How to keep from burning on your wedding day??
dragonfly replied to geology_rocks's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
I have very white irish skin, and I was diligent about applying and reapplying my sunscreen. I also wore strappless things my entire vacation til the wedding was over. But I think you are actually talking about the wedding day and how to keep from burning without becoming a greaasy sunscreened mess. I applied my sunscreen an hour before I put on my dress, and stay away from perfumed body lotions that have oils in them, most usually do. I also made sure my moisturizer and my makeup and lip gloss had suncreen in it. I got married later in the day so I was out of the dangerous 12-2 pm sunlight. There are so many non-greasy sunscreens, it should say so on the bottle, so look for one of those. Another trick, bring a parasol, for in betweeen pictures and any waiting time you may have, I'm sure that would help alot. -
I am so sorry, I can only imagine how hertbroken you must be feeling. I am hopeful you will find it at work, let us know when you find it.

Stuffing: I like to sautee garlic, onion, celery, and red bell pepper for color in extra virgin olive oil until soft. Let it cool and add some breadcrumbs, freshly grated pecorino-romano or parmesan cheese or both, and fresh lump crab meat. Make sure to use good olive oil and really fresh crab. You can really add or take away any of the ingredients you like. Stuff middle and between rows of leaves with mixture and drizzle tops with evoo. Bake in dish with a little water and cover with foil. If you like you can add lemon wedges to the water prior to baking. It takes about an hour or so. WOW, that was off the top of your head, Jamy I am impressed, mmmm it sounds yummy:)

The resort took all of the outside furniture and moved it in or tied it down, the beach market which was next to out resort had packed the whole thing up the day before, and what couldn't be packed up they weighed down with sand bags. We got up and moved all of our children into our room (my teens had their own room) then we stalked up on water and we got together food from the buffets in case we were unable to leave our rooms. We got extra blankets, and sheets and then we waited. The storm was actually pretty cool, I have never seen anything like it. It was the worst storm I have been in but luckily it didn't hit us head on, in Puerto Plata it was really bad. We waited it out and then 4 hours later it was hot and so still it was earie, not a breeze to be felt. It made leaving difficult, all the flights had been grounded so when we got to the airport it was chaos. We were also on the plane to Toronto that had all that cocaine that was found in a bag, it was a crazy way to end our 2 week vacation:) Up til Dean, our weather was perfect, we had one really bad storm one evening, thunder/lightening, which was beautiful, but scared Liam, we could feel the thunder on the ground. I will be travelling again in August (actually this year to Jamaica), so far it was one of my favourite times of year to go away in, even with Dean hitting us:)

My neighbour is doing a dw next Christmas, this was her original choice for a resort, after informing her of their vendor policies she has changed her mind and is now researching other resorts. If you Tammy hadn't created this thread, I would not have been aware of the policy and therefore been unable to inform my neighbour. I believe she will find another beautiful resort which has more respect for their customer, and the customers choices in regards to their wedding's. It is unfortunate since it looks like it is a beautiful resort.

He was wearing big white wings and he gave her pink ones and he taught her how to fly. She said they had so much fun. When she gets older, I will have to thank her for being my little miracle. She's got me through so much (depression). Aww Amy children don't know what a gift they are. I hear you on little ones getting you through the tough times. When Everton's sister died, Liam is what got Everton through the trauma of that. When Nicole got sick, I had to still learn to be okay outside of Sick kids, which was hard since I had tunnel vision, Liam would come every day to the hospital and force us to smile and laugh. Nicole was in so much pain and depression that the only person she made the effort for was Liam. I use to say that Liam was given to us for a reason, he is our hope. Children also are usually the only ones comfortable talking about our loved ones who are in heaven. Everyone walks around not talking about what we are all thinking, but kids they just blurt out everything thats in their heart, and like you and your niece, it is usually what is in your heart also. Amy I am glad you have her and that she can bring you joy, after the tragedy that you and your family were forced to endure, maybe she's your miracle

The workshop is pretty intense I got to sit in on one, some of the answers were so sad because they were so basic. The kids asked for things that should never be a miracle like, food for breakfast, my parents to stop fighting, to feel like someone likes me, to look forward to getting out of bed, to have one friend, to have mom not have to work all the time, for dad to stop yelling at me and telling me I'm a loser, pretty sad stuff considering it is all stuff that should be a given in life. My childrens answers were all so different, Nicole's was to be able to feel her leg, and live a normal life without so much pain. Kenda's miracle was to wake up and have her sister back the way it was, she didn't even care if that meant a wheelchair or not she just wants her sister to want to hang out again. Timothy would wake up bigger (he hates how skinny he is), Bria's would be to head to the olympics (she is 3rd in her provincial age division in gymnastics for all of Canada), Liam was to live where he could catch gekko's, hehe, oh to be 5:)

