This is just my first draft that I made up this morning. The fonts don't show up very well, but it's the Copperplate Gothic and Scriptina.
  13. I think it's great! Good colors -- simple and fun but still classy. Will the logo be a small front logo or full back logo?

We chose to do this because we wanted our ceremony to be special in a way that having it done "legally" was not going to allow for us...i.e. it would have to be in spanish, and apparently cannot deviate from their "official" ceremony. I have only told my mom about this...I think I may have told my MOH too. I'm bringing this thread back to life because this is what we will be doing as well (right now only my Mom and MOH know ... but Mom wants to be at the "real" wedding. Well, to us, our ceremony IS the real wedding. The other will just be signing paperwork to us. But, for any of you who have already done the Symbolic Ceremony ... although my wedding is in the DR ... any feedback will be helpful to these questions of exactly what to expect with the Symbolic Ceremony? I'm wondering if it will still appear "real" for all intents and purposes? Is there a standard "vow renewal/symbolic" script or are we expected to take care of that ourselves? Who will preside usually? Our WC or a minister?
  16. I am going to use a white rose bouquet ... just haven't decided which one yet. :-) (Want to help me pick which you like best? My dress is ivory with champagne edging and beading. My BM's will have the colorful bouquet of gerber daisies, roses and tropical flowers. They will all be the "natural touch" silk flowers (the colorful bouquet below IS all silk, but looks REAL to me!). I want to be able to reuse the bouquets (I'm also having centerpieces made) for our AHR's since our BM's will be there, and then they can keep them after that.
  17. If you want to get the "free honeymoon package" at many resorts, you have to show your marriage license. We've decided to get the legalities overwith ahead of time just in case (heaven forbid) anything were to happen while we are gone. I won't change my name until we return, though. We were going to do it all at the resort, but in most cases you only have 30 days to change over to the others health insurance, etc (without having to wait for the next open enrollment) ... and that can't be done w/o a marriage license as proof. So, since the DR can take MONTHS to get your papers back to you, and then we have to translate back from Spanish to English, it just seems easier and smarter for us to do it ahead of time. I was fine doing it after, but Mom had to bring up the "what if something happened to one of you while you are there" factor. Leave it to parents to always be devils advocate, right? :-)
  18. That is very similar! I love it too. I am thinking about buying one of my BM dresses in a champagne color to wear at one of our AHR's.

For those who have done something similar, how did you go about doing this Is it possible to get the free wedding and be able to add on? We have actually decided to do this very thing. We will be getting married through a local minister in a private ceremony before we leave, and doing the symbolic ceremony without anyone knowing it in the Dominican Republic. You should be able to still do a "Renewal of Vows" package with a non-demonimational minister presiding and have it included in whatever package you choose. We are doing everything a la carte, but will still pay to have a minister there so as to not draw suspician to our having already been wed. Our WC at the resort has had no problem with any of our requests so far, and it seems pretty standard these days, especially with the paperwork, and in the DR the price to get legally married just went up, along with the timeframe for getting your legal docs got lots longer.
  20. My FI and I also have been living together for quite a while, but also have lived on our owns for about 15 years each. So, we definitely don't need anything. However, we've already have several people ask us about a registry, so I've registered us at Home Depot (we'll be buying a new house), and for a Honeymoon Registry with our TA, so people can contribute to the honeymoon if they wish. Either way, we prefer no gifts, but know that some people will be giving them regardless, so at least they've got an idea now of what we do/don't need/want.
