Help with venues, coordinators for destination wedding!
Matt Adcock replied to Buggle's topic in Newbies!!
Well muchas gracias!!!! If you haven't already, send an inquiry to us using our contact form. Our studio manager Melissa is CHOCK FULL of info about where to plan your wedding. We literally spend thousands of hours writing emails providing links, suggestions, and just about anything you need to know about this place in regards to planning your big day. In order to better help you figure out what you are looking for, it would help us to know approximate guest count, location preferences in the Riviera Maya, and a few other details.... Melissa will hook you up! HOLLA Soon amiga, if you haven't already! MUCHO saludos and welcome to BDWF! PS... Le Reve is amazing (I really dig the photos on their website) shameless self promotion Perhaps, you should send them an inquiry and see if there may be an exception to the kid rule if you book "most of the place" vs every single room! Cheers, mateo PSS... I really love this place. This one too this one provides super indulgence as well... -

HOLA Amigas and Amigos of BDW! We recently shot a wedding at an amazing little spot and wanted to spread a little buzz.... Tulum is such a magical spot to get married and its time that the cabanas that exist there get some face time awareness on BDW. Anyway, please check out this awesome little spot. We think tulum is a dream.... there are SO many little spots tucked away here that haven't been reviewed / discussed / discovered by BDW... We are going to change that! These photos from BDW user ChillBride. Check out Natalie's wedding slideshow from the amazing Sol Tamargo Here as well as her review on del sol here. http://cabanaslaluna.com/ some text from their website: We had this dream... What if you could wash ashore on a beautiful tropical island with a group of friends and you would build yourself a cozy little settlement of colourful decorated, wooden houses right there on the beach? What if a local Mama would prepare lunches and dinners with local ingredients fresh from the sea and the gardens, serving it in the little village square? What if you could create your own electricity and water supply and be completely self-sufficient? Wouldn't that be a fairy tale come true? We thought so, so we bought a piece of beautiful beach land in Tulum (Mexico) and created our dream. It is the dream we want to share with you. Our own little magical island of authenticity: La Luna. La Luna is build like a tiny little village. Private, elegant, warm and friendly with a nice central gathering place where you can enjoy our local fresh dishes with our other guests. Also from their website: Restaurant: Our new restaurant; Las Estrellas. We will be blending European skills and recipes with fresh, local ingredients. Our specialties will be fish and vegetables, but of course there will be plenty more. We have the ability to do all that your palette could possibly desire. Our bread will be made fresh daily, and we will offer light lunches and healthy drinks throughout the day. In the mood for a mojito, beer or margarita? No problem! We will have all of that too. To keep in theme with the atmosphere that is La Luna, our restaurant will be quaint and intimate so that we can provide nothing but the best service to all of our customers. We look forward to serving you in the future. Creditcards are accepted in the restaurant. Download our menu here (PDF) Come to magical La Luna and enjoy a fairy tale come true! contact info: Carr. Tulum - Boca Paila km. 6.5 | Quintana Roo Tulum 77789, Mexico Phone: +1 818 631 9824 (USA) for reservations (9am CST until 6pm CST) Alternative numbers: +1 310 984 5484 or +52 1 984 116 1208 (the hotel directly, Mexico) for urgent matters only. E-mail: [email protected] Here you can download a map and driving directions from Cancun Airport as a PDF file. Anybody have any experience here? Love this spot! Cheers! matt

Yeah, a little extra sleep.... The biggest problem we see is brides who plan their wedding start time on Oct 31-Nov 7 PAST the scheduled sunset time and end up with a dark dark ceremony. We always recommend starting at least 1 hr before the scheduled sunset. What is sad, hotels (usually the all inclusive hotels) will not necessarily advise their clients of this because they are filling beds and find they loose a time slot after the time change because brides want sunset... imagine that

FYI Reminder to brides and folks coming to the Riviera Maya... Mexico does not observe the extended daylight savings that the USA does. Daylight Saving Time in Mexico begins at 2:00 a.m. local time on the first Sunday in April. On the last Sunday in October areas on Daylight Saving Time fall back to Standard Time at 2:00 a.m. The names in each time zone change along with Daylight Saving Time. Central Standard Time (CST) becomes Central Daylight Time (CDT), and so forth. The state of Sonora does not observe Daylight Saving Time. Check out our Seasonal Guide for more info on planning the perfect ceremony start time! matt

Your fiance is right. Do it elsewhere. Stick with the evening time! Quick FYI about that photograph. They photo is lit using a big flash, in order to balance the light inside vs outside. I talked about gazebo light in this thread, same principal applies here. In a way, this is false advertising. Commercial photos, one big flash, balanced light inside and out. During a wedding, a big big big flash for every photograph is not practical. In fact, I never ever in a zillion years use a flash during a ceremony, just too obtrusive. Just a 2 cents worth....

