Joyce gave some great information, the Mayan ceremony incorporates rituals and mythology specific to the Maya heritage while the cosmic or spiritual ceremonies are more "universal", calling to nature and the universe to bless the union. Hola Lianaflower! Most of the time, the dresses are not "trashed" at all! We prefer to say "rinsed". The water in the cenotes is crystal clear and clean, often the dresses come out better than they went in. Wedding days sometimes lead to the hems of dresses getting dirty from walking around and we find the water cleans them right up. Most hotels will have dress cleaning services to have them cleaned and pressed properly afterwards. You won't even know it was "trashed".
