Congrats and welcome to the forum! I had originally hired DW.com also, but found them so lacking in knowledge or helpfulness that I requested a refund. I hope they are better to you! We got married at Beaches Boscobel (Ocho Rios) and had no complaints. At least none that I can remember almost 4 years later! So I think the Beaches resorts are a great option. If money is an issue, I believe that the Riu resorts are very comparable in what they offer, but are more reasonably priced. At least they were when I got married. Congrats on already choosing the resort! That was the biggest and hardest decision for me, so hopefully it's easy sailing from here on out for you.

Congrats and welcome!

Congrats and welcome! For me, I found that it was more important to me to get married on the beach then to worry about people in the background. But I didn't have any topless or embarrassing nono-guests photo-bombing my pictures. If I had, maybe I'd have felt differently. And for the reception, I def suggest private.

Congrats and welcome!

Congrats and welcome! I would talk to your resort, I know that people do both ways. We got married legally and cermonially (is that a word?) on the beach in Jamaica.

Congrats and welcome! I was going to suggest what JayKay said, searching if your best bet and then posting in threads that seem to talk about the info you are looking for. Newbie threads are generally used just for intros and welcomes, so you might not get much feedback here.

Vancouver Newbie planning for January 2013 in Negril Jamaica
boscobel replied to sunnymylene's topic in Newbies!!
Congrats and welcome! We got married at Beaches Boscobel in Ocho Rios Jamaica b/c of the kid friendliness. -
Congrats and welcome! And don't worry, 8 months is plenty of time! I did a wedding website, but I'm really not sure how much it mattered. The younger guests posted there sometimes or checked there, but I'm not sure it was worth the hassle. I just used one of the free versions.

Hello from Newbie (& slightly panicked) Tampa bride
boscobel replied to fireprincess's topic in Newbies!!
Congrats and welcome! Is our resort on the beach? If so, I wuold talk directly to them. Actually, I would start with them either way, they might be able to point you in the right direction to find someone to help you pull it together. -
Congrats and welcome! I'm so jealous of you girls planning weddings now that have pinterest! Although, that could also be dangerous, I guess...

Congrats and welcome! That stinks that you guys had a less then great weathered trip to Jamaica! Although, you can have crappy weather anywhere. I've only been to Jamaica twice, but both times the weather was gorgeous, May 2008 for our wedding and April 2011 for a vacation.

I kinda felt like that too in the beginning. I swear it gets easier, with each big decision you make, you are left with the littler more fun ones and you gain in confidence. -How did you settle on a location for your wedding? We knew that we wanted a DW so honestly, my biggest thing was price. Flying from our homestate is cheapest to Jamaica, and then we knew we wanted our nieces and nephew involved in the wedding, so we knew we needed a family friendly resort. Then we just picked the one we liked best. -Is it even possible to have a nice wedding for less than 10k? Definitely! I don't remember exactly how much our JA wedding cost but it was well under $10k, maybe as high as $7k? But we paid for my sister and her two kids to travel so that added a big chunk. And I super splurged on my dress. our AHR was a bigger part of the budget since we had over 300 guests, but if we had skipped that, our wedding would've still been just as awesome and we would've save a ton of money! -How did you deal with the stress of people complaining about having to travel? I ignored them right from the beginning. I had the attitude that it was my wedding and you can come or not. I mean, I took into consideration what would be best for my guests, but I did NOT plan around them. No matter what you do, people are going to complain, so just keep you and your fiance happy. -Are there any resorts that really cater to destination weddings? I have been looking at the individual resort websites, and those help, but I guess really what I'm looking for is the resort that includes the most without having to have a minimum number of bookings. Hmmm, I'm confused with this question, b/c when we were looking, every resort offered DW's and I don't recall any requiring a min number of bookings, most had a min number of nights though. Then again, I was planning almost 5 years ago... -What resorts are recommended? We got married at Beaches Boscobel in Jamaica and I can't recall any major complaints. Except the resort photog. If you go there, def bring in an outside one! Unless they've hired a better photog since then....

Well I hope you get that good nights sleep tonight! And don't even worry about how you reacted and if it was hormone related b/c it doesn't really matter, all that matters is that you did react that way. Are you close with SIL? I'm sure she meant no harm by it. Shit, I can't read those scans most of the time either! I would hope that I wouldn't be so careless in my comments, but I honestly can't say for sure that I haven't been. So brush it off (like it seems like you have) and fugeddaboutit.

I obviously love Liam b/c it's my nephew's name, so I think that's a great choice. Another name my sister was seriously considering for him was Declan and I wasn't crazy about it back then, but it's really grown on me and I'd probably say it's my have Irish boy name. And my favorite of all time for girls is Fiona. I don't even care that Shrek made Fiona into an ogres name, I just think it's so pretty. Maybe you guys can compromise and pick a name that is Celtic or Welsh in origin, so slightly different then Irish for you, but still exotic enough for him?? I know my sister wanted Irish names but was having trouble with girls names b/c she wanted to keep the traditional spellings but Americans don't know how to pronounce Gaelic words, so she ended up veering off and picking a Welsh name for her daughter - Bronwen. As for us...we're still kind of in no where land. Since he brought up the whole "let's go traditional" thing a few weeks ago, we hadn't really talked about it. But I asked him if he was naming the baby with no input from anyone else, what would it be and he said with no delay "Dominic". So I told him that should've been his favorite name then, not Marcello!! So I said that if we are going less ethnic, more traditional, my favorite name is Xavier. Ryan will still be the middle name no matter what. And then the other day he texted me and called the baby "Xavier". I wrote back "or Dominic or Mateo, or who knows!" And he texted back that Xavier is really growing on him and he thinks that might be it. So I'm still letting that sit and haven't brought it up since, but we *may* be getting somewhere finally!

How exciting! My fave part is knowing the gender and talking names (until I got pregnant that is!), so I can't wait for you guys to find out! And I totally hear you about the exhaustion. I knew that was a side effect, but man oh man, I had no idea the depth of it. I have permanent circles under my eyes and always feel like I need a nap or a few extra hours sleep. I hope it gets better for you soon!
