I used Deena as well and remember that she can have email problems. I would just try to call if you can get in touch with her...it's worth the effort because her cakes are fabulous!

Addison, let me put your mind at ease for a second. I used Tara/FLC for our wedding and honestly, without her company, there is no way my wedding would have happened. My event coordinator in Fort Worth was having a very difficult time getting in touch with vendors in Los Cabos. It seems as though vendors really prefer working with a local planner and they really make it difficult if you don't have someone local. Case in point, we were going to use Elena Damy for our flowers, we had a site visit, met with her husband, did the initial interview/questionnaire thing, and left. They never followed up, we tried for a month to get into contact regarding the quote we were waiting on via phone and email, and never got a response. And yes, they're still in business at the same location, etc. My point is, we weren't using someone local, and it wasn't worth their time. When I first spoke with Tara, I knew everything was going to be fabulous. She is a firecracker. And I have heard wonderful things about Amy as well. Here's the deal about FLC, they know what you want, Tara is used to Houston weddings and I'm sure very over-the-top events (she did just coordinate the wedding where Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen were BMs!) so if you ask her for something crazy, she can make it happen. But the best part of using FLC was even though we didn't want an over-the-top wedding and had a budget like most people, the time and thought that went into our wedding was as though we were spending a lot of $$. Tara was wonderful, and she & Amy are partners, so I wouldn't be worried about the handoff. I would actually rather Tara be honest and say she's overbooked and than to feel like you're not getting the treatment you deserve. But also, go with your gut. If you feel like you're getting passed over, find someone else. Maye has gotten wonderful reviews and I know so many brides have been happy with her services. But I was very happy with Tara. If you have any more questions, feel free to PM me.

Ladies, I took pictures of the warehouse when we were going our site visit, so I'll post all of the pictures I have as well. I also found a modified pricing list I received with our quote, so I need to reformat it and I'll post it in a while. Please remember that we had 85 guests, so we need more furniture, linens, etc! Give me a bit and I'll post the pictures!

Just an update. Erica found the rental company we used for the wedding (since I could not for the life of me remember their name!) So all rentals came through Tara Null with Fiestas Los Cabos, and she used Del Cabo Event Design. Check it out! I'll see if I can find the initial quote for the rentals as well. Thank you, Erica! Erica, thank you! That is the rental company we used for our wedding and I couldn't for the life of me find their brochure that I picked up there. They have some fabulous stuff... I'll try to find the pricing list I was given for our initial quote and that should help get an idea as well!

Angela, another great way to add some drama is to light up the vases from the bottom. Especially if you want callas, the vases might be taller, put one of those tap-lights (I'll see if I can find an example), put some ribbon around the base of whatever holds the light in the middle (like small pvc pipe cut or something sturdy), and it lights up the arrangement. You can throw colored glass in there as well and crystals and it looks beautiful. My SIL also used those little battery lights and dropped them into the vases, and that worked as well.

day of the dead cake toppers

Oh, I love those! So fun, very authentic and unique! -
Where are you registered?
jak27 replied to michelle08's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
We registered at REI, Williams-Sonoma, Neiman's, Dillard's (for one thing) & a local store Dishes From the Past (that has a great website, too!) REI & WS both have 10% discounts on completion of the registry, just FYI and I was less than impressed w/ Dillards' registry. The website is confusing, we ended up receiving a lot of spoons b/c our guests thought that was all that was left! But I highly recommend the others. -

Saving Your Wedding Cake?
jak27 replied to twinkletoes's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
We brought a lot of our cake home...the top tier plus other tiers as well. I wrapped pieces enough for 2 in Press & Seal and then put them all in Zip Locs based on the flavor. That way we can have some cake whenever we want it and re-live it! But we'll definitely be tasting our top tier for our anniversary, but it gives us a better excuse to go back to Cabo and have Deena make us another one! -
Michelle, I agree with Jay Reilly completely, just go with your gut. We looked at some photog's websites, and when I found Ginger's we both knew immediately that she would be our photog no matter where we got married. Of course, being a member of this forum made me second and third and fourth guess that decision a bit after seeing such amazing pictures on this site, but I knew that we would be thrilled with our decision. Look at as many pics as you can and trust your instincts. You'll have great pictures, no matter what!

Wow Jen, I cannot believe it's been 3 months. I remember when you first made that commitment to stop, that seems like it was just around the corner! Congratulations for sticking with it and doing something great for yourself!

It's mostly stuff they have in the store all the time, but I didn't want to sit and count out 65 of each thing, so it saved some time! I think the mini margs were $1.00USD and the mini tequila was $2.50USD or so each (they have about 20 mini tequilas so we went with the cheap ones...) I'll try to see if I can find the pricing list, otherwise you can get it from Alma I'm sure. I'll post if I have it!

Jen, I totally understand how you feel. I didn't want a shower at all, and down in Texas I've known brides to have 6! It's a nightmare. Total nightmare. I told my mom that we wanted an engagement party, which was perfect, it was more of a "couples shower" just our close friends but it was great. They brought gifts, but we didn't open them and no one cared! Then I did end up having a girlie shower and had to open presents in front of people, and I was really uncomfortable. But the thought was nice and they did everything they could to make it enjoyable. The gift part only lasted like 20 minutes, and we didn't play any games! So I would definitely suggest an engagement/couples party sans gifts. If all you want is for your close friends & family around, then that's what it should be. There is absolutely no reason you should have to be uncomfortable so someone can see you open a dinner plate and see how you react. Oh, and when I did have to open presents, I had to pretend that I didn't know what it was going to be. I used my online registries to track thank-you cards, so I could see what people had bought me before I got the gift since I was checking other purchases. So that sort of ruined the mood too. Be firm with your mother, let her know that you appreciate the thought, but that there must be a compromise you all can reach. And stress how important it is to you to have Brendan included, since it is about the two of you. Let us know how it goes!

Oh that's so much fun! Write down all of your questions, that really helped me, take as much information with you or at least home with you, and have a blast!

Return the China or Buy More?
jak27 replied to starchild's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
First, to answer the question: KEEP IT and ADD MORE! I registered for china b/c I've always wanted that sexy, grown up, sophisticated choice for dinner parties, etc. I didn't think we would get any at all. On the contrary, I received more china than I did any other gifts. 16 dinner plates and 8 full piece place settings! And I LOVE it! It's so fun! And you don't have to wait until a special occasion to use it at all! We use ours when we have take-out...it makes the meal taste so much better! And it's fun to dress up the table with nice china and our crystal wine glasses, have some Target wine and eat pizza! So, that's my opinion...plus, it's fun for my mom to see our china, get out hers, add pieces to hers now, mix & match, etc. I really think in the long run you'll want a great mix of it all. -
Are you referring to the Obagi peel? If so, I have used Obagi products for years and love them! They do wonders for my hyperpigmentation problems I have and my skin got so smooth and clear when I was using it regularly that I didn't even have to wear foundation. Love Obagi products. Just wish they were free!
