So I was wondering if anyone had found a guideline for budgeting a destination wedding. I have some that apply to regular weddings, but was unable to find anything official regarding DW's. My mom keeps asking to see my budget, but I have no idea. We ar having the DW and inviting anyone who wants to come, then we are having a reception when we return for the full list of invites. I've never planned a wedding before, so I have no idea what to expect to spend on every little piece. Any suggestion?

Alissa - LOVE that dress, I am going to check it our in person cuz I think I want my bridemaids to wear it. My colors are orange, fuschia and turqouise, so it fits right in.

Heidi, I am reading this a little late - still rummaging around in all the different threads. I am so sorry for what you had to go thru, I was practically crying while I was reading your story. I am glad that you have such a supportive person in your life to help you to deal with such a tragic situation. I must say though, that I think this board is full of the most caring and compassionate group of people that I have ever come across within one group. I don't have much time to spend on here, but each time, it is a joy to see how much everyone enjoys the happiness of others on here. The support given to, basically strangers, is just incredible. Heidi, I can't say anything else, other then, I am really sorry that you (and everyone else that posted similar circumstances) had to go thru that at all.

beach ready shoes...
boscobel replied to boscobel's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
In-ter-esting. Thanks. I wouldn't have thought to even check in the bridal salons. Guess I will have to open my eyes! -
Hello everyone, So I just realized - I am planning on getting married in Jamaica next February, so I will need to buy my wedding shoes now, while they are out! I did a quick search online, but haven't come across anything that i like. I remember someone posted a pic of there sandals the other day, but I don't remember who. Any suggestions? I would like a flat or very close to flat sandal with some sort of jewels. Thanks, Carly

I saw this dress when shopping with my sister a few weeks ago, but couldn't find it online anywhere. Is it Adrianna Papell? I LOVE IT! I think I am going to send it around to my BM's to see if they agree. Thanks! -

Who makes this dress?
boscobel replied to KellyandMatt08's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
Glad you found the designer is Jim Hjelm. I have looked all over in the PA area for this dress and was unable to find one in a store. It was my original #1, but since I can't find it anywhere, I've moved on [sigh]. Good luck! -
Spreadsheet is no longer available from 2007 thread

I would also love a copy of the spreadsheet you are talking about, sounds like a great tool! -
Seamstress in PA area?
boscobel replied to boscobel's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
Definitely not too little too late! Thanks, I am bookmarking that thread, so I can research later. I just got a new job, so I don't have the time I would like to peruse this site yet... -
Heidi - Figured I would let you know that I went to Harleysville Bridal on Friday (I took off cuz I just couldn't wait another day!), and I didn't get a chance to try anything on, not enough time. But there were at least 6 when I looked thru real quick, that I am going to try on. One I am very excited about! So thanks for suggesting that place, I probably would never have gone there. It was the first place I had seen that wasn't full of big fluffy dresses. But back to what this thread is about... I sent an email to my travel agent today and I told her that a destination wedding is absolutely what I want to do. So I have her checking into different dates for the 2 resorts we had decided on previously. I really, really want Sunset at the Palms, so I am having her check if we choose a different date, do they have the same restrictions (7 night min stay for guests, and they wouldn't allow all of my guests rooms). And if not SATP, she is checking into Beaches Boscobel for various different dates in February, April and May. Thank you all for your responses, makes me feel less crazy knowing others are doing the same thing. ajncooter - my mom has 3 boston terriers and my sister has 1, love those dogs!

That's awesome, congratulations! And thanks for all your information yesterday on my long vent of a post. I will have to consider all of the options that you suggested. I am so happy for you that the plan is made, that's the biggest step!

Hello everyone, I have been encountering problems with everything I am dealing with, so I figured I would put it out here and maybe you guys can help me out. My fiance and I want to get married in Jamaica next February. We want to send an open invite to all of our guests that we will have at the reception back home after, but we don't expect anywhere near that many to show up. I think we'll have between 50-60 and my fiance thinks 80. We are having trouble finding a resort that will book us. I feel like having this destination wedding has been nothing but a headache from the start, but I am so not ready to have the traditional wedding (not at all what i want!). Can any of you offer suggestions? We wanted all-inclusive, and children friendly. Also a tropical looking place, not a condo/apt building look. And obviously we wanted something affordable for our guests, @1,000/pp. Here are the problems I am encountering: 1. I am already on my 3rd travel agent (the 1st was with destinationweddings.com, and she just wasn't helpful at all, the 2nd was a mall travel agent, who kept telling us that we should get rid of the kids (we have 4 kids in our immediate family and in the wedding) b/c if we got rid of the kids it would open up our options and she wouldn't tell us any other options then Jamaica, now the 3rd seems great and all, but we keep submitting our information to resorts and then she comes back with problems, so i don't know if she is just not very good, or if the problems are valid!). 2. We have already changed our date once (we originally wanted Feb 17th, but since that was Valentine's day weekend, we moved it back to avoid the increase in price). 3. And we are on our 3rd resort! I am almost to the point where I am done with it all, but that is just not realistic. (Originally we were goin to book Sunset Beach Resort, but found pics and weren't crazy about the look of the resort. Then we tried to book Sunset at the Palms, but they couldn't accommodate all of our guests. Now, we tried Beaches Boscobel, but they won't give us a block of space since the weekend we want to get married is the weekend after Presidents day!) 4. I got the latest bit of bad news yesterday morning, so while I am complaining to my mom about why is this so damn hard, she springs on me that her and my dad might not be able to go anyway. She proceeded to give some bs excuses, but who needs to hear that on top of all the other issues! Going crazy, any suggestions? Carly

