Ben Chrisman was a guest at my wedding... he just was a guest with a camera and shot images while he enjoyed the party of the day... we were very lucky to have him and the other dozen pro photogs there thanks for the comments, we do feel like we are on cloud nine together sometimes! We just started YOGA together too, what exciting times! mateo
  2. thanks for the nice thoughts I really found a dream catch! Sol Tamargo is a woman that only comes around once in a lifetime! I'm continuously blown away by her wisdom and natural beauty. Being her groom on our wedding day was the most amazing gift a man could ever ask for. To be surrounded by some of the most amazing photographers in the country, with every moment documented, fun times with amigos, awesome video, sheesh, we really feel like some of the luckiest people ever! We continue to send a huge thank you to ALL who helped us make this day happen! Please keep an eye out for Sol's review! Cheers, Mateo
  3. Yes, grandma was able to tour the ENTIRE 100+ acres of the Coba grounds, all on a bicycle taxi. When I say bicycle taxi, imagine a driver and a front that is made with 2 wheels and a soft cushion, perfect for grandmas. We even brought a pillow for her tush and it was the best! To hear her say "i read about this pyarmid in national geographic, i never imagined in my lifetime that I could actually see it, wow, its really amazing".... wow, I just broke down. The fun thing is that you can get a guide to tell you about it, and he talks for 10 minutes then you rent bikes with your friends, SO MUCH FUN, and go for the tour. The grounds will take you 1.5 hrs to go through, even on a bike. The Coba ruins are the largest in the Yucatan. You can even climb them, another awesome experience. Tulum is nice, its on the ocean.... but I was BLOWN away by Coba. She did go to a cenote, you may want to try Cenote Carwash (on way back from Coba) as i think it is flat enough for her. We went to Grand Cenote with friends and family, just to chill and there was a covered pavilion where she ended up sitting. After that, she went home in her car with her daughter while the others went to the beach! With this day tour, you can get a lot in, grandma friendly. good luck!
  4. famous shamous bla bla... Thanks for the kind words and the rockstar video! Wow, we really did have a ball eh? I'm glad I took 15 dance lessons! props to the photographers who made awesome pics! thanks for everything! SOL is in charge of posting a review of our day with photos and links to the vendors that we used... Its coming slowly, but I promise, it will be here. She also made a slideshow with 300 photos with her favorites from many of our photog buddies coming soon! Cheers & MUCH LOVE mateo
  5. We used a service out of playa del carmen to charter a trip to Coba Ruins, very highly recommended by us vs. Tulum. My 90 year old grandmother red about the ruins in National Geograpic and there are bicycle taxi's that can cart older folks or anyone who wants the tour in luxury... your friends and fam can rent bikes for 20 pesos.. LOADS of fun! here is the info on the van tour: Transportation: Sinal Tours, an outstanding service and really the best prices around, the contact person is Jorge and this is his email: [email protected] The whole day, 8am-6pm, 11 people in the van, Coba ruins, cenote, tulum beach tour! $160 + tip cheers, mateo

  7. Also, just to be aware, photographers change their rates as time goes on due to availability, season, traveling, etc. Its always best to contact the photographers studio directly for information. This forum post is great, but in a few months, Its old news... Just an FYI to contact your photographer directly! Cheers, mateo
  8. We trusted Paul Schrank at Playa Weddings - Videography in Playa del Carmen and the Riviera Maya to produce the video at our wedding. Here is a peek at our first dance: Sol & Matt's First Dance on Vimeo Paul lives in Playa del Carmen = NO travel fees! Paul offers delivery in HD and doesnt overload himself during the wedding season so he can truly dedicate a high end product to you. He also uses lapel mics. MANY MANY videographers use on camera mics which pick up wind and ambient noise, robbing you of a beautiful video. Do you have a widescreen TV / plasma at home? Ask your videographer if they shoot in 4:5 format or 16:9 format. If you do have widescreen and your videographer shoots in 4:5 format, then you will look like a CLOWN on your widescreen as the format will stretch your 4:5 video picture to make it 16:9. NOBODY wants that, eh? Make sense? There are LOTSA questions to ask videographers... Good luck! mateo remember: paul schrank = quality product.