We have had a LOTS of experience working with Denise Courtney, former coordinator at Ceiba Del Mar, and LONG LONG LONG time wedding professional in the RM area. 1 thing gals. Denise knows her stuff. She puts my know it all smarty pants butt to shame....seriously, this gal has the hook up. One thing I really like about their business model is that they have a working relationship with TONS of vendors. They way they approach working with vendors is by setting a relationship with a contract that outlines how they will work between each other in regards to rates, commissions, deals, etc. They get bulk pricing rates to offer their clients and therefor are able to offer super better deals on hotels / tours / packages. Tropical Wedding Experts is a new section of Tropical Incentives... This company has been an industry leader in Cancun for a long long time, so they have lots of relationships setup. What impressed me the most about this company is that they have a killer database of vendors. Denise knows her stuff and based on their extensive questionnaire, they evaluate and know immediately what to offer you in terms of meeting your expectations. In 2 seconds, she can cross reference their massive database of vendors and supply you with countless PDF's of different vendors and what they offer, etc. They provide a full service experience. I think this one is going to be a winner and am excited to work with her! We are BTW, a full on certified preferred vendor with TWE.... So we shall see how things go! Good luck! matt

Elizabeth is right... If the storm passes and is a few hundred miles away, then its all golden (in terms of the wrath).... wind and rain won't crush a wedding day... Remember, rain + wedding photography = super unique and outside the box. No matter what, your love story together is will be the big headlines We still live here during hurricane season, so obviously we are up for the risk

I'm not trying to throw fear factor... I'm honestly preaching reality here... This climate zone is friggen unpredictable but its always nice to hope for the best! Senorita Diamondgirl, Hurricane season is FULL ON in October... May I remind you that one of cancun's worst hurricanes in recorded history was Hurrican Wilma, Oct 19. Last November, Hurricane IDA made its way to the Yucatan on Nov 7-9. del Sol had 2 weddings, one on Isla Mujeres... that was interesting because the port was closed so all her cancun guests had to make sure they were on the island because there was no getting back and forth.. Sol actually left one day early to get there...You can read all about Sol's experience on the blog. http://delsolphotography.com/blog/post-509/110809-Bianca-Robert-Wedding-at-Villa-Vista-de-la-Luz-Isla-Mujeres-Photos-by-Sol I had a wedding on the same day... our clients were getting ready in private houses, both of which had power out so they had to rearrange plans, then they had to cancel where the ceremony / reception was to be because of full on sideways rain and wind... moved to this tiny restaurant in playa del carmen, Negrosal... Beautifully documented here: (remember, Nov 7) http://delsolphotography.com/blog/post-513/110709-Jason-Monica-Photos-by-Matt-Adcock I took this snap of my laptop before I headed to the wedding... by this time, IDA was downgraded to a tropical storm... Don't be blinded by the light here... I'm all for being positive and wishful thinking... but once you live the truth....

WORD! I know I've been to more june / july / august weddings in the RM than ALL of you crazy cats... by far, weddings in June, July and August are the hottest and toughest to push through. From a working standpoint, its crazy crazy hot. If it weren't for the breeze we wouldnt make it. Seriously, do you know what 90 degrees plus near 100% humidity feel like? its insane. What blows me away is when we show up to a wedding and they guys are wearing coats... ReALLY? If you must plan in July or August, make sure your start your ceremony after 6pm...these months have the longest days, plenty of sunlight. Another thing to avoid... resorts that force you to have a mid day ceremony on the beach. If this is a must, be sure they have a ambulance on standby for guests with heat stroke... also, plenty of fans, umbrellas, or some shading device good luck mateo

