  1. Yeah, I don't mind the drunk speeches. I went to a wedding last October where the best man was so drunk that he was swaying and slurring and not making ANY sense. And that's just comical. Not sure how the bride felt about that, but I woulda thought it was funny. I just don't think it's appropriate to talk about exes or divorce. That's ahole material.
  2. We skipped speeches for our wedding, but our best man ended up saying something nice b/c he wanted to. I told my sister that she didn't have to b/c I was her MOH a few years ago and I can NOT talk in front of people, so I didn't want to make her do something that I was unable to do myself. But I was in a wedding this weekend where the best man had a totally inappropriate speech, so if you are afraid of what might come out, skip it! (He talked about the divorce rate, he said "fucking" when talking about the priests homily, he mentioned how he could see down the brides dress while standing, etc. It actually goes on and on how bad it was)
  3. So I just joined WW online yesterday, any helpful hints? It seems there is a wealth of information on the website, but was wondering if those that have used it can offer up any tips.
  4. Love your dress! Was it a Lazaro? Kinda looks like it might be and I am partial to that designer since that is what my wonderful ( ;-D ) dress was!
  5. I caught last nights show cuz we finally have TV again! yay!! Erin, I feel ya on the tears for the same sex couple and the deaf girl. They were really good and I got a mini crush on teh b-boy. Cutie.
  6. I registered with them, but then canceled it when I heard about the problems that others had. Targets merchandise is so fluid anyway, my registry kept becoming out of stock. I would stick with BBB, they have a more stable stock of items and you can return no problem.
  7. Hahahaa, Jac, I met Sebastian and that pic is awesome. I *heart* him.
  8. No way! Pick and choose what you think would make your wedding the best it can be! I didn't do EVERYTHING and certainly changed alot. So do what makes you happy.
  9. I am going to merge this with the other "always sunny thread"...
  10. Congrats, Mo! That's great news! What a wonderful birthday present!
  11. BUMPING for anyone that hasn't seen this yet...
  12. I want to say #1 cuz I think it's prettier, but it might be hard to read. Have you printed test ones? What do you think about the readibility?
  13. I beleive that Ann was referring to attacking the vendor as well as a bride. I think the truth is out there so the members can make their own decisions regarding whether they want to use a vendor. Keeping it just to the facts makes it easier for brides to not get caught up in the drama and make a decision based on the actual experieces rather then feedback. ETA: I also wanted to say that this wasn't directed at you in particular, just in general this thread has turned into attack mode and we'd like to keep it just factual.
  14. Hmmm, I don't know. If it wasn't black, I would say it's more of an issue. But black is the color that SO many women wear to weddings. Usually the parents coordinate to the bridal party, and then it would be more obvious if they were both wearing a teal/purple/fuschia/yellow/whatever color dress. I wouldn't worry about black too much.
  15. Congrats on your new-to-you car! I love getting a new car, it's just so fun.
  16. Hahhaaa, I can see you doing the dance. Wish Joe got that on video! And I agree about the race card. I think he's an ignorant racist a-hole and wish he would go away.
  17. I like Kanye's music and I've always been a fan of Beyonce, but I never liked Kanye personally. Even before he started acting up at awards shows, I just hate the way he looks. Doesn't he look like a cocky asshole? And I read somewhere (have no clue where now!) that he said in an article last year that he was going to storm the stage when someone didn't win cuz they deserved it. So he probably had this all planned out. Just like his disheveled appearance and carrying around the liquor bottle. Total publicity stunt. But I don't beleive in the idea that just being talked about is good enough. He has totally turned me off of him and I am not even a fan of Taylor Swift (not against her, I just don't know her). I like the idea of someone clotheslining his ass.
  18. Ok, so do we have to sign up for this pipl thing to remove our names from the listing? I don't have any under my married name, but there are 6 results under my maiden name that I would like removed. Not cool!
  19. I chose the first pair (blue). The 3rd would be my second choice, but I think they could get caught on the bottom of your dress.
  20. I like Ellen too, so hopefully she's a good addition to the crew!
  21. What the hell? That's another one of those stupid laws that probably make it into books.
  22. Wow, Mo. I knew that TA's didn't make huge money, but honestly I can't beleive that anyone would be a TA for that price now that I see the breakdown! Quote: Originally Posted by TA Maureen Maybe things work differently in Canada, so I can only speak for the 2 agencies I have worked for in the US, one being a huge chain and one being a smaller specialty agency. 1. However, 100% off that either gets applied to the clients' trip or refunded in full after travel. 2. When giving price quotes I have NEVER added additional costs to the trip to make more money. In this day and age with everyone comparing prices online a TA could never get away with it even if some unethical ones in the past did. 3. The average TA in the US makes $30,000.00/year. I don't know what you think a huge cut is but I think it's time I break it down since there is such a huge misconception. The average length of stay for DW guests is 3-5 nights so I will use a 4 night stay in a moderate priced AI resort for this example: 4 nights AI at ROR, transfers, and round trip airfare from PHL for 2 adults. Total cost to the guest: $1050.70 per person/$2101.40 total. Now we have to break it down more because we don't get paid commission on airline tickets, transfers, or taxes. So the total portion of the trip that is commissionable is $1168.00. We make 15% commission from this tour operator (which is one of the highest percentages offered) so that comes to a commission total of $175.20. Now this is before anything is paid out, not what the agent gets to keep. The agent needs to give 30%-40% of the commission to the agency for operating and marketing costs so the total commission amount the agent takes from that 2,000.00 trip is $105.12. Oh did I mention that the international phone calls, faxes, and document shipping that we spend on each booking comes from the agent's portion of the commission Then it gets taxed in a higher tax bracket because it is commission. And that is only if the clients actually travel. If they cancel or decide not to book, we get nothing! So can anyone who thinks of TA's like we are money grubbing salesman that do no work and take huge cuts from people's vacation total please explain to me how they can say that with a straight face now