  10. We spent 2 days with amigos hanging out with adventures. We recommend a day trip to Isla Mujeres. We also recommend a day trip to Coba Ruins (my 89 year old grandma was able to hang with us, a group of 30 friends and family). Bike taxi's! We shot tons of photos at Coba. Pro photos aren't really allowed at any ruin. EXCEPT, small ruins in playa del carmen. We also hit a cenote after the ruin and then the beaches at Tulum! del Sol Wedding Website to see our personal wedding website that showcases our tour schedule for our guests! Cheers! matt

The photos are decent but we really wanted a more artistic approach and it was very important for us to have photos of our cocktail reception and private dinner event. Yes, Karisma resorts are asking for a $500 fee (you may be able to book 1 night) for our studios, but we completely agree with you that these fees are crapola, because it they can't seem to offer a service that is exceptional, just sub par. Here are a few Local talent photogs I recommend: Elizabeth Medina D-Eyed Claudia (be very specific you know who is shooting when / if you commission her) I know there are others, but these I can confirm will deliver! 12. WHEW, that was an amazing time! Thanks everybody for the kind words, we are just getting back on our feet and catching up to 1 zillion jobs and client requests... (we had 20 weddings from Nov 1 - Dec 15)... In time, we will post a full review on the services and vendors from our special day! Sergio, thank you for your photos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cheers & blessings to everyone through the holiday season! mateo
  13. Bree, I'm sorry this happened. As you know, we have had problems with EDR and the fact that they seem to think its ok to practice shady business ethics. Personally, I can't imagine what my clients (you included because you are my client) would say if I sent them an email stating "Hi Bree, we decided to change our contract because wedding photography is tougher than we thought, so there will be added fees to continue to use our services) bla bla bla. I have spoken to everybody under the sun at Lomas, Headquarters at Karisma, and all the wedding coordinators at Karisma's headquarters. The Owner of Karisma himself may or may not know about the hotel sending out email's to ask all their clients to sign another contract, but I'm guessing he initated this because my impression of them is all they care about is $$$$. Green talks in their eyes. I don't blame them, in big corporate world, money talks and b-sh!t walks but in the hospitality world, I assumed the process of thinking would be completely different... oh well, never make assumptions! I'm embarrassed for them, Matt

We are very excited to give these away, I was a little blown away by them, original for sure! Cheers & thanks for the nice words Mateo

If not, we just have to cough up the $300 so we can have the photographer we want. I didn't mean to hijack, but all these fees get me fired up! My main problem is that the guests don't need to stay 3 nights. Also, the photographers that they offer are charging 500 for top packages, and after reviewing their portfolio, I don't actually classify the work being delivered as even medium quality. 3 nights stay in one of these resorts at $250 per person... good luck though with your endeavors to get the better rate, you deserve it, I'm sure! Cheers, M
  16. I just wanted to follow up to this post so the awareness is still fresh on folks minds. In the Riviera Maya, there is this franchise giant named Karisma. They own 5 hotels opening 2 more soon. They host thousands and thousands of weddings annually. We have been trying to talk to them about their fee policy and all they care about is $$. Our studio had an inquiry today, with the response from the bride: Now, here is a slight problem we have been running into with the Azul (Fabio is the person I'm now working with, I think he is in the States). I have asked to bring in a photographer, they told me I could not unless i paid for a 3 night stay!!! Obviously, you have worked there and I have friends who are also getting married at the Azul right before us and guess what? you or your wife are shooting their wedding. I know my friends did not have to pay a crazy amount to the hotel to bring you guys there. So, any suggestions? Sorry to put this on you... Previously, Azul actually worked for us... not anymore. My advice to this bride is to state the obvious. We are actually acting as a referral tool for this Hotel, shouldnt there be some sort of deal? NOPE, $ talks. Just FYI Matt PS, we have had tons and tons of requests for Karisma Hotels since the original posting of this thread. They are hardcore about this fee / 3 night thing....
  17. Ok, so being a vendor here on this forum is one thing... but Sol & I are also bride and groom to be, so its been interesting hanging out here in this forum world, learning about your experiences and also being able to contribute what we can... We have been working like FREAKS lately, and I just noticed that our wedding is approaching! Holy crap, it was 1 month from Nov 6! WOW, that blows my mind. I just wanted to send a shout out to all that read this forum and let everybody know that time flies when you are having fun. If you are planning a wedding, enjoy these days. Even though they are stress filled and sometimes, the anxiety can choke you, remember that these are some of the best times of our lives! So this is just a little shout out so I can wake up and smile that our special day is coming soon! Sol & I have been taking salsa lessons so I can shake the booty on the dance floor... Its been some work, but i'm actually taking lessons with a professional female dancer, now that Sol is gone... its been rather exciting! You will see the video of us getting down on the dance floor latin style!! Oh....we have hired this wedding designer that is going to pimp out our location, cant wait to show you pics of this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sol Is in Playa del Carmen right now doing insane amounts of planning and research, bringing together loose ends. After this entire experience, I take my hat off to all the brides who do ALL the planning over the internet and hardly visit the site prior to the wedding, you are all CHAMPS. PS: I almost forgot. Big congrats to BDWF Member and our good friend, Paul Shrank from Playa Weddings Videography. He got engaged very recently and will be getting married in May 2008 in the Riviera Maya! Paul is one of our good friends and we are very excited for him and Rachael (also a videographer) Paul & Rachel are doing our videography, we are SO stoked! Cheers & much love, Matt y Sol

Most of our clients actually wear their dress at home for a reception. Like you said, sand and water. Wine laden dance floors damage dresses worse...