not legal.... more of a spiritual ceremony. This wedding is a Cosmic Ceremony http://delsolphotography.com/blog/content/galleries/?gal=298 If you are interested in a legal wedding, you can actually have the hotel arrange for you to sign the papers separately. You can do this by having an actual ceremony OR a private thing sitting at a desk... We have experienced this before! I prefer the Cosmic. We actually had a mayan ceremony on our wedding day: http://www.delsolphotography.com/adventures/laboda We got married on paper at the courthouse in the USA... then our ceremony was nothing more than symbolic. No blood tests, no early arrivals, and most importantly, we didnt have to arrange our schedule around the judge's availability. This is what happens to so many of our brides... The cosmic actually enlists your guests to participate. They use the 4 cardinal directions and do blessings to the gods of those directions (i'm speaking as a laymen here)... This 4 cardinal direction blessing is very similiar to the Mayan Ceremony. WAY more spectacle in the Cosmic ceremony. One thing is FOR SURE.... I've won many international photojournalism awards with images that came from Cosmic / Mayan because they are so so so unique, outside the box, wow factor goes up 1000% percent. We photogs call it "EYE CANDY"... My vote for cosmic is IN! good luck ladies! mateo

Congrats! welcome to the forum! Moon Palace = wedding factory. Dreams not as much... NOW / JADE coolio too. Pros... there are several dreams and Now's... Cons.... Moon palace is a wedding factory and not as intimate... i dunno, something about seeing 4 or 5 brides on the same day you get married that makes it not click for me...hey, but that is my opinion and you know what they say about opinions.... ha ha ha.. Do some more research here, ask questions and don't officially turn off other suggestions.... Lots to choose from in the Riviera Maya. Personally, the more boutique resorts will likely give you more satisfaction! I like: Ceiba del mar Le Reve Al Cielo small place but....your guests can stay in so many places... good luck matt

Chinese Paper Lantern Questions??
Matt Adcock replied to avramnanan's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
Sara...do they actually put out any light though? Our experience is that most "LED" type lights will barely put out any light at all..If the ambient lights are somewhat strong, then the lanterns will not pop... Test. Try one, use your camera (turn off your flash). hang the lantern, light a few candles in the room, put the camera on a table and aim at the lantern... see what happens. Are they brightly lit compared to the background light? sounds crazy, just my idea of testing it.. -
Well, researching resorts in the Riviera Maya and reading brides reviews was NEVER this easy.... http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/wiki/del-sol-photography-slideshows-riviera-maya Figure out a few things. 1. Kids, are they coming? 2. Remember that AI (all inclusive) "may" mean less private 3. Mexico has a piece of happiness for everbody 4. Check out the Dreams chains... 150 guests, wowser. Are you sure they haven't been watching CNN or FOX news? Most of them are likely to be so scared of the drug lords they might not want to come... JK,... hope you can detect sarcasm in my voice here... but I do think your guest count seems high... We have covered thousands of weddings and less than 5 % had that many folks here... good luck planning PS... consider a cosmic ceremony to change things up a little... wanna see an example of that: http://delsolphotography.com/blog/post-726/Tal-Terence-Maroma-Spa-Resort-Photos-by-Matt-Adcock saludos

Sol actually just shot a wedding at the Royal.. They didnt use the gazebo for the ceremony but they DID use the gazebo for a Mayan Rutiual performance.... Totally cool and interesting way to use the gazebo. OH, Sol & I had the SAME kind of ritual performed as we walked down the isle... Our guests were like WHAT THE HAY IS HAPPENING HERE!!! WOWWWW.  Anyways, worth a look:    You can check out this wedding slideshow HERE: http://delsolphotography.com/blog/content/galleries/?gal=269  You can read Valerie's Review of the Royal HERE on the BDWF..  Good luck  matt

Hola Ladies...  Just FYI, del Sol has been hard at work lately to work on accommodating a wider spectrum of clients. From the del Sol side, we have been shooting like 150 events per year, which is pure insanity for the 3 of us.. Lower pricing for del sol would equal 300 shoots or more...ouch, cant handle that. SO, we have recently expanded our team and created our sister studio, La Luna Photographers. Primary goal: Offer alternative pricing solutions and same awesome customer service that del Sol has been known for. Anyways, have a gander Let us know if there is anything we can help you with! Saludos, matt
