Anyone do AHR at a private home?
boscobel replied to boscobel's topic in General Wedding Planning Information
I know right, who knew there was such a thing? I found out what they are called - Restroom trailers. I haven't been able to find pricing yet, but I think this is DEF the way to go. -

Awesome, I didn't know they made them!!! Do you know what they are called? I would love to look into that, cuz port-a-potties that I picture are all gross. Now, usually when I have used them, it is a major drink fest, but I think that is what my party will be like anyway! And I am NOT telling them it is for a wedding, cuz I know the prices raise dramatically then. I am saying it's a family reunion. One that I will be wearing my wedding dress for a portion of! Hahhahaaa -

Heidi, that is funny, I just found that place. My parents live like 1 mile away from there, but I never knew it existed. I am pricing things out on their website right now and going to go in after work tonight. I had contacted GTR (Good Times Rental) previously and I didn't liek the customer service. I told them what items I wanted to rent and the amount of people and they told me I had to tell them waht size tent I need. I was like, I thought you could help me there? I have never done this before. And they wouldn't advise me, so screw them. But this place looks pretty great. I am excited to go talk to them tonight... -

Yeah, I was hoping we would probably rent port-a-potties or something, cuz the bathroom would be ridic. People would be sneaking off to do their business in the woods! I can't beleive they got a tent for under $500! I am researching it now and to rent one for the amount of people that we need is WAY more then that! Oh well. I guess I will jsut price it all out and then decide what we will do. -

I like all of the options available and particularly chose it cuz it would allow me to link to Paypal so my guests can make payments on the site. (I'm still working out all the kinks with that part of it...) My site is a work in progress! The link didn't work - has an extra http://. The right one is Wedding Websites - Gionne & Michael Looks nice though!!

I know my grandma won't, but I wonder if my friends would. It would be so much easier just to go online & order the gift. I do most of my shopping online. If I do the online registry, I'll still have in store registries. I guess the trick is to not overlap stuff & the know how much to put in each one. I have found our dishes (fiestaware) much cheaper online, but I thought it would be too hard to register with some little online store. This might be the solution. Honestly, I didn't look into it, but I have turned the page on all the magazines were I find it, jsut never followed it up for research.

I plan on helping out with stuff like buying a keg of corona, making salsa, etc. It's a mexican themed party. We are even getting a pinata. I'm really excited about it, because it will be really casual. I'm worried about the texas reception. I don't want to have to plan a traditional reception. I'm trying to avoid that stuff with a DW. I want something casual & a house party would be great, but I'd need someone to volunteer their house. We may have too many people coming to the texas party for anyone to host. We'll probably rent out a place, but I'm just really hoping it doesnt turn into a full blown reception. We've also talked about a BBQ in the park. I'd rather do something like that. But, I really want to show the video. So, I don't know what to do. For some reason the thought of a big formal reception with 200 people make's me feel sick. If I could have it at a family members house who had a lot of land, I'd be thrilled. I agree, I am NOT a fan of the formal receptions. I think having a BBQ sounds great and I am sure you could rent equipment to show your video. Or even maybe burn it onto CD's as a favor? I want my party to be like a nicer picnic. Ya know, sundresses for the girls and whatever for the guys. I am just worried about pricing and have been having trouble getting info on that, but i just found a great local place that provides prices online, so I am in the process of doing that now... Forgot - my FMIL is the one who made the suggestion to have it at her house, so we've spoken about it numerous times and she seems cool with it. -
My fiance and I are looking into having our AHR at his parents house, cuz they have alot of property. Our families are huge and we have 267 MUST have people on our list. This doesn't include the friends that I cut but really didn't want to. Ya know, the friends that you go down the shore with in the summer, but don't hear from all winter. They are still my friends, but we don't see each other all the time. Anyway, we decided to have it at Matt's parents house cuz we could possibly add back people that we cut. I was wondering if anyone has done this type of party and what the cost was. We want it to be nice, but not formal. Matt is supposed to be finding this info out, which is why I don't know, and I am trying not to step on his toes and let him do it, but it's driving me crazy. Sorry, this post is kinda all over the place.

That is almost exactly what I am going to do! I am not good at journaling in the scrapbooks though, so I will do one page for each guest or couple, with a comment from me or Matt and a space for them to write something. And an empty space for a pic. I was thinking of putting someone(s) in charge of it and buying a polariod camera or something to make it immediate. You did an AWESOME job! I am such a fan of the homemade stuff..

Damn - sorry I obviously didn't read your whole response!

Mine is based on the zip, but they are being very accommodating and researching other options (they say, anyway!) So I don't know what the trigger is on the website you use, but it may work... Thanks for the compliments. I wasn't crazy about the background, I wanted something with our colors, but I created like 4 dummy sites to see what I liked best and this one won, so there it is!

Shelley, yours is the only one from that site that I ever saw, but it looks great. My website is OurWeddingDay.Com and i think it works pretty well. They have a chat now option and i have used it a few times. the weather thing is based on zip codes and Jamaica doesn't use zip codes, so they are looking into fixing it for me. Their templates aren't that great, i think there ws like 4 choices, but over all, i think it is good.

Oh thank goodness. So I am not crazy to think that someone else can do it for me. Matt is flipping about $ right now, so I don't want to add another thing.

How do you pick a backup WC? Is it just someone you know, or did you actually hire someone? I don't think my budget would allow us to hire a separate one, so I was hoping to rope one of my family members in....