Welcome to another fellow Canadian, what area in Ontario are you from? You will find plenty of help and ideas here, the members are great. Happy planning. Kelly~

I can't imagine you would be allowed to bring it back, now having said that my sil managed to bring back my bouquet (she caught it), how I am not sure

My sister runs a bullying workshop to grade 7 and 8 kids, the final task in the workshop, after a very emotional day, is to ask the question,"if a miracle were to occur overnight, what would your miracle look like when you awake in the morning?" So I put forth this question to all of you, what answer will you give to this? Mine of course is, I would awake and go down into my kitchen to see my oldest daughter, out of bed, bickering with her sister, making her lunch rushing to not be late for school. Of course she would be wheelchair free, pain free, and HAPPY~

Did any JA Brides do a BD / TTD Shoot?
dragonfly replied to PrecisePlans's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
Jamica is one of the most beautiful places I have been to, so I imagine it will be easy to figure out locations, I personally would love to see a BD shoot in a natural setting, that would be so cool. -
How do I include SIL's?
dragonfly replied to Celina's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
Since our children were our wedding party and we still wanted to include our 3 siblings we had them stand up at the beginning of the ceremony and they each read a passage of an irish blessing. Here are a couple to give you an idea An Old Irish Blessing May love and laughter light your days, and warm your heart and home. May good and faithful friends be yours, wherever you may roam. May peace and plenty bless your world with joy that long endures. May all life's passing seasons bring the best to you and yours! May the blessing of the rain be on you— the soft sweet rain. May it fall upon your spirit so that all the little flowers may spring up, and shed their sweetness on the air. May the blessing of the great rains be on you, may they beat upon your spirit and wash it fair and clean, and leave there many a shining pool where the blue of heaven shines, and sometimes a star. -
My Ebay Dress Came Today - Pic Heavy
dragonfly replied to vale's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
Happy Birthday, the colour will look great on the beach. I like it without the hoop, I think it hugs your figure really nicely especially from the back. the hoop I am told however keeps you cool because it holds the material away from your legs. You are getting married at the same resort that I got married at last summer, our children were also our wedding party. -
Welcome Louise and congratulations on your upcoming wedding.

I got married in August and hurricain Dean came roaring through the DR the second last day of our vacation, it was scary, especially since I had all of my kids with me, one who is in a wheelchair. We got through it and 4 hours later it was sunny, still and surreal that we had just been hit by a hurricain. The resorts go into lock down mode pretty quickly so that they sustain minimal damage. I say that you can't really worry, til there is something to worry about, and then if it happens you will figure it out:)

Poll: Guests not staying at resort

I think when planning a wedding home or away you must budget the costs to make sure your guests are actually able to attend your wedding. Can you imagine inviting people to a wedding at home and hoping you can afford to accomadate them for example like asking them to pay for their plate, or charging them a cover fee to enter your wedding venue, it would be awful. We defnitely made sure that in case people stayed somewhere ese we would pay for them to actually attend our wedding considering they had spent thousands to actually get to our location, and I would assume if they were staying elsewhere, like Rachel said, then chances are they couldn't afford to stay on your resort, I certainly would not penalize them for that. I have strong opinions on this, I just feel that we do all sorts of things such as oot bags to make our guests feel welcomed, and then to do such an unwelcoming thing as charge a covercharge for your wedding seems kind of crazy to me, again just the opinion of someone in your big picture who really doesn't matter:) Oh I would however be careful of paaying for some guests passes and not others, it will always get out and then you will have people upset and hurt wondering why they didn't measure up. I think you should pay for all or none. -

Everton also had ton's of family living in Jamaica and we knew our dream of a small intimate wedding would be gone if we chose Jamica as our destination, it would have been like decideing to marry here we would have felt obligated to invite aunts, uncles cousins, ect or our moms would have been upset. We also understood that we would be responsible for the extra fee's associated with inviting people who were off resort. There has been other threads on this exact issue and people are usually pretty split on their feelings. I still believe that yes you should be responsible for your guests coming on the resort, you have invited them to a wedding, not to a hotel therefore you must absorb the costs of that. We do not get invited to at home weddings and then get charged a fee for actually coming to the wedding, people would be insulted if that were to happen. I aslo don't feel we can stipulate where people must stay for our convenience. Once again you have invited them to "your wedding" not to "your vacation' therefore I say pick up the tab for your guests to actually be allowed to be at your wedding, jmho.
