But, keep in mind -- you need to buy 10X more than what you think you need. I bought about 7-10 bunches (and they are huge) and it cooked down to a large serving bowl full that would have served 3-4, not the 15 we had at dinner. Luckily, the hostess made collards too. But, I will say I had several people ask for this recipe. Quote: Originally Posted by Hopels I love greens, but never cook them... do they really need all that salt and sugar? Sounds bizarre, but like I said, I never cook them so I don't know what a normal recipe calls for... Paula Deen is rarely wrong though I'm cooking her apple stuffed pork loin right now! I thought the salt and sugar amounts seemed like wwaayy too much. Actually the sugar was right on target, but it was way too salty (perhaps from the ham hocks and from initially salting the water). Next time I will only use half of the salt that's called for. Other than that, I am in love -- and am so glad I added the onions and apple cider vinegar. Another hint to cooking them, if you tear off the leaves and then roll them up after washing them, and cut them up, I find that they cook faster. And they sell collard greens in most grocery stores if not all in that region of Florida. They even sell greens in a can. (I dont like the canned ones though, just my preference) And to spice things up, I love to put hot sauce on them and mix with my rice and a nice slice of corn bread. Yummy. I grew up in DC, but moved to the South 9 years ago -- and only knew kale back in DC. Now, I am in love with collards and its amazing how many different ways there are to make them. I learned also to pull of the stalks. They are too tough unless you do the slow simmer for more than 2 hours. I don't like anything but frsh cooked greens either. I've tried them in a can and frozen. No thanks! PS -- I just had FH bring me back home. I am STUFFED and am ssoo ready for a) bed and to get signed up at the gym tomorrow and start working off all these holiday pounds off before April!!!!

I hadn't seen this site before, but came across it when I was trying to find BM shoes. And the site isn't just shoes! The prices are fabulous and I am really happy with the selection. Women's Shoes, Men's Shoes, Kids' Shoes, Handbags - 6PM.com My sister just ordered these shoes as her BM shoes, so I've sent the others a link to this site and the brand that she ordered (Caparro's) has several other styles in the same color, so they can pick their fave and still have the same colors, which I'm happy about. caparro's even has a thong wedge heel for the BM's who don't want regular heels. Anyway, check out the site.

OMG -- I know a lot of people don't like or don't know about collard greens ... but I am cooking some right now to eat at dinner later and I can hardly stop going back to the pot to sneak a taste. They are ssoo good. I got the recipe from an episode of Paula Dean on FoodTV, and it ROCKS! 3 smoked ham hocks 5 bundles collard greens (I used more) stalks removed & torn in small pieces 1 cup sugar (I know it sounds bad) 1/2 cup salt (that REALLY sounds bad) (I added) 1 chopped onion (I added) 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar Boil LARGE pot of salted water Add ham hocks. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes. Remove hocks and discard. Add remaining ingredients. Cover and simmer for 2 1/2 to 3 hours. OMG, I LOVE them!!!

I have been on their e-mail list for quite some time and this was the very first coupon code I have ever been sent! I hope that I ordered everything correctly and I get my mugs quickly Bummer that I didn't get the coupon code, and ordered before I knew about it. BOO! But, I'm still pleased with the pricing I got, and I got free shipping. I'll let you know as soon as I get the proof. I'm sure they've been busy and hopefully are now taking time to enjoy the holidays! -

Veil Decision -- Down to Two.
foxytv replied to foxytv's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
Okay -- here's what I decided (thanks for all the input!). I like the design of the 2-tier the best, but I really want a 1-tier veil. So, I ordered the 1-tier, but they have an easy return policy -- so I'm going to get it and if it detracts from the dress, I will try the 2-tier ... and if I don't like that -- I'll go with the pricier one that I know looks great w/ the dress. Also, I ordered it in Champagne b/c I want to see what that looks like (from the swatches I have in champagne, I think I might love it -- it won't be too dark) -- but we'll see. Again, based on the return policy, I figure I've got options. :-) Also, I ordered it from discount wedding favors, wedding accessories, personalized favors, communion veils. It's an Ansonia veil -- $280 on the House of Brides website and retails for $420, but it's on sale for $133.99 w/ free shipping. -
should i buy these shoes??
foxytv replied to cessyboston's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
OMG! NO WAY -- not for that price. At least that's not me. I could never justify that -- but your finances could be totally different than mine. That's almost what I paid for my dress! -

What pants??
foxytv replied to LeXiee's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
These are the pants DH and GM are wearing, in khaki ... but you could do the Cloud color, which would be more like an ivory/off-white. Dockers Store Online - Men: Pants: Flat Front: True Chino - Flat Front -
Sarah -- no worries, I just re-watched your slideshow (which is AMAZING every time I see it) and saw the parasols again!
-
Good question! I'm still deciding if I want to use these, but I hadn't thought about sizes! Can you ladies post pics of theones you bought/used (Sarah I know I've seen yours but would be nice to have them all on this thread if possible) :-)