Seamstress in PA area?
boscobel replied to boscobel's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
Do you know of any "once wed" sites? Cuz I totally don't mind buying it worn already. I am about to say, screw it and get it and sell it as soon as the wedding is over. My wedding is supposed to be in Feb08 in Jamaica, but encountering some issues. I am going to post in the Jamaica section in a few... -

Bridal Consignment in PA area
boscobel replied to boscobel's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
Hmmm, I haven't heard of Harleysville Bridal, but I can def check that one out. Ann Bailey's is actually where I found my dream dress. Lazaro - Bridal Gown - 3664 but i can't afford it. I haven't been to Bridal Town yet, but that is where my sister bought her dress a few years ago. And I did already check out the David's in Con, but I want a very slim fit dress since my fiance and I are both pretty short, I don't want anything too big. And I have only found about 3 in all the places that I have been. -
Does anyone know of any Bridal Consignment shops in the PA area? I've already been to Sabrina Ann in Ardmore, PA Consignment bridal shop, wedding gowns. Ardmore, PA. (if anyone in the area hasn't been there, I would suggest to go, she has great dresses! Just nothing fitted and slinky, like I want.) I fell in love with a too expensive dress (haven't we all?), and wouldn't mind buying one from consignment, but Sabrina Ann is the only one I could find... Thanks! Carly

Seamstress in PA area?
boscobel replied to boscobel's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I forgot, I meant to post a link to the pic... Lazaro - Bridal Gown - 3664 -
Hello all, I totally fell in love with a Lazaro dress but it is $3,500. That just does not git in my budget, no matter what I do! Anyway, I was thinking that I could probably get it made for much less, but I only found 2 seamstresses in my area. I have been in contact with both of them, but haven't met them yet to view their work. Does anyone know of any dressmakers in the Philadelphia or Allentown, PA area? Thanks! Carly

Well as the story goes... Matt and I met on a blind date set up by a lifelong friends mom. I grew up in Philadelphia and my parents moved to the suburbs when I was in my early 20's. Shortly after, my friends mom moved to the same town, and my girlfriend and I moved back to Philly. A few years ago, I came out of an uneventful relationship and was kind of lonely being back in the suburbs with my parents and not knowing anyone. So my friends mom, who had begun going to a family owned salon in the area, kept telling me that her hairdresser was the cutest, nicest guy ever. I told her, no thank you, for months and months. I am not very good at meeting new people and was totally not intersted in a blind date. She is pretty relentless though (thankfully), and after like 6 months or so, I finally agreed and we met and had instant chemsitry. Where I am weak, he is strong and vice versa. He loves talking, I would prefer to observe, etc. So we worked well together from the beginning. We knew after about 5 months of dating that this was it. There are so many weird parts to our story, of how our lives overlapped, but we never knew before. It just reinforces that we were meant to be together. My parents moved in about 7 years ago, less then one mile away from where his parents have lived for 30 years! On our engagement... September is when we started ring shopping and I knew that I wanted a yellow diamond. It didn't take me long to find "the one", but it took verrrry long for the ring to be right. The ring that I wear now is the 3rd one that the jeweler gave to my fiance. He had to keep giving it back to him and I had no idea he was having so much trouble. I thought maybe he was just scared or holding off, cold feet. So finally, on December 20th, after almost 3 months of waiting for the ring, he came home from work and couldn't wait another second. He gave it to me in a chocolate box amongst a bunch of dark chocolate hersey kisses. I couldn't have been happier! Sorry to be so lengthy, but this board seems to like it! I posted another set of pics of my ring below, b/c I seemed to have messed something up when I posted the previous ones and they came thru as links instead of pics. ~ Carly

Well Tony D is my father-in-law to be! I am marrying his son, Matt, who currently also works in the salon. that is too funny. Small world. I will have to ask Matt.
-
Chalfont - no way! My parents live there, I lived there for about 4 years. My fiance grew up there as well. Are you familiar with Tony D's the hair salon on 202?
-
Which resort in Ocho Rios did you choose?? Here is a pic of my ring - it is hard for me to choose the best pic because of course none of them do it justice! It is a yellow diamond and I love it to pieces!

That's funny, I put Philadelphia, because I grew up there and that is how I still think of myself, but I currently live with my fiance in Telford (near Quakertown), so I am probably close to you in Montgomery as well! Montgomeryville Mall used to be my home away from home, before I started to save for the wedding...
