  1. Trish - I read thru your whole wonderful review (so glad it all went well), but feel cheated there are no pics! Help us out here, you know we have no patience for posts with no pictures!
  2. Ok, I created a new thread for Christina and anyone else interested in the soap recipe. http://bestdestinationwedding.com/fo...454#post346326
  3. My sister Jill and my BM Jacqueline and myself made soap for the favors for my bridal shower. Jill and I had made soap previously to do some test runs for this and it was a pretty easy project. I think the hardest part was to stay calm. I am a nervous person, so was always scared something was going to go wrong. But we made it each time (at least 5 batches) with no issues. I have had a few inquiries on here as to what recipes we used, I am pretty sure that I posted it within a thread before, but figured it's worthy of it own thread. Feel free to post your recipes of you have made soap. The website that we use the most for advice and recipes is Miller's Homemade Soap Page. The recipe that we have used each time is as follows: This is pasted from All Vegetable Soaps and Recipes towards the bottom. ______________________________________________ Soap Classic (Kathy Miller) This is my current favorite! 39 oz. olive oil (For harder soap substitute 2 oz. of cocoa butter for 2 oz. of the olive) 24 oz. coconut oil 18 oz. palm oil 26-30 oz. cold water (lower for essential oils, higher for troublesome fragrance oils) 12 oz. lye crystals Temperature around 100 to110 degrees. This is the latest recipe I've been making. Some people think canola can be problematic for weeping in storage, so I'm using this classic combination of olive, coconut and palm. I've tweaked this from the original and cut back a little on the olive oil... I think it stores better. ______________________________________________ We substituted soybean oil for the olive oil b/c we got a humongous jug of soybean from Costco. There are MANY recipes on this website though, so feel free to test'em out and post what you liked or didn't like! We played around with additives as well. Our first batch was "mint/euclyptus" and it had a reddish swirl thru it. Jamy (starchild) received some of this from Christmas, and she said she liked it! Our second batch was "lavendar scented" and it also had lavendar buds in it. We had mixed reviews on the buds. Some people thought it was too rough, some people liked the exfoliating factor. Personally, I liked the roughness of it! For my shower, we made additional lavendar bars, but we left out the buds. I will take some pictures and post when I get home later tonight. Here are a few additional sites that I have bookmarked: Beauty Recipes at MakeYourCosmetics.com (recipes and supplies, I think) Natural Homemade Beauty Recipes (recipes and supplies, I think) Latherings :: Index (forum with some great information) Soapmaking (recipes and supplies, I think) Soapmaking Supplies | Soapmaking Recipes | Soap making Supply | Snowdrift Farm | Essential Oils for Soapmaking (recipes and supplies, I think) MMS - Home (recipes and supplies, I think) Candles, Holders for Candles, Candle Making Supplies at Discount Candle Shop (just supplies, I think) Save on Crafts, Wedding Supplies, Silk Flowers, Tulle, Scrapbooking & Discount Craft Supplies Save-on-crafts (just supplies, I think)
  4. Christina - sorry I missed responding to this first time around... I will gather the info and make a new thread about it in a little bit, cuz it really is a fun and easy project. 5. I can't wait to see what you've gathered on Beaches Boscobel! I am glad that you had such a wonderful trip and that's great that you are one of only a few TA's to complete the training! That's gotta be great for your resume!
  6. Yeah, I've heard that we will be too tired for sex. But I would still like to have something, ya know, jic. So I will keep shopping around for the perfect thing. Something will come up! Oh and I did buy a iron-on transfer with my new name! Hahahahaa, I guess I am cheesy! But yeah, I think Matt will think it's cool. I am like Mrs. Dxxxx? That is Matt's mom, not me! Weird, isn't it?
  7. Oh thanks, found that at Macy's on sale like a week or two ago. Can't remember the name brand, but here were lots similar to it.
  8. This might seem like a stupid thing to stress about, but I am going crazy trying to find the perfect thing to wear for our first night as husband and wife. What did/will you all wear? I want to keep it simple but sexy and special still. Like no garters with thigh highs or anything, cuz that is nothing that I would ever wear, but I want something that is similar but nicer then what I would usually wear. I am at a loss. I shop and shop all over and I find all kinds of things that I like, but nothing that I NEED to have. Any ideas?
  9. Oh my, that is so weird. I hadn't noticed but looking back, everyone was wearing: black, white, gray, silver or blue! That totally wasn't planned and I actually only own like maybe 4 pieces of black cothing, cuz I wear brown colors as my blacks. I am not a fan of black, just doesn't usually look good on my pale ass skin with blonde hair. But funny, cuz it does look like we had a theme! 10. Rach - that just turned into my what makes me happy today. I been too busy to have my own thing and that was jsut too sweet. And btw, did I miss this posting of a wedding slideshow I need to see it! Gotta leave work now, but I will be hunting for it tonight or tomorrow!
  11. Try inserting the code into your signature, instead of uploading the picture. I think the upload part of the forum isn't working.
  12. Sharon - can you tell me where you got the flip flops? They look perfect for Matt! Quote: Originally Posted by Sharonie Groom's shoes

  14. Oh my. He does look like a fuzzy duck. Or a cabbage patch kid.
  15. Congrats! I loved your hairstyle, so simple and pretty. Reminds me of a princess.
  16. I did a lb of each color (4 colors). It actually didn't seem like much. I am worried about how much it will fill the container I have, but not sure how to test it. I didn't inquire about the possibility of ordering less, but it wouldn't hurt to ask!
  17. I know, I just love the one of us kissing. It shows off the work my friend Kelli did on the hat and we are getting married, so I thought the kissing one would be best. But I alos like the smiles. Anyway, Maura is nice enough to try to do what Jac suggseted for me, YAY!
  18. Really, Maura? that would be great!! Then I would just need to upload it into VP and it would be all the right dimensions? You are AWESOME!
  19. Ummm, I am not that creative and don't have photo-editing software, so I wouldn't even know where to start with that one, Quel! As they are, when I upload them to VP, they are the right dimensions and stuff, but if I take them to a program, I would need to make all these changes that I just don't know how to do! My dad can, but he is so hard to get to do the right thing.
  20. So I need to pick a thank you card for my shower and I wanted to do the postcards from Vistaprint and use a photo from my shower. These are the two that I narrowed it down to. I like the kissing one better, but my mom says that guests want to see our faces. So what do you think? UPDATE: Maura created a collage for me, see siggy, YAY!!! Big smiles? Or...Kissing?
  21. Yeah, we made out pretty good! There are only a few things that we didnt' get that we need, so it was nice. We had about 70 guests. I think there was 65 that were supposed to be there, and then a few people didn't show, but then I think that quite a few people DID show up that hadn't rsvp'd. 22. Yeah, Jackee and me aren't sisters, but both our sis's were there! Mine is the one in the middle holding my niece Bronwen, her name is Jill. (That was the bridal party, btw) And Jackee's sister Melissa is below. She's even shorted then me (I think), so her and Jackee next to each other is funny, cuz they look alot like, but like a huge height difference!
  23. Thanks for the nice comments girls! And ummm, Jackee is tall and I am short, so a little of both. I am like 5'2, but I was wearing 4" sandals that day. Jackee is like 5'7 (I am guessing) but she always wears high shoes too. So a combo of tallness and shortness there!
  24. These are my favorite threads. Everything looks great, Tam! Good luck with the rest of what you need to do and I can't wait to hear what a wonderful time you had!
